I have never tried to write in the tub, but I love to read in the tub. It is not quite so dangerous. It might be a good place to re-read what you have written, and make corrections.
Yeah, and if it is bad enough, you can easily take the gentleman's way out, and make like a Roman. Very Sad Smilie (If this is too obscure, it was meant to be, I didn't want to give the youngsters any more ideas on how to do away with themselves.) Shaking Head Smilie Very Big Grin Smilie
Oh dear, Grondy. Hopefully I'll never find my writing that bad Big Smile Smilie

I skipped work early today and had a good crack at it. All the plots are now in place, a bit of suspense added etc... Just got to write the action now... Still no twins yet though.

To avoid disappointment, what words are conjured in your minds when you think of the twins (and don't say, yummy, drool, gorgeous etc unless you want to find them floating face-down in a stream)
Val, you wouldn't! Think of their poor parents, who have already lost a daughter. Wink Smilie

You might even like to consider an explanation for why they did not leave with their father - like they wanted to help finish off the orcs in ME or maybe even some animosity between them and their father?

Words/ideas for the twins: wise, loremaster, warrior, reserved (shy even), intelligent, fair, excellent horsemen, proud, determined, fanatical in hatred of orcs, highly athletic an the emotional pain of having let their mother be captured.

It would be nice to see the twins with some brains for once. There really must have been far more to them than just some hunky physiques and pretty faces.

Maybe that's just wishful thinking on your part, Allyssa. Smile Smilie
So what's your interpretation of the twins going to be, Val?
What have I missed? Story coming up Val? Big Smile Smilie
I think also, their age might play a part in how they are. Although by the time of the war of the Ring they are getting on for about 2900 years old, which is pretty old by human standards, in elven terms it's still youngish. The First and Second ages saw a lot of changes to the elven people, particularly the loss of many of the great lords. The elves in Rivendell are for the most part survivors of these lords people so they would have grown up in a different atmosphere to the twins.

Unlike this world, in which progress occurs with passing time, in Middle Earth the strength of the people seems to diminish. For the twins, therefore, they are being brought up with people who have taken part in huge battles and seen truely wondrous things, and are now in effect, almost living in a retirement home. They are young and crave the glory of the elves around them, but are ancient by the reckoning of men. Watching a human grow up, teaching him skills etc, and then seeing him die must be painful, especially when it happens over and again. They are caught in a kind of no-man's land, where both people's will seem quite different to the world in which they live.
Watch it Val, that could be a candidate for 'The post of the week" and really shouldn't be hidden out in this backwater for droolers. Very Big Grin Smilie
That is really moving Val. We could always copy it to the Characters thread. I have never read such a perceptive interpretation of Elladan and Elrohir.
Smile Smilie Pleased you like it, but to be honest, I thought I was just waffling. You can move/copy it if you wish, Allyssa, but perhaps it'll be appreciated here more, where it can be read by people who like to drool over the twins.

Did I portray them okay in the story, then? I'm getting a bit nervous about this one. Write anything about a subject where people have strong impressions of how something should be and you risk treading on toes.
you have an amazing insight. I am very impressed!
Val, the twins were perfect!

Err...Mellie, have you checked your email (the one you posted in the Readers Please thread)?
Yes, Allyssa, I checked my email. Happy Elf Smilie And Guess What!!!!! It is working again. Yippeeee! Super Wow Smilie I was very excited to get Val's story. Thank you so much for sending it to me. I really do appreciate it.

Val, I loved your stroy. Read Smilie It was great. I would love to read more.

Allyssa, since my email worked for this one, if you could send me more stories to read, that would be wonderful. Orc Smiling Smilie
Check your posts for the forgotten paragraph too. I actually forgot to write the final scene (I was getting tired by the time I finished)
Could you send it to me too, Val?! Email's working again too! Big Smile Smilie
Look what I found. Strong evidence that Elladan and Elrohir will be in TTT or ROTK.

Just when I had almost completely given up hope. Pary Smilie Merry Christmas Smilie I Love You Smilie

Well, they're certainly twins... a bit snooty looking if you ask me.
But E and E often seem a little 'snooty' in LOTR. It is really just natural reserve that makes them appear so. Cool Elf Smilie Cool Elf Smilie

The pic is a little blurry, so I can't be sure if those two are twins or not. If they are twins, they just have to be them, don't they? Can't think of any other twins off-hand.

