Thread: Should Legolas be in the Hobbit

Bottom of Page Message Board > The Hobbit (Movie) > Should Legolas be in the Hobbit << [1] [2] [3] [4] >>
You're totally right there Dwalin, Legolas was a right show off and poor Gimli made out to be less than he is (a hero). I don't really want to see him in the next, and I certainly don't want to see Bloom in the next! Elves need to share some of the glory with the Dwarves in the new Hobbit movies, defo.

[b:1gh2efh1]Joseph Dwarf[/b:1gh2efh1]
Lolz, yeah I suppose! Maybe we'll get a wider range of Dwarf-personalities from Jackson this time.

On a different note, thinking about it, alot of the dwarves in the Hobbit are kind of foolish (save maybe Balin and Thorin), Bombir falls into the black stream and has to be carried and they all get outwitted by the Trolls (although they do it to help Bilbo). Hobbit is a different story though, because Gimili was kinda wise and suspicious (not like the film Gimli  ) in the LotR whereas the Dwarves in the Hobbit are easily tricked, so maybe they will all be stupid again .

[b:jckyidc3]Joseph Dwarf[/b:jckyidc3]
Well, even if he does make it in, his part will be much smaller than in LotR. There's only one of him and 13 Dwarves .

[b:3oyqd89n]GB[/b:3oyqd89n]
I would be pleased to see him again even if it's just a cameo appearance, I wouldn't put it past Peter Jackson to do that with other characters.
Likely indeed Estel.

[b:180dwrj2]GB[/b:180dwrj2]
I'm okay with cameos so long as the characters in question had been born during the timeframe of The Hobbit (i.e., no Frodo, unless they use a framing device of Bilbo telling the story to kids), and would realistically be in the area (i.e., no Denethor).
I concur Eldo. Cameos should be reasonable within established canon.

[b:qr39b3h0]GB[/b:qr39b3h0]
yeah...just a cameo it doesn't matter!!!I just want to see him I need to see him I really want him!!!
you know what??HE SHOULD BE IN THE HOBBIT MOVIE!!! he is the king's son... I think it would be a little funny...
where the prince of a great realm could be during the story??? I think deltoro can bring Legolas back easily!
if he doesn't bring him I would kill myself!!!I'm not kidding... :x
where the prince of a great realm could be during the story??? I think deltoro can bring Legolas back easily![/quote:3744pu0u]

I really hope they don't go overboard with how much screentime he gets. And no surfing, please.

[quote:3744pu0u]if he doesn't bring him I would kill myself!!!I'm not kidding... :x [/quote:3744pu0u]

It's just a movie.
But Legolas, you just got here. It would be a shame for you to depart this mortal coil so soon.

[b:t9gvweo9]GB[/b:t9gvweo9]
Ok...ok..I've changed my mind...I won't kill myself... you know...I was crazy in that moment!!!
Good  ! I hate to lose a forum member!

[b:vs7y4j1g]GB[/b:vs7y4j1g]
We're all crazy sometimes. Especially here.
I don't believe having Legolas or Gimli in TH would be an asset to the movie. The money to pay the actors, even for a short time, would be greater than any merchandising profit they may bring...though some footage not used from LotR, could be used to give a glimpse of them, specialty Legolas since the movie "goes" to his home...

PJ left Imrahil and Glorfindel out of LotR, I don't agree but..ok, but now he cannot spend money and time to include OB or JRD in person. That wouldn't be ... coherent.
The money to pay the actors, even for a short time, would be greater than any merchandising profit they may bring[/quote:2sqf0f7f]

That's not an angle I'd thought of before, but I think it's a good one. Orlando Bloom doesn't have as many fangirls as he used to, and I don't think JRD ever had any. :P

[quote:2sqf0f7f]PJ left Imrahil and Glorfindel out of LotR, I don't agree but..ok, but now he cannot spend money and time to include OB or JRD in person. That wouldn't be ... coherent.[/quote:2sqf0f7f]

