The recent announcement of a new character named 'Tauriel' to The Hobbit cast will be played by Evangeline Lilly. Peter Jackson's descibes this character as a true sylvan elf and a daughter of Mirkwood with no romantic links to Legolas.
Well its got a lot of fans guessing and making suggestions as to what the storyline for this character will be.
So PJ is "improving" the story again for the modern masses, I see.
I had to google the name and she's pretty enough, I suppose.. I can't wait to see her surfing on Orc shields.
Ayup...
I'm with all those who despair when 'New' Characters are put in to pad things out... There's enuff happening within the story itself to keep us engrossed, so why more ? If it's to pull in the young female Marketing sector, then I'm just SO Disappointed...
I know that there's a section of Academia that thinks Tolkien was something of a Misogynist, but he already HAD his 'Luthien' in his wife, Edith, to whom he was devoted. And I guess only 'Needed' female Characters where he put them. Isn't that good enuff for our weird 'All Inclusive' Society nowadays ?