*is very excited about this* Super Wow Smilie In Love Smilie Happy Elf Smilie
Here is some more info about the twins, found by ProgHead777
That first one was a little scary Mellie! But the other two have some potential. I checked out the male models too. Now you would think that there would be some strong possibilities 'looks-wise' wouldnt you? Sadly not, IMO.

I still like this guy:
This is more a question for Ally really, she's the expert. Animated Wink Smilie

And I don't know if there actually is an official fanclub, but there probably is one, and I think Ally wanted to avoid people thinking this is the real thing. I think... Cool Smilie
And I don't know if there actually is an official fanclub, but there probably is one, and I think Ally wanted to avoid people thinking this is the real thing. I think...

Quite correct Tommi! This fan club is not even supported by the webmaster or the council, but there have been no moves to shut it down, so I guess it is okay. Wink Smilie

As for an official fan club; not as far as I know. But if elves seen in the background of The Council of Elrond in the movie can have their own website, I think it will only be a matter of time. If I had the $$$ I would start one myself Wink Smilie

Inder: Yes, Elladan and Elrohir have dark hair, like their father.

So much alike were they, the sons of Elrond, that few could tell them apart: dark-haired, grey-eyed, and their faces elven-fair...[ FOTR, The Passing of the Grey Company]

I have sometimes wondered whether they inherited this from their elven or dunedan ancestry. It ties in with the 'What colour was Legolas' hair' debate, and whether you think most elves are blonde or brunette.

This would be interesting when they arrive in Aman, and are consequently 'made all elf' (there is a quote to that but I cant find it at the moment). Would their hair change colour? If so, what to? Silver or gold?

Sad Smilie PT wouldn't let me log in for a while, I'm sorry if I missed too much... and do you mind taking my name off the list? (I don't think that I could maintain this thread) or maybe make a "member who will pop in and out intermittently" section?
member who will pop in and out intermittently" section?

hey Gilvala
Glad to see your login is sorted.
popping in and our intermittently is fine. I keep forgetting about this thread, and I am the treasurer. Of course I took on this position knowing the duties would be light due to lack of monetary funds. Big Smile Smilie
I loved the movie Twins with Arnie and Danny. I laughed so hard. It was a great movie. I would love to picture Arnie as the twins but back in his Conan days. He is tooo old now. Still good looking but too old for our twins. I don't like Fabio at all. Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt just aren't right for the parts either, but still gorgeous. I will have to think on this one a bit more.
Hey what about Johnny Depp? Or Freddy Prinze Jr. ?

check out these guys:

I pop in and out intermittently too. don't worry about it.

You are quite welcome to pop in and out as you please, Gilvala. Big Smile Smilie
Yeah I do it all the time, on most threads. Big Smile Smilie Waving Hello Smilie Hi Gilvala! Welcome back!
Thanks a lot Juggling Smilie I'm going to juggle being on 3 different LOTR postBodyboards and 2 emails at the same time! Tongue Smilie Juggling Smilie I have a feeling that its going to be like Jumping Flame Smilie but hey! Life's fun - the school term's over... and I just like playing with these emoticons.... Angel Smilie So what are we doing now?
Perhaps we could discuss some possibilities for actor(s) to play Elladan and Elrohir. Whether we will see the twins in TTT, remains to be seen. From what I have heard and seen, it dose not look likely. Very Sad Smilie

So I thought it would be fun to pretend/suggest/speculate. We would only need one actor, given modern special effects. So who do we fancy?

Stuart Townsend? (hehe) Fabio (in a dark wig)? I'm sure you guys can come up with much better suggestions. Big Smile Smilie Elf Winking Smilie Cool Elf Smilie

FABIO???!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I con't beleef iss no buttor...
I will Choose to not drool over anyone. However, I would like to say that Luthien has my vote for finest Elf Maid. Any elven lass that can sing Morgoth to sleep can sing a lullaby for me. Yum...

Ahem... that being said, I would like to join the E&E club just to give mad props to the Elven bros that smite orcs handily. I think they were most excellent elves. Theor sister was a hottie. Their dad was most cool, too.

Speaking of Elrond... I know Celeborn is like really ancient and all, but doesn't Elrond strike you are just a Metric Butt-Ton wiser?
The funniest movie twins I have seen were Arnold Schwarsnaeger (or however he spells his name) and Danny deVito in Twins, so I propose those two. Big Laugh Smilie
Or Arnold and Danny could just play the twins father and (great^10) uncle Elros, with Danny playing Elrond. This would show us the comparative contrast that the Numenorians have descended to by the time of LOTR. Of course we would then need to use midgets to play Aragorn, Boromir, and Faramir. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
I'm sure if we keep going, Grondy, Allyssa will eventually bite. Wink Smilie
I dunno. If I was casting the film, I'd definitely go with this guy-

and check out those film credits! He WAS *DUM Dum dummmm* The Slavemaster! Ooooo... Wary Smilie
* pointedly ignores Val's last post.

