I would have to assume that it depends upon when the two paragraphs were written. Not having access to HOME Vol. 12, I can't speak to this topic, but will lean towards that given in LotR until someone proves that J.R.R.Tolkien changed his mind. Are those 'Chilimanzar' and 'Chilic' hobbitish and did they specifically apply to Merry Brandybuck's first name?

Okay so it woud be that Chikic was the first name what Tolkien gave to Merry in genuine Hobbitish and afterwards he change to Kalimac???

Yes the names Chilimanzar, Chilic represent rejected draft ideas, superseded by the final published version Kalimac, short name Kali. Back in Frodo's day, nobody really called Merry 'Merry', but Kali rather.

"Kalimac" was his name in hobbitish, which usually was shortened to "Kali" by those who knew him. "Kali" meant "joy" in Westron, so when Tolkien translated that to English, he came out with "Merry".
Anyway, this is my current understanding on the naming of Master Brandybuck; but I am certainly no expert on any language, especially not those from the Professor's imagination. I have enough trouble with my own Americaneese.
