Hi everyone,
I'm going to the Tolkien Society's 'Tolkien 2005 - The Ring Goes Ever On' event, which is being held to celebrate 50 years of LOTR. It's being held at Aston University, Birmingham, UK during August.
It's being held a a superb location (but I am biased!), and should be great fun. I'm going largely to see who I meet, and talk to other Tolkien fans.
My question is: Are any of you out there planning to attend? It would be cool if we go having already made contact with other people!
Anyway, let us know!

Nice idea. What are the dates?
The dates are August 11-15th 2005. Full details are on the Tolkien Society's website:

It looks like there's a lot of Tolkien-related lectures, activities, art, dealer's stalls etc. already lined up for the event, with more to come! I believe that approx. 500-600 people have so far registered to attend.
I don't think registration is cheap, though - check

If you need accommodation, that will be provided by the uni, in their quite new Laskeside building. This was built to support the uni's conference facilities, so it's quite nice!

Firstly, I would say that there are plenty of better locations to place this event, and I'll NEVER understand why they have put it there. Still, I won't be dwelling on it.
As am avid Tolkien fan I feel that this is an unmissible event, especially as it's one in my own country. I have many friends in the Society from all around the country (and the world) so it is also a good opportunity for me to meet up with them. Also, I may possibility be meeting other members of my forum, Rohan and may be other members of my possible future websites.
I am looking forward to the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as attending the quiz and the costume extravaganza.
I ma also looking forward to the panels/papers on Hope, Sacrifice and Courage; Tolkien's Mythology; The Great Questions; Merchandising and Scholarship; Race and Oragnisation in Tolkien; and Tolkien Linguistics.
I may also attend the excursions to both Oxford and Birmingham (although I have already done a self-trip of Birmingham), but I am not yet decided as there are many of the papers/panels I would like to attend.