Big Laugh Smilie @ Val (loved that film too!)
Very Big Grin Smilie @ Prog

Don't you think this one has Elvish potential?

Maybe this one as some Orc?

I kinda like this one too:
Hmmmm....these ones have some possiblities....Thanks Tommi.
Now I found that to be interesting and I want that they went to rest with their mom and pop at the end, even if it appears they were less Elf-like than I had afore thought.

How about if one wanted to stay and the other wanted to leave and they finally became estranged in the end, each going their separate way? (I only add this as another branch of possible discussion.)
Not sure if the ones in the pic are really twins, Ally. What if they're just two Elvish warriors? *trying to spoil the fun* Animated Wink Smilie
They delay their choice, and remain for a while.

Now, I am going to disagree with the essay writer on that issue. I don't think there was any ambiguity. Tolkien meant that they went oversea later, probably with Celeborn. If they hadn't, Tolkien would have said: "They delay their choice, but remain in Middle Earth" or even just: "They chose to join their fates with M E" or something like that. I, and I think most others, firmly believe they went oversea, and retired in Aman. This could make a good poll subject, if we could use this format.

Perhaps we will see them in ROTK. If Haldir is dead, we will need E and E for the Paths of the Dead wont we? There is still hope fellow fans! Maybe even some action figures/posters/stickers and stuff.
(Gilvala returns.. intermittently...)
they'll have hope as soon as the general public realises who they are... Sad Smilie Half of my fellow LOTR fans in area can't remember their names (and they call themselves fans *snort*) and they'll have more hope once their father isn't portrayed like a cranky, stressed-out, old man... (that's what most of my "LOTR fan" friends say after the movie Mad Smilie (sorry, I happen to like Elrond in a "admiration" kind of way...)
If anyone comes across an action figure, let me know! I want one too. Big Laugh Smilie

I am a fan of book-Elrond too (the real Elrond, not that dreadful impersonator). I would have loved to have seen Elrond represented as the kindly, warm, wise Elf-lord that he should have been. Sad Smilie
Book Elrond was nice, wasn't he... pity about Hugo Weaving - he was good in the Matrix, but I think his portrayal of Elrond in the movie was a bit "mannish" as opposed to"elvish"... and a bit depressed... but I'll keep an eye out for action figures Tongue Smilie

2 days to go!!!! Big Smile Smilie

Christmas Smilie Merry Christmas to all! Merry Christmas Smilie Standing Up Santa Smilie

and to all a good night Tired Santa Smilie
Now I'm really beginning to wonder if they are gonna include the twins...I haven't gotten any indication that they will appear in RotK, nor have they been introdused earlier (like Arwen, but then again she's a very somewhat sentral? person) But aren't they too? We already know that Aragorn will recieve the reforged sword, PJ has said so himself, and he has also said something else blabla (need to go home and check on the dvd Big Smile Smilie ) I think the twins deserve to be in the film...I hope things don't go downwards from here Shaking Head Smilie
Hopefully the twins will be the ones who give the sword to Aragorn, or at least in PJ-style, go with Arwen who gives the sword to Aragorn. I don't think it's fair for the audience who hasn't read the book to think that Arwen is an only child. But then again, if she is potrayed as an only child that would explain why Elrond seems so protective of her.
I think allowing Arwen to wander about in the wild unchaperoned would be most irresponsible of PJ. Big Laugh Smilie (Unless he decides to give her Xena powers as well. Shaking Head Smilie )

Arwen needs her brothers to protect her from orcs, and they would hardly allow her to leave alone after what happened to her mother.

And I think all fathers are extra protective of their daughters, regardless of the number of sons they might have. It's a 'Daddy's-little-girl' thing.

Elladan and Elrohir should be in ROTK!

Do you think it would help if we got up a pettition or something? Wink Smilie Wink Smilie (jk)
I'm gonna join in, as a wonderer, I do want to see the twins in ROTK, i mean they can't leave them out!!!

LOL, Allyssa, before i saw the (jk) i was like< yes!!! good idea> but i'm guessing the jk explains a lot.

I'm mainly drooling over Elrohir(i also LOVe love the name), i guess u could say i prefer the younger twin Big Smile Smilie
