Now let's see if this tread will be allowed to live. I understand if the Council takes it away.

Well I have to tell you that when I arrived here few months ago, I really really loved both films of PJ (don't worry, I still liked the books more... Cool Smilie ), but I actually changed my mind when reading all those postBodys about saying that the film misses some caracters , the film invents deaths (...) so I actually changed my mind and now I think it's a good film (I can't change THAT much...) but that it's really 'hockey pucks' compared to JRRT...

Maybe because of Aule , Vir and Ross's postBodys Wink Smilie ...I'mstarting to think that they may be right... Smile Smilie

Virumor:

Nice to see someone is finally able to look through the 'hockey pucks' of the movies. Thumbs up for Florian.

Woo hoo one slightly converted punter!

Pff.. Everone who can think for themselves and has read the books can see the changes PJ has done. I've still not seen anyone claim the movies are better than the books (if someone has, please correct me). What has been said is that people like/love the movies but wish they where more like the book.

IMHO the only affect the I-hate-PJ club seems to have is to make PT a place of wining and complaining of changes in the movies instead of the celebrating the world Tolkien made, as this site is mainly for. Everybody else seem to be capable of seeing both negative and positive sides of the movie and discuss it in a polite and family friendly way.

I do have great fun making fun of the changes and worry about what's been changed in ROTK while chatting with Virumor, but that is not becuase they have "converted" me. I saw these things long befor Ross came (and befor his Club memebers joined) and I have always liked to make fun of mistakes I see in movies. Celebrian and I went to see "Deep blue sea" simply becuase we had hear it was bad, and we laughed from begining to end, mocking it. (How the others must have hated us. Wink Smilie )

It seems to me the Wining Club doesn't "convert" anybody, everybody agrees to some extent in what they are saying. The one who shout the loudest is the one who gets heard. And the more they shout, the more those thoughts about the movies are connected to them. So eventually people will think that the ideas they have come from The Club and not from their own head.

Of course it is easier to express the negative feelings you have for the movies when you can agree on something a person has said befor you, than it is to be the first to express it. But it seems the Club is overdoing this making it easier to be negative towards them instead of towards PJs changes.

Thats right Amarie.
(cldn't quote ur whole post. it is 2 long!)

I agree with u. But yes "conversion" is not the correct term. And I m eveready to defend the movies. i find they are good. If a few of the stuff was invented, so what? U try making a LOTR movie faithful to the book from back to front and then also not make it 10hrs. long. ( I m talking to the PJ haters here) U obviously wld have failed. (U can prove me wrong though).

I feel there is no other way to make the movie than to invent a few stuff and see to it that the story is in a free flow for the ppl new to Tolkien. As for deaths, I believe they were solely to extract sympathy and to show the dangerous nature of war.( Even in the RotK trailer there is sch a scene with Gandalf walking between the bodies)

I do like the movies a lot. I will not be "converted" no matter what. But still the book is always better. Smile Smilie

Hockey pucks?? But that's not what I said ama Wink Smilie , but that's ok... Thanx to ross and vir for the "thumbs up"... Big Smile Smilie
I am here to defend Deep Blue Sea, you people are always slagging it off, it can't be exactly like the trailer was, despite the trailer being a classic. You should just accept the changes and enjoy what was basically a fantastic movie, it had Samuel L losing his head for chrissakes! And LL cool J was just great.

ha ha
Lol,Deep Blue Sea was horrid Tongue Smilie

Trailer? Classic? Changes?
I didn't know that film until someone said it was really, really bad! So I accept the changes even though I didn't know about them, but I still don't like the film Happy Elf Smilie

Allright Amari’ I’ll explain a stupid demented old wench’s thought about J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece....(I don’t have this in quote yet so bare with me) She said that she had seen in an airport the magnificient books and was angered because she thought it was an abomination to take such a great director like PJ’s(yeah right....great director my ***) script and idea and turned it into a book just to earn money of PJ’s back with a lousy book...
And this was in a Swedish newspaper....

