I like this game, Grondy.
Perhaps we should start out easy then move on as we become more proficient. Perhaps option 1 would be a good place to start.
Thread: The Quenya Game

It all depends how good everyone's Quenya is. I personally would prefer option 3, but I don't know what oother people think.

Ok here's an easy one: Red in Quenya?
[Edited on 20/2/2003 by Ross]
[Edited on 20/2/2003 by Ross]

red = carn’
I think I agree with Peredhil, option 3 will make it more chalenging and will "force" us to study some Quenya grammar too, not just the words. But option 1 and 2 may be ok in the beginning. If we haven't started reading Fauskangers lessons yet, getting to know some words would be an ok start.
What is hr’v’ in english

hriv’ = winter
What is 'hidden' in Quenya?
What is 'hidden' in Quenya?

Hidden:Tumna (Had to think about that one)
How about Hyar in English (kind of a trick question, but easy if you know it or can find the answer)
How about Hyar in English (kind of a trick question, but easy if you know it or can find the answer)

Hyar-cleave
rasse=?
rasse=?

Hyar as a word on its own actually means plough (plow), but, when used in conjunction with other elements, can also mean cleave. (Yes, I did look that up.)
It was a trick question because everyone has heard the word for south (hyarmen) and I thought there might be some confusion.
Does Rasse mean horn? Caradhras (the mountain) being Redhorn in Sindarin.
How about knife into Quenya

Knife=sicil
Now how about a short phrase
Ni tulta i eldar
(Grondy merely highlighted the phrase.)

I know but I'll give someone else a chance this time.

Thank you for the wonderful idea(Quenya Game) Grondmaster and for the correction...

I got it!!!
To me I summon the Elves (this may be a little off in the first part, but it's close enough)
It took me a while with "ni" but i got it. Try this phrase:
Eleni laituva Isil

Is it "The moon praises the stars"?
alright i got a word in Quenya alright pella. Try that

Ough, I guess you're right,
Then, I've got a phrase: "Tintilari i Eleni"

The stars are twinkling I think, although shouldn't it be tintilar?
How about i quendi haryar i anyanta lamb’
How about i quendi haryar i anyanta lamb’

That one is hard, Is it "The elf posses the ..... bridge" I don't know.

Perwing came closest to my phrase, and it was close enough, just wrong tense.
Stars will praise the Moon
Your phrase was hard, Peredhil. I think it is:
The Elves have the greatest writing language
"yanta" was the word that threw me off, I might have translated wrong. It can mean bridge and tengwa (writing), right?
Try this: Halli Atani meril linda

Try this: Halli Atani meril linda

Antani = women's face
Linda = Beautifull
Meril = wish
Halli = No idea
Linda = Beautifull
Meril = wish
Halli = No idea

Vanyar in that sense was intended to mean beautiful, but it does have multiple meanings.
halli=tall(plural)
atani=Men
linda=beautiful
meril=desire
Would that be Tall Men desire to be beautiful? The verb "to be" being incomlete in all published writings.
try this:
Cuamin linduva yassen megrille
(Grondy changed the underline to bold. Use the "B" icon for bold, Einar.)

WoW!Too hard for me Einar...

Sorry Perwing, I just had to correct it for everone else's sake. I agree with Elda on Einar's phrase. I can only come up with:
linduva: will sing/will be beautiful
Even that is questionable because I use linda- as a verb meaning sing, but it can also be beautiful ( I always use vanya as beautiful). I am thinking it is used as a verb becuase of the ending, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I can't get Einar's. I can't even tell if it is a "g" or a "q" in me_rille

It must be a future tense verb; they are the only words that end "-uva". I am thinking it is used as a verb becuase of the ending, but I can't be sure.

Neither is possible in Quenya so Einar, I don't know what's happened. as for the other words, yassen=in which (plural) Cano, you got linduva right. From the construction, I'm guessing that cuamin is a plural noun, but I can't find its meaning anwhere.I can't even tell if it is a "g" or a "q" in me_rille
[Edited on 22/2/2003 by Peredhil]

You might have to tell us Einar.
Yes Einar, please do. i am wondering. Lol though, Tall men desire to be beautiful.

Yes Einar.Do post the answer

Someone could post another word or phrase for us to contemplate while we wait for Einar to return with his translation.

I just recalled Liv Tyler talking about that phrase on the National Geographic: Lord of the Ring: Behind the Movie. So I double checked.
Anyway, I believe it is my turn:

Sorry to be bothering with a question, but I just found out about this game and I really want to join, but I haven't gotten the time to practice my Quenya/Sindarin and was kinda hoping someone could tell me a good site to look up difficult words? If you don't want to reveal it in here, please send me a PM

Cuamin linduva yassen megrille
My bow shall sing with your sword
This is sindarin too! I thought we were suppose to use sentences we made ourselves in Quenya, not copying Sindarin phrases from other websites. When we find the phrase we also find the correct translation written besides it and what is the fun in that?

If anyone is interested in something of a challenge, here is a recent Quenya poem of mine:
Laurenand’!
Mily’any’ ata vanta undu i lauri aldar.
Lassinta lantaner, ar vanyaner,
Sanwi eress’ ’rar.
Laurenand’!
Enyaluvan i laica salqu’
Ar hald’ tier, yass’ simbelmyn’ nar uv’a,
Loht’a mi endanya.
Enjoy!
btw, I'm not entirely sure if it's all correct; it should be. Also, it's not a very good poem, due to lack of available vocabulary.