PJ has shown himself to be quite comfortable with both cutting and adding to the story in order to tell the story [i:2sqf0f7f]he[/i:2sqf0f7f] wanted rather than the one Tolkien wrote, but I certainly hope that he (and GDT) can restrain himself/themselves this time.
 why does everyone disagree with Legolas' appearance??? he's a nice guy...if he and some of the characters wasn't in the movie or book I didn't like it at all!!!!and if orlando refuses to appear as Leggy again I will never forgive him!because he became famous just because of Legolas... :x
he shouldn't forget that who he was ...and who he is right now... before lotr trilogy no one knew orlando bloom but now he's known around the world... from USA to India every one knows him...and remember him as Legolas... and if he has lost some of his fan girls is because of himself...after POTC he hadn't play a good role same as Legolas or william turner... but a real fan MUST MUST wait[/color:3s1r2oz9]...as I did...I knew my beloved star (OB) will show himself again I don't doubt it!!!and I know many persons that hadn't lost their hopes on Orlando!...YES!!!!
why does everyone disagree with Legolas' appearance???[/quote:103fjz98]

For me it's because he's just not part of the story. He's great in LotR, where he is, but I'd rather The Hobbit show us more new people and places instead of trying to include as many things from LotR (the opposite of what George Lucas did with the Star Wars prequels, essentially :P ).

[quote:103fjz98]he's a nice guy...if he and some of the characters wasn't in the movie or book I didn't like it at all!!!![/quote:103fjz98]

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you said that you won't like the movie or book The Hobbit if it doesn't have Legolas in it. Did I understand you correctly? Also, out of curiosity, have you read the book yet?
Erm...Eldo, you DO realize you're talking to a Legolas fan don't you ?

A Legolas cameo gets a thumbs way up from me 8-) . It would be odd not to see the son of Thranduil make an appearance. And in his blonde wig Legolas would no doubt attract hordes of NEW Tween fan-girls :P . And I think some dismiss the merchandising income potential far too quickly.

[b:2qsc9k95]GB[/b:2qsc9k95]
I have no problem with a Legolas cameo, if thats all it is. He can be there by his fathers throne or whatever but I suspect they will find it hard to resist finding him something to do, and that could be bad, I can envision Legolas helping them escape his fathers hall or some such. Given the flights of fancy they took in LoTR this is sadly not beyond them to do.

I suppose the question is [i:iklu8mu9]fan or fangirl[/i:iklu8mu9]. :P

I wouldn't mind a brief cameo - with emphasis on the brief part. That is, I don't want him to have any silly battle stunts or role in the actual plot. It's simply not his story. Additionally, I don't think OB's fangirl-attracting power is as strong as it was five to seven years ago. Maybe if they had Robert Pattinson as Legolas.

(Before anyone gets any ideas, I DO NOT think that would be a good idea! It's just an example.)
Oh come on :x ! You mean you don't want to see Legolas surfing through Laketown and Warg Jumping in the Battle of 5 Armies :P  . And methinks you underestimate the power of pointy ears and a blonde wig to reinvigorate the Orlando fan base .

Oh God...Oh God...Oh God...oh God..! (GB would [i:kbvj3w16]love[/i:kbvj3w16] that, wouldn't you old Beard!) Oh God.... Oh God....Of God-O-God...! (Where are my pills?)
The realist and the optimist within me have been battling for some time, and GB keeps throwing roadblocks at the optimist. :P
You think THAT'S bad Odo, check out the breaking news section .

[b:2tdcs4sy]GB[/b:2tdcs4sy]
Oh yes! I have looked, GB! Another of your 'roadblocks' as I've heard tell of', pray tell? :x

I should invest in a bulldozer, what with all of these roadblocks popping up.

No!you didn't understand me CORRECTLY...!well...I have read TH & Lotr 1000 times...and I can remember all the dialogs...please listen to me carefully...pay attention guys...I don't want to repeat this again first of all I was talking about Lotr not TH movie besides...it is the characters that make the story attractive... in a story like Lotr there must be characters like Legolas or Gimli or even Sam without them the story would become you know...something... (I've to buy a good dictionary...I've forgot the English word again... )
anyway...if Legolas won't appear in TH movie it makes me SAD... but I'd love it...it's Tolkien's story and Deltoro's movie...I'm sure that he would pay attention to REAL[/color:11yvjeh1] fangirls like me!
his story. Additionally, I don't think OB's fangirl-attracting power is as strong as it was five to seven years ago. Maybe if they had Robert Pattinson as Legolas.

