Planet Tolkien is archived and no longer updated, but the forums remain browseable. We have established a Telegram group for old and new visitors to stay connected and discuss all things Tolkien.
Don't know if you've heard of it before, don't know if any of you folk are already using it, but it's the latest revolution in telephone business. You can download a programme from the net for free and make phonecalls to anyone anywhere in the world (anyone who has the programme too) without any extra costs. You only pay for the internet connection. This makes international phonecalls very cheap if you have a broadband connection. All you need is a microphone and headphones, and that's it!

Been using it for more than two years now, works really well. A nice way to keep in touch with old (and new) friends that don't live nearby.

Yes I have Tommie. Here in the US the cities and states are now trying to figure out if and how they can tax it, like they do normal telephone service to pay for our emergancy response dispatchers via telephone number 911, which we call to report fires, accidents, etc. This will be a problem as more people opt for the computer based service and the tax revenues decrease.
It sounds good and I wouldn't mind using it except I can't plug my microphone into the pc - the socket is at the back and means I'd have to plug it in permanently because I can't get to it without dragging the whole thing out and also I can't have a microphone *and* speakers at the same time which sounds bizarre to me.

Skype is nice, except for complete strangers who send messages in I don't know what kind of languages and thinks I want to talk to them. But they can be blocked. I have lost my contact list though, so Celeb, send me a msg so I can add you again.

Skype is a very nice thing especially when you use it during game to communicate friends from your team it helps a lot in internet gaming ;-)))

I had skype on my old pc, but didn't work to good at all, not sure if I'll bother downloading it again or not, though it's a fantastic idea, basically free phone calls anywhere in the world.