This demented poor schmuck has gotten it all wrong....PJ made a horrible mockery of Tolkien’s masterpiece just to make money on Tolkien’s back.......So Angry Smilie
So Angry Smilie
So Angry Smilie
So Angry Smilie
So Angry Smilie
So have I proven you wrong Amari’? Are you not upset with this? Any Tolkien fan must be angered by this statement, PJ lover or not....this is a real offence towards J.R.R.

So our work is LONG from over mates....yes I am talking to you my brethren, Ross and Virumor.....our labour has just begun.....

Let the apocalypse take it’s beginning!!
Fire shall wreak havoc in M-E!!!!
Aul’.. I am really sad about the woman who thought the movies came before the books did. But instead of being angry with her, or with all of the others who have seen the movies but not read the books, try to talk to them. Try to educate them by telling them that there is a wonderful world to explore there, if they would only open their eyes and see it. And if you can't do that, then just sigh, shake your head and turn your back to it. I mean, it's only plain ignorance.

And don't you think she feels pretty stupid when she found out that the books were written long before the moves were even thought of? Why add to her misery now? She's just embarrased herself to people more educated on the subject over the entire country, I think it's bad enough for her as it is.

About the "I hate PJ-Club", I can only say that I personally don't get disturbed by it, but I can still understand Amari’ and agree on the fact that it get's a bit naggy sometimes and sometimes the clubmembers (no names) can sound like a broken record.

Personally I've gotta say: I loved the movies when I first
saw them. Then I started thinking. Then I added other people's opinions on those thoughts. It ended with me being disappointed on the movies from the Tolkienite side of view, but I could still appreciate them for being movies, you know, like you can appreciate X-Files for the special effects, and stuff like that.

I've been trying to work on this though and I've come a bit on the way, even so much that I acctually look forward to the third movie coming, even if I'm still a bit afraid of it disappointing me.

I'd really love for the movies to be like the book. That will probably never be possible though, so we have to settle for the second best, right? Right now I'd say the second best is PJ's movies. Who knows, maybe one day we can have the movies like we want them to be, exactly like we want them to be. Today we don't have that technology though and I'm just thankful that PJ started this giant lproject and atleast made a movie out of the books, which is more than anyone (Bakshi not included) has done before. Atleast I appreciate it for the amount of work that he and others has put into it, and even if they did change a lot of things and added stuff, which I really didn't like, they still did their best to make the all the scenes as good as possible, and I think that just that is worth a lot of respect. I can imagine it's not easy to impersonate the charachters of Tolkien and I would certainly not be able to do a better impersonation myself.

And really, all of you members of this exclusive club.. why don't you just stop caring about the movies and stop wasting your energy getting angry about it and start doing something good instead? Who knows, you may perhaps be the one to make a movie about the books some day and we'll see if there aren't critics much like yourselves complaining on your movies as well. I don't say critisism is bad, but please people, atleast come with constructive critisism and try to imagine yourself in PJ's clothes.

This wasn't the fault of PJ, this was caused by a No-Nothing writing about what she knew.

PJ didn't make the movies just to make money he was trying to bring Tolkien's story to life on the screen as a labor of love. Yes, he failed to get it 100 % right, but his endeavour was 87 % right, and for that I can forgive his mistakes and omissions.

So I guess you can try to ban me from this club and I'll try to bite my tongue and respect your right to pan, pot, kettle, or cauldron PJ with words. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

Well first of all I meant on this site but whatta hey. Wink Smilie I have to agree with Aire, I just feel sorry for this woman. At first I would have reacted like you and I would propbably switch between laughing like a looney and tearing the paper in shreds with my teeth. I'm sure she's gotten a lot of pepper for what she said and feels pretty stupid. At least she now knows about the books and might become a True Beliver like us.

And if she could get so fired up about protecting PJ, imagine how involved she could become in protecting Tolkien!
I don't recall signing up for the "i hate pj club". I must have been really drunk, since i am member of the wining club.

And i have never heard of deep blue sea before. I like "le grand bleu" instead. Jean Reno rules. Amen.

