Thread: Gondor after isildur?

Bottom of Page    Message Board > The History of > Gondor after isildur?
Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what was going on in Gondor between the death of Isildur and the start of the Stewardship????

If you know where to point me, great!

thanks in advance, appreciated!
There is mention of this in the Silmarillion - Of The Rings of Power and The Third Age but not a lot of detail.
Appendix A in LOTR and Appendix B (The Tale of Years) have a lot of information. All JRRT fans are required to read the appendices!
I realize how my previous thread dates me. Having read LOTR many years before The Simarillien. was published, I consumed the appendices, and damned near had them memorized. There's a lot of stuff in them that is not anywhere else, and it is all magnificently (if somewhat donnishly)written. Remember, at the time, JRRT thought they would be the only chance he would have to explian some of the history of Middle Earth. They were conceived of by Raynor Unwin,as a substitute for the The Sil., which no one thought would ever see the light of day.

Read RotK, Appendix A, Section titled Gondor and the Heirs of Anarion. Also use RotK, Appendix B from T.A. 2-T.A. 2050 to get various points along the timeline.

There is also a few pages in Unfinished Tales Part 3, Section II(i) at the beginning of 'The Northmen and the Wainriders'.

I hope this will fill some of the gap for you.
I'm so glad I found this thread. I"ll be looking in UT and the Appendices too. After homework tonight.
Angel Smilie Elf Winking Smilie My favourite rulers of Gondor is Hyarmendaical and Earnil and Earnur. For Hyarmendaical was so powerful yet wise. In his day Gondor was at its height. Earnil and Eanur are also my Favourites because they fought in Major battles namely those of the Camp and Fornost. Animated Wink Smilie Big Smile Smilie
