But seriously, seeing as Del Toro has intimated that the story will be spread out over both films with White Council stuff interspersed, I suspect Bilbo will be fully functional and non-comatose

If they stick with the book Bilbo will be out cold for most of the Battle of the Five Armies (which presumably will be in the second movie) but I think there will be plenty of other material (including the White Council stuff GB mentioned) in the second movie as well. Plus they [i:197hndc9]might [/i:197hndc9]change Bilbo's role.
