"Did you ever know that you're my Hero....." Wink Smilie

Oh where to start....
Lemme think, I hate a lot of stuff, and I mean A LOT (as anyone who's ever spoken to me in chat will know) can I begin with every Beatles song recorded before 1965, and most of the ones after? And then the entire collection of Queen singles? Good, that'll do to be going on with....

oh btw, Music, you might like to go check out the Top5 section down in the Green Dragon, no-one's been there in a while, so it might be buried, but I think it'd be right up your street.
hmm...what song do i really hate...Hey Ma bye Cameron and Dont mess with my Man by Nivea and Jagged edge. ugh. id rather swim with sharks.
Quote:
i really modern stuff like limpbizkit and eminem

Ahem. eminem is kool. he writes his own music[lyrics] and that is how he expresses his feelings.

Some seriously bad music folks...WTG!!!

Thanks (Squirrel) for telling me about the Top Five, I have been busy droning on about my preferences over there too.
Anything by Whitney Houston is absolute torture! Mad Smilie
And all those other nameless love songs that have been done as many times as a rerun on the Series channel, sung by people who may have been famous at one time but now we can't even remember who they are or why they were famous.

Oh and I have to add all boybands to that list!! Very Evil Smilie
You must be pretty brave there Squirrel to hate the Beatles. I would have thought you would have had more comraderie towards musicians that were named after animals.

And if I may defend American Pie? It is long and way too popular maybe...but have you ever sung it swinging bottles/mugs in a bar? Or around a campfire? That's quite a bit of fun.

Heh, someone's got to point out that they weren't actaully all that hot. And I never defend bad spelling Wink Smilie Innovators? No. Rip-off merchants? Yes. Murderers of all that was great about Rock and Roll? Certainly.
But I do like the White Album.

Yep. but only for money. And yeah, I do know all the words, and all the supposed meanings to it, Don Maclean was an evil SOB, and something of a religious zealot as well. I went right off it when I found that out.
There are so many terrible ballads that have been written, but since I don't wanna take up to much of everybodys time I'll just take some from the top of my head;

1. Celine Dion - "My heart will go on" and everything else she has ever sung.
2. Britney Spears - "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" and will never be one.
3. Anything with Mariah Carey fx "Hero"
4. Whitney Houston - Bodyguard
5.Barbara Streisand - Tell her?

I have more.acoming later Wink Smilie

[Edited on 24/2/2003 by Celebrian]
Yeah, I pretty much like all the songs you guys just trashed. Though I do believe Mariah Carey is the spawn of Satan and, surely, Britney Spears is the spawn of the spawn of Satan. And Barbara Streisand IS Satan.

Funny thing about Wind Beneath My Wings. A cousin of mine died about 10 years ago when she was 18 of congenital heart disease. Basically, everyone saw it coming, including her. She had a shoe box with objects she wanted given to particular people after she passed. Inside was a cassette tape with "For Mom" written on the label. Can you guess what was on the tape?
Let's see...I hate Houston, really REALLY hate Britney Spears. I haven't heard any of the ones previously mentioned...(yes I know, I do not listen to a lot of music). I don't have anything against American Pie, but I don't like that guys other songs. I like the Beatles though.
music, gosh maybe it would be better to talk about what you like than what you hate. addition is kinder that subtraction...but... I hate all this new country music, and all this new "pop tart" crap and basically anything new. Unless its from an old band I like. And still a lot of that's crap. If you can't rave to it, I dont like it. If you can't hear Steely Dan in it , I don't like it. If its not old jazz (NO KENNY G) or blues or closely derivative of that, I don't like it. If the guys rapping don't respect RUNDMC, I don't like it. And on and on...I feel better now Smoke Smilie

Ummm...let me guess....Wind Beneath My Wings? Tongue Smilie

Finally!! Someone else who isn't blinded by the music or their mushroom hair to notice that very obvious fact!!!

I don't know Ring...when you look at a band to decide whether they are any good, shouldn't you be somewhat blinded by the music? All that image, fanfare, etc doesn't mean squat if you aren't looking for quality songs. The Beatles probably went through a fluff stage but I can respect them because on the whole their music is substantial. And I don't know how old you are...I'm not old enough myself to look back on it personally. But from what I understand about rock music history is that the Beatles were innovative in their time. Rock music itself is not original because it was a cross between country music and blues, or a sped up version of the blues, with a lot of different input from other styles since then...but having said that, the whole idea of combining this stuff was a fresh spin on music and started a whole new way of looking at what had gone before. I think we take certain song styles and instrumentation for granted...we think we've heard it all by now. But someone had to do it first and the Beatles did their share and they have probably put a stamp of influence on a LOT of music that came after (my personal favorite is James Taylor who was the first non-Beatle signed to Apple and Paul McCartney's personal discovery and for that I am eternally grateful). Plus as songwriters, Lennon and McCartney (both alone and together) are right up there.

So...you don't have to like 'em. I'm not a Beatles freak either but whether we like them or not they deserve a certain amount of respect. To which PlasticSquirrel will probably say... Tongue Smilie pfpfpffhphtphthhttttt!
James Taylor BLECH!
Btw, did you know that a freak time travel accident sent a copy of "Vincent" by Don Maclean back to VIncent Van Gogh himself, causing him so much pain he had to cut his ear off? Wink Smilie

And nobody deserves respect, except for Elvis.
I hate that Dixie Chicks song "Landslide Down" every time that starts playing on the radio I switch channels.
I hate that song too Stonehelm. My sister has a Dixie Chicks CD so I hear that song ALL the time. I also hate Jamie O'Neal, she's a very bad Country singer whom my sister also plays ten thousand times a day. Sad Smilie
I am glad you feel the same Samwise!

