I was so surprised to even see Haldir in TTT...he had only a two second scene in The Fellowship but in the extended edition we did see him for several extra minutes. When I saw him in TTT I thought it was a good change making his death tragic...overall i think it worked out great in the movie.
I thought that it was a bit sad that as Haldir died, he looked around and saw all the Elves that died and that could have 'lived forever'. 
Yeah, Haldir's death was tragic because in the movie he was fighting to protect Rohan, a kingdom of Men and not his own kind. I thought the other elves' deaths were quite sad also.
Maybe Peter Jackson created Haldir's death to allow the sons of Elrond appearing in RotK.

I certainly hope so, Naira. 
I think Haldir's death was put there because PJ wanted a good death scene like Boromir's but there were no characters other than him ready for the chop in TT. All the other main characters in the book (with the exception of Frodo) survive the TT ready to die in RotK.
And as has already been said, by killing Haldir the way he did, the viewer was better able to see the tragic end of so many wonderful elves whose choice was to be there, even though it was a great sacrifice.

Haldirs death was tragic and heroic. I really felt sad that not a single elf survies the whole battle apart from Legolas.
But you don't know for sure that they all died 
I think PJ effectively used Haldir's death as a cinematic device to illustrate the tragedy of war. He needed a heart-breaking death of an identified character to set off the whole slow motion scene.
The death of all those elves is even more sad when seen from Haldir's perspective.

Yes, I too was deeply saddened when Haldir died. But something had to happen. But I did like the part when Legolas went down the stairs on the sheild. That was cool. But I still am very sad.

We have seen Aragorn wielding the reforged 'Narsil', now renamed 'Anduril', in some of the screenshots that have been released, either by accident or on purpose, their release, that is.
He will recieve the reforged sword (I've posted this before, but hey), PJ has said so himself. But I don't know who is going to give it to him or when, he didn't say anything about that.

So you're all upset about Haldir getting bumped off here yeah? When he doesn't actually do anything else in the book anyway. SO what about Hama hey? He should go on to fight at Helm's Deep (in the sortie with Aragorn and Eomer and Gimli) and I think he gets a few good stabs in at the Pelennor field as well. NOT get eaten by a Warg on his way to the Deep. But do any of you care? No, cos he doesn't get a big dramatic slow-mo death scene, shame on you...
Did anyone else notice that Gamling the Old.....wasn't old at all? In fact he was kind of young. How hard is it to grab an old fella and strap him to a horse?
I SO totally agree. Haldir has always been one of my favorite character ever since i picked up FOTR and read it on the way to and from school. He was one of those characters who i couldn't wait to see. I loved the extended cameo of Haldir in the FORT the Special Edition. He was sooo cool. However, i was most troubles to watch his death in the movie, especially when he is never even mentioned in the book. From what i hear(though this may not be true) he dies anyway in the third book. I think PJ did well in knocking him off in TTT so that the sadness from the ROTK wouldn't be as bad as it would if PJ waited to kill Haldir. Anyone agree?
As you might have gathered from elsewhere on this site, I don't agree with anything PJ does to change the original LOTR story.
I found Haldir's death to be quite dramatic and moving. The way his head lolls back on to Aragorn's shoulder, his eyes wide. It would have been a nice touch to see stars reflected in his eyes but I guess that wouldn't have worked since it was raining! But I get it anyway.

Yes, I agree that eternity can be a curse and I hated to have seen Haldir's death too, and you are most probably right too, about his death showing the horrors of war. And I felt so sick when he died too, not so much as I am a purist(not that hardcore anyways ) as I hate seeing deaths on screen...yeah sure call me a softie...but from another perspective, the death may be used to illustrate the involvement of elves too and not as a spectator or cowards. Maybe his death was to show that elves "die" too and that makes them on equal footing as men...and maybe it is to show that men are almost as strong as the elves or maybe stronger...

And it was really annoying cause I had stayed out of the two towers section so that wouldn't happen, but I saw it on the list of recent postBodys..

As one who read the books decades before viewing the films, I wished to know all the differences prior to seeing the movies, so that I didn't waste watching time, being up-in-arms over some major or minor change that PJ made, and thus missing part of the movie that followed. Knowing this afore hand I could get my indignation over with by the time I finally got to see the movie and thus I could enjoy film for the story it did tell, rather than the story in the book that was not told.I agree with Aul’!

For the new people who haven't yet read the RotK, I suppose we moderators could be more vigilant in the future, to see that new threads about the actual movie by people who have seen it were labeled with *MOVIE SPOILER*, if you wish. Still, it seems hard to believe that anyone who has seen the first two movies or read the first two volumes could wait a full year before reading the third and final volume.
Anyway,adding the spoiler notation to the titles won't really dampen our discussion, and will serve the needs of a small minority of our members.
The Council will take it under consideration.

Yeah, I thought Hama was a really cool character so I felt bad that he didn't get his proper death scene as well.
But I thought Haldir's death scene was one of the best parts of the movie even though it made me cry, (you know what I mean?).

The movies are what blew his character out of proportion and then PJ had the audacity to kill him off, bad form as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you! It doesn't bug me to see the title now. It is harmless. It hurt my experience of the movie (ever so slightly) but now it has been neutered and can not hurt anybody again. You made an insane girl very happy, Grondy! I removed "Death" from the thread's title.

Well about Haldir....I never really paid any real attention to him when reading the books.....He didn’t seem to be so important....oh well Haldir Namari’! M’r l’me!
