Thread: New Locations?

Bottom of Page    Message Board > Website Suggestions > New Locations?
Hi...this is probably stated somewhere, and I am totally missing it, but why can't we be Elves and/or Humans from other regions? (i.e. a Mirkwood elf?)
Or..... Edoras, Minas Tirith, Pelagrir, Dol Amroth, Fornost for the men?
Lindon for the elves, Blue Mountains for the dwarves?

I would love to see Dol Amroth added to be honest.
It has been mentioned before, it is on the wishlist. I don't know how much work it will take be to do that, only Taz (Tarrant) knows that since he is the one who has to do it. But what I do know is that Taz is a very busy young man and he has quite a list of things he has to do already...
Deal Smilie

We in the Council have reluctantly admitted that he also needs to go to work, eat, sleep and get out in the real world from time to time, and not just work on PT. Don't forget that this version of the site is built by Taz alone, this is not some premade just-choose-a-colour-scheme-and-you-are-ready-to-start forum. He added some locations as a start and more will probably come. Or something better, who knows? Just be patient, 'cause MAN he has surprised us in the past! Big Smile Smilie
Poor fella. Just giving some suggestions, that is all. But it would be a nice feature. Smile Smilie

I know. Smile Smilie I'd like to be an elf in the Grey Havens. I have grown up by the sea and the fishing industry and the boat building industry is majorly important here. But the mountains and valleys in and around Rivendell is makes me feel very much at home too.
Thanks for replying. Yes, I am also very happy wandering around Rivendell; although, I think I might be a little more carefree in Mirkwood. Wink Smilie
I was just wondering about moving to Mirkwood as well. then when i went to see if i could, it wasn't on the list....no worries or anything, I just wanted to make a suggestion as well! Smile Smilie
I think the evil guys should get some place to live, too. mordor for some orcs, or minas morgul. (is there isengard for uruk-hai? I'm not quite sure, I don't remember...) or the south of ME (I don't remember the name and I haven't got the books near) for haradrim, that would be another place for men. that would be funny. I'm a bit into the dark side, I can't help. Orc Smiling Smilie
You already can be from mordor, can't you? Anyway the Southlands are called Harad or Haradwaith, and it would be cool to have some space for the evil men, not just Rohirrim and Gondorians.
you can??? I didn't know that...

right, thanks, my brain is a bit damaged after my head's blowing up... (guild of madness)
I'm certainly your opinion, and the corsairs from umbar could do with some space, too. (don't the ships look great in the movies? one of my favourite scenes)
umm...i don't think you can be from Mordor...Moria, but not Mordor
Mayhaps the powers that be think there are already to many evil people in the world, such that they don't want to allow them a place in which to congregate. Its the old 'where two or three people are gathered in my name' bit that applies to evil as well as good.

Angel Smilie We at Planet-Tolkien wish to be on the side of the good guys, and while we will allow the bad guys access, in hope that we can change their ways; we won't facilitate their ability to incorporate any expansion their evil doing. Wiggle Smilie
Isn't Isengard evil enough for the babies ? *sigh*
that's unfair, the evil ones are always suppressed... I prefer the evils to the good ones very often and constantly lose... not nice, preciousss.
but what would the good ones be without he evil ones?? noone would know that they are good! but before we put up a fight we better not let the villains get in here...
Youse gots it Ithil, dat's why we'uns 'ave let a few token baddies into da joint, and nobodys said nuttin' bout ours havin' ta be fair neither. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
ok so we have 14, count em, 14 new locations / races: Fangorn, Mountains, Mirkwood, Minas Tirith, Pelagrir, Dol Amroth, Fornost, Lindon, Blue Mountains, Grey Havens, Moria, Minas Morgul, Haradwaith, Umbar.

pop along to edit profile and knock yourself out - any more needed just drop me a line!
To be honest, the Mithril, Weather and Races features seem quite isolated and not really useful at the moment, because there's no one big feature of the site that would bind all these together.. I mean, say we choose the race and location. Then what? It's just displayed in the profile. Maybe we could have some specific feature for every race and/or location that would actually make people want to switch places!