you are right...I can't imagine him as an elf at all!...Rob with his fantastic eyebrows as my fair Leggy...  just...just don't say that again :P
I have no problem with a Legolas cameo, if thats all it is. Don't lose you hope on Mr.Deltoro & PJ !!!!they can make it up easily...don't worry if this is your problem...!!!
"Leggy?" Give me a break. Why do people call him that, anyhow? Tolkien would roll over in his grave. Anyway, to get back on track, I also agree that I don't want to see any silly stunts. I'm completely nuts for anything elvish, and even I thought the shield surfing scene was cheesy and highly improbable. I do think there should be a short Legolas cameo, since he is the only son of Thranduil that we know about, but it probably should not involve very much speaking in order to prevent it detracting from the story. They could easily slip him in beside his father in the forest scene where the party first accidentally stumbles across the elves. However, I expect they won't include him at all (even though they should). After all, they completely cut the sons of Elrond from LotR.
Yes, but the sons of Elrond aren't Legolas :P .
No!you didn't understand me CORRECTLY...!well...I have read TH & Lotr 1000 times...and I can remember all the dialogs...please listen to me carefully...pay attention guys...[/quote:alm3ozys]

I'm sorry for misunderstanding you. I didn't realize you are a memorization machine with enough time and energy to read books that many times over.

[quote:alm3ozys]I don't want to repeat this again first of all I was talking about Lotr not TH movie [/quote:alm3ozys]

That may have been part of my misunderstanding. I assumed you were talking about TH since this isn't the LOTR forum.

[quote:alm3ozys]anyway...if Legolas won't appear in TH movie it makes me SAD... but I'd love it...it's Tolkien's story and Deltoro's movie...I'm sure that he would pay attention to REAL[/color:alm3ozys] fangirls like me![/quote:alm3ozys]

Well, I agree that it's Tolkien's story, which is rather why I don't want Legolas in it. :P But we can agree to disagree.
"Leggy?" Give me a break. Why do people call him that, anyhow? [/quote:38rbtdhy]

My theory is that Legolas has nice legs. I'm probably not a great judge of male attractiveness though.

[quote:38rbtdhy]They could easily slip him in beside his father in the forest scene where the party first accidentally stumbles across the elves.[/quote:38rbtdhy]

I wouldn't mind Legolas just standing around his father at all. I even wouldn't mind the young Estel in the background at Rivendell, though that runs into the problem of the film timeline changing Aragorn's year of birth by implication, so that an Estel cameo might not work out.
Yes, but the sons of Elrond aren't Legolas :P .[/quote:37xt61md]

They have far more relevance to LOTR than Leggy does to TH. :P But I see your point.

your apologize is accepted!and I'm not a machine!got it???please don't say that again because it makes me angry...I don't want to lose my temper! :|
That may have been part of my misunderstanding. I assumed you were talking about TH since this isn't the LOTR forum.[/quote:eo5kznrh]
I had guessed that you may say this! we have lots of posts here that aren't about TH or even Lotr...so please read some posts carefully...
Well, I agree that it's Tolkien's story, which is rather why I don't want Legolas in it. :P But we can agree to disagree.[/quote:eo5kznrh]

The grammar made it a bit hard for me to figure out what you were saying. I've already apologized though; it was a simple error in reading.

[quote:bx6qrq3u]but no one will pay attention to us...they do what they want without asking fans... :P[/quote:bx6qrq3u]

To a degree, they certainly do. They have paid attention to fans at least once before though, when they scaled back Arwen's role in The Two Towers. So maybe we can make a difference by making a lot of noise on the Internet.
I agree with most people here. I wouldn't mind a Legolas cameo but only brief! and if there was no Legolas cameo i wouldn't really care..The less they deviate from the book's plot the better.

I'm a fangirl that prefers the rugged ranger type
I'm not all that sure if Legolas should or shouldn't be in the movies, but I must say I very much enjoy it when you guys fight about it. I like a good punch-up! (But only for artistic reasons - usually I deplore violence! Well, sometimes, at least...)

Hey! Perhaps Legolas could ride in on a unicorn and place an arrow or two in Attercop and Lazy Lobb. Now that would be [i:4eu5yf84]fresh[/i:4eu5yf84]! Now that would be [i:4eu5yf84]imaginativ[/i:4eu5yf84]e!