Oh, and I also hate "Smooth" by Santana *shudder*
ARE YOU CRAZY???!!! Smooth is a great song, as is most stuff by Santana.
This thread shows we have a normal diversication of music lovers at Planet-Tolkien, one person's meat is another person's poison. At least we mostly agree about the Professor's books.

Okay, so diversity is the real word, but I was reaching out and just grabbed that one, which I must have made up, because it isn't in my six-inch thick dictionary. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
I hate the majority of Celine Dion songs and Enya songs. And Kelly Clarkston, she makes me wanna gag!
O and I agree with Plastic about Elvis! Elf With a Big Grin Smilie Elf With a Big Grin Smilie Elf With a Big Grin Smilie Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
I like you more with every post Andrea.
Anyone else hate Enrique Iglesias as much as my dog does?
Anything by the Spice Girls, Westlife, Boyszone, Girlsaloud, Will Young, Gareth Gates, etc.

I think I've made my point!

The only way is up! Yazz. (hrrruuhhhh)

Not that bothered about him, but I can't stand his father, My mum listens to him, but after I threatened to burn all his albums if she played them so that I heard them it soon stopped. Hum the same happened after I threatened to bury the Furbies!

Actually a bad cover of a really great song orginally sung by the inimitable Stevie Nicks. The Dixie Chicks version takes away the thing I loved the most about the song... the simplicity. The original version is just a lone acoustic guitar and Stevie's voice. The DC version has drums. DRUMS! *scoffs* Oh, and it's just "Landslide", BTW. Wink Smilie

I like this song primarily because it brought one of the most underated guitarists ever to the worlds attention again. He finally gets some of the RESPECT he deserves. Big Smile Smilie I could have done without Rob Thomas though. Big Laugh Smilie

Oh, I did misunderstand ya then, Ring...hahaha, yep they were great (Phphphtptttpttttt Plastic Squirrel) but they sure were ugly with those chili bowl haircuts.

I think Paul is kinda cute now that he is an old guy...and John was a cute hippy.

He is a very good guitarest, I was talking about the song in general.
Elton John: Candle in the wind

Did you here the version he wrote for mother Terassia when she passed?

Sandle in the bin!

What about No Doubt? Their songs are really rotten, example "Underneath It All". Mad Smilie
I WISH THAT ALL HIPHOP/RAP MUSIC HAD NOT BEEN WRITTEN!!!!

I love most Enya songs, how can anyone not like "Only Time"???? Big Smile Smilie
Quote:

But then there'd be no Run DMC, no SugarHill Gang, no Grandmaster Flash and the Furious five, and life would be muchmore empty..
Should we rename Grondy, Grondmaster Flash?

I really like Enya also, my favorite song is "Fallen Embers" (great song)

Oh well....the hiphop/rap fans may keep it....But I would be much happier if they didn’t excist! Smoke Smilie
i have just bought the coolest t-shirt: I like N*sync when they were underground!
Big Laugh Smilie

How did you mean that: The music makers, their music, or their fans? Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
Little bit of each most likely! Big Laugh Smilie
Correct Stonehelm!! There is only one kind of music: Heavy-Metal and Rock(well that makes it two right?=))
Yup that makes two! I like Rock also(but not the kind where the guy is screaming like he is going to blow out a lung!!)
Hahahahahaha Orc Smiling Smilie But do you like Iron Maiden? NOW THAT’S HQ MUSIC!!!
Grondmaster Flash.. Big Laugh Smilie

ah... I love RUN DMC!

not that this has anything to do with sappy music..
and squirrely.. if you say anything about my Chicago song from earlier, I will take your Councilship and beat you with it until you begin to sound like both Sonny AND Cher....
S'funny, I was gonna bring up Chicago.... they were alright when they were still called the Chicago Transit Authority (or whatever the hell it was) and played big fat blues music, but then they shortened the name, recorded "If you Leave me now" (Dear god but I hate that song) and should have been buried underneath a huge pile of rubble.

(See Gimli, didn't mention the song you quoted in the other thread.)
For some reason I can't stand anything by Creed, something about the lead singer's voice.

My favorite rock band is Skillet.
That's not weired I also have that problem, Whhittthhd ehhhyehss whiidddhhee hooophhheenn! I'd really like to ripe his vocal cords out!
fair enough squirrely.. I may still have to beat you though. Big Laugh Smilie as a matter of principle...

now creed I agree with.. waste of perfectily good air time on the radio.. they could have a lovely commercial instead...
I haven`t read this thread before and I know this reply is really late but here goes. Plastic you`re definately right about Elvis, I`m only 11 and I love his music, well I don`t love it , but I don`t mind it.

(10 centuries later..................................................)

Lovely comercial indeed.
Has anybody else noticed her music video's, first of all she dresses like a 18 year old Nanny Ogg, secondly she always finishes with that stupid cocked head pose, she looks a demented dog trying to bum food!

Good for You, Elvis is the one and only King of Rock and Roll, everything that came after is just imitation.

And we may have to agree to disagree here Aule.
Anyone else feel like taking a brick and smashing Avril Lavigne's head in until she stops releasing terrible records on an unsuspecting public?
It's not Avril's fault that her music is so bad... is it her fault if the people who write her music can't write at all??
I'm with you on the Avril blabla Plastic!