Speaking of Mithril, how about a voting system, where people can vote in favour of a post they like. The poster would earn Mithril perhaps. I know the POTWs exist, but it's all down to the council and surely, there are some other posts besides the POTWs that deserve some credit. This feature could be misused though. So we could have a privilage system. The more Mithril you earn, the more privilages you get on the site. Say, like your vote would have a better value or something? This way, quality rather than quantity would matter. Voting would also mean that it'd be easy for someone reading a thread to spot the good posts easily. This could also mean taking away the Mithril you receive daily. That'd be just a giveaway...

Sorry! Am I talking too much? Maybe I'm too sleepy. Wary Smilie
I do have many things in mind for the mithril system and somthing like this is one of them but there are a lot more basic issues that need to be addressed before this one. However many people have asked for more things to do with mithril and having figured out new races and locations was an easy one i thought i'd go ahead and do it.
Thanks for adding those Top/Bottom links Grep! The forums look much prettier too! Great work already!

Just one more thing though... Why is the Logout link visible on the Main Menu even when I'm not logged in?

Because Grep in his effort to be consistant, also has the login link visible when you are already logged in. Elf Sticking Tounge Out Smilie Elf With a Big Grin Smilie Besides it would have taken more code and time to make them appear and disappear depending on each member's current status, and that time was better spent building other more utilitarian bells and whistles as well as making the site more visually appealing IMHO.
what about ratings? i have a feeling i have already asked but o well. and mainly i would like to congradulate Grep. it looks great. (one thing though, my avatar wont change, its probably me but if it isnt...can you help?) o my i put "u" the first time i wrote that. its sooo adicting
Welcome to PT, Grep-testing-account !
ahh - oops i created an account for testing that has normal user status as opposed to lord of all he surveys (Bwa ha ha ha hah) etc. and forgot who i was logged in as. Damm. Now I can't delete the account and re-create it like i usually do. Time for Greps-testing-account-the-second i think!

Not sure that's right you've changed your avatar three times recently. Jesus, the Panda and nowe a troll. incentally i prefered jesus - that one was good. It might be a size issue and it might be a browser caching issue. Hold down shift and click refresh and then stop using internet exploer and get a better browser! Grrr, Growl etc. Smile Smilie
its not a troll, its a squirrel called Arnold (think govoner of California or Termanator....)
it wasnt Jesus it was Ccat Stevens!
its not IE its Firefox!
it ends up it just takes time for it to change and i was being impasient!
and Grondy!

And I liked the purple panda you had earlier.
My infinite thanks to Greppy and all the other council members for the new locations!

True. But, the only problem I have with the Login and Logout links visible all the time, is that I can't figure out if I'm logged in or not! Maybe a status line somewhere, telling me that I'm logged in?
Well if you are not logged in, you can't post or edit you posts. That should give you a hint. Wink Smilie
If you're not logged in you won't be able to see the black messages bar underneath the header. I agree it's a problem though.

I can't see that even if I am logged in. Do you mean the "you have 1 new message" thingie? That goes away once you have read or deleted the message.

I wouldn't call it a problem. If a member is not logged in, he(or she) can't reply in the thread he is reading, he cant edit or delete his posts, and on the left hand side menu the entire Your Account area with links will be gone.

About 10 links are gone if you are not logged in. It should be fairly easy to see, you just have to notice it first. The obvious things are often the hardest to see. Happy Elf Smilie
This is true, i didn't realise it went away completely when you have no messges, since everyone in middle earth writes to me on a fairly regular basis - most often to thank me for mithril or to ask what it's for - I have to get around to changing the welcome e-mail!
Heh, I can imagine. Maybe you should edit the mithril message and add what mithril is and what it can be used for there. That might spare you from a few PMs perhaps?
That's what i mean - need to change it, so much to do so little time. I cleared 150 messages out of my inbox this week!
Grep!!!!! add aman to the location list or tell me how and ill do it if you are lazy Big Smile Smilie
"He ain't lazy father, he's just too busy."
Well let me help then Big Smile Smilie
We Should be able to have the race and location seperate. I can be a Elf in the Shire, and change to Isengard for 400 Mithrill, and become an Ent for 1000 or whatever. So the Place and Race do not have to be Elf from Elf Place, Hobbit from Shire, etc.
I think something like that would be my wish too... that we can pretty much make up our own race and location and plug it in like we do the avatars and change it sometimes for an amount of mithril.