Le Grand Bleu???? what’s that?
Le grand blue is a fantastic movie about a man and his bounding with the sea with some splendid music!

As long as people react on it, it won't stop. THis reminds me of Plastic wen I first joined PT. I still remember I started posting here because of Plastic's negative postings about Sam. Back then there were some really hard defenders of Sam, especially Swampfaye. And of course I defende Sam as well, he is my top favourite character! The more Plastic broke him down, the more we defended him. And the more we defended him, the more PLastic reacted. I think it finally stopped when Plastic told us, he was just joking, trying to get us upset, because we all reacted so funny. Big Smile Smilie
Fine I'm starting a I butt kiss PJ thread! Big Laugh Smilie
OK, we will stop, but only when the movies are banned and erased out of each one's memory (and also, when PJ is locked up in Voyager 3 and sent to Proxima Centauri). And yes, we will use lobotomies in our mission when there is no other choice. Mr Machiavelli would be proud.

I LOVE THE LOTR MOVIES!!!
I LOVE THE LOTR MOVIES!!!

AND NOONE CAN CHANGE THE FACT Tongue Smilie
Can we stop this now?

I know that some love the movies and some hate them. But this is getting to be a bit much. Having a reasonable debate and giving you opnion is great but just throwing remarks back and forth is not doing anything worth while.

If it doesn't chill out people are going to start to get nasty and mean with each other, and I don't think that the opnion of a movie is worth that.
I don't know, i discovered the books years before the movies came out. I think every person who reads a lot sooner or later hears about JRRT.

I hate Sam a lot more than I hate PJ, I really, really, really hate Sam.
Whereas I first watched Bad Taste when I was 16 and have been an ardent fan of everything Mr Jackson has put out since. SO when I heard he was making the lotr movies, I was a little upset that he didn't make them into splatter-fests, that would have been cool.
"Go for the head shot Gandalf, it's the only true stopper!"
Yeh, i agree Braindead was fun. I still hope to see Gandalf do kung-fu in ROTK. I need a laugh.

Le Grand Bleu???? what’s that?

I can't believe there are still people that don't know this film!! Go Reno!! Wink Smilie
Yes but Leon is by far the best film starring Jean Reno. Big Luc Besson fan here!
Yes, Leon is the best film ever made. That's all that needs to be said.
I thought we were discussing LOTR here!!
Aragorn, just let them have their fun. Wink Smilie

Sure you do Plastic, we know, we know. Tongue Smilie
Amazing this still works! Very Big Grin Smilie

Now, sorry Aragorn, just one more thing about Jean Reno: Le Grand Bleu and Leon are great, but Les Visiteurs is hilarious!

Still hating Sam, and wanting to say Yes, to Les Visiteurs being a great movie. Did you see the sucky remake? It sucked, but I can't remember what they called it as i've wiped it from my memory.
True Plastic, Hollywood already destroyed a whole lot of fine French movies. And German movies. And Italian movies. Heh, well you get my point.
I have no idea why they are trying to remake good European movies. I have seen two remakes of French movies which were particularly bad. One about a teenager girl on a holiday with her father (Gerard Depardieu), making believe everybody that he was her lover and not her father. It was hilarious in the real French version and horrible in the American version, in spite of the fact that in both movies Depardieu played the father. The second movie was about a young boy reared in Amazonia and then coming to visit his dad in Paris/New York. The French movie was incredibly funny, the American one had perhaps a half of that charm!
Also english movies. Get Carter, the Italian Job. Which Michael Caine movie next Zulu. "Stop throwing those bloody spears at me, you f****** smuck! I'll come over there and put a cap in your @$$."
I agree, Hollywood ought to use a little more creativity and come up with some new stories; they should stop rewriting good movie scripts into flops. I doubt if there are more than a handful of second edition films that were the equals of their predecessors.

I doubt if PJ's King Kong will work any better than the last one, which I felt was inferior to the original black and white job.

The old Michael Caine Zulu was a great flick, I still choke up during the battle of the choruses.
