Thread: More Confirmed Cast!

Any new casting rumers yet?
Jack Black as the Necromancer. Well, it's a rumour [i:1e7r8356]now[/i:1e7r8356].
Not really a cast announcement, but I heard that Rick Astley would be doing the soundtrack.
I'm sure such things are only said to cause me pain!! Maybe they've adopted a cunning strategy of putting out ridiculous rumours so that we'll except the rubbish they actually do produce with a sense of relief instead of horror.
Rumors drive me CRAZY! Maybe we should have a facts thread and then a rumors thread so petty and I don't have to be angered by rubbish!!! (good or bad)
Good to have you back Tin talking common sense. Not been a lot of that around lately, except for me of course!

Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Itaril.

:x
For what it's worth, the latest round of news reports doesn't actually say that she will be Itaril, just that she's been cast as someone, and that someone has been rumoured to be Itaril recently. Scant hope, I know, but better than nothing. Although she'll almost certainly end up being an original character anyway since Galadriel was already cast. :|

I think PJ just has a crush on her! As to who she will play, it seems unlikely she will just be a female elf or hobbit standing in the background, sadly. But I'm sure the PJ fans will insist PJ knows best- after all every time I read TH I find myself thinking, 'yeah its good but what it really needs is a crap romance story between two elves clumsily forced upon it.'

Good news Petty! Thanks to your our forum met the quota for laughably overblown analogies really early this quarter. Thank you for your service. 8-)
   That's what it seems like! Ooooooh! I think I'm just about to jump on the purist wagon for this....

I appreciate that peter jackson will want to keep as many of the lotr actors as possible for the hobbit but not at the expense of accuracy as he needs to keep as close to the book as he possibly can

I think you guys need to take a chill pill re PJ being a (word removed).......  Not very nice guys, and yes I know you were not speaking literally.

I don't see a problem with adding characters into the story as obviously there would be additional Elves other than those named in The Hobbit, and these characters would of course speak and have relationships with each other.  JRRT mentions armies of Elves, Dwarves, Men and Orcs so obviously character need to be added or it will be a very short and boring movie.

If certain people on this site cant get over the fact that changes will be made then don't go and see the film, or say your piece once and don't bring everyone who enjoys a quality film experience down.

If certain people on this site cant get over the fact that changes will be made then don't go and see the film, (...) .........

For myself, I expect changes will be made in a film adaptation, and I've no problem with that much -- but what those changes are, or even might be in theory (if one chooses to speculate based on a rumor, for instance), and why they are made, is another matter.

(...), or say your piece once and don't bring everyone who enjoys a quality film experience down.

Well, can't people with favorable opinions (about Jackson's films in general, or something specific) voice those opinions more than once?

Of course they can Galin.  However such vicious and nasty remarks made in previous posts are getting out of control and don't really fit in with this sites purpose.  The same people, over and over again seem to love to bag everything that PJ does and has done and its getting really boring.

If remarks get out of control with respect to being vicious or nasty, that's one thing (for the moderators to police I guess), but you asked certain people -- who in your opinion can't get over the fact that changes will be made -- to say their piece once, in a comment separated from your first paragraph (the first paragraph being about the not very nice remarks, as you described them)...

... you may have been referring to only certain remarks here too, but your end comment might seem to extend to people who simply disagree with Jackson's alterations (not that you intended this).

In any case it's not all that unexpected that the same people who disagree with many of Jackson's choices for The Lord of the Rings might again disagree with at least some of his choices for The Hobbit.

This is one of the threads from the forum at The-Hobbit-Movie.com, which Taz merged into PT's forum. Which explains the different tone in the earlier posts, and also there will be things we CMs have missed since we got a whole forum dropped in our lap. Please let me know if there are posts I/we should look at closer. Deal Smilie Feel free to  PM or mail me or us (amarie@planet-tolkien.com or council@planet-tolkien.com if you wish). Smile Smilie

On a different note: I could not agree more with Ringdrotten:

There's a Norwegian translation of LotR that handles the difference in speech between different regions and peoples incredibly well, it's a shame you don't understand Norwegian because it really is a great translation

"Ringdrotten" (LOTR translated into Nynorsk/"New Norwegian"Wink Smilie is a magnificent piece of work, and it combines the works of my two heroes Tolkien and Ivar Aasen. Tolkien would have not only approved, but applauded this translation, I am sure of it!

Thanks Galin, if you go back to page 1 of this thread there are a number of crude and negative remarks.  The same people seem to constantly re hash the same tripe, you galin are not one of them I may add as I and I'm sure most other readers find you posts very interesting and highly informative.

Hello!

Haven't posted here yet, simply because I couldn't get the new password to work when the two forums merged and we got a new forum up and running again before I even tried a second time! But here I am, and perhaps I'll pop in a little more often and join in on your discussions too Smile Smilie

He would have loved it Smile Smilie And to run into a fan of both Ringdrotten and Ivar Aasen on an Internet forum - fantastic Big Smile Smilie

My thoughts exactly! I've been hoping you'd come and say hi since I first say your nick in the merged threads. Velkomen til PT!

Brego I fear my brother Petty is almost certainly the main one to which you have found objection. Partly the problem arises from these threads being lifted and deposited, and for some reason the posts are often not even in the right order, and many of the posters on the old forum (and still on its new version) are characters as much as people. You kind of have to get to know them to get the sarcasm and self deprecation. Insults at anyone on a personal level, PJ included they are certainly not.

For example Petty often calls PJ's wife and writing partner by the collective term 'The Coven', not very flattering to women on the surface, but the use is a double-meaning. Both the genuine belief on his part (which I share) that the scripts as adaptations were very poor, and as a reflection on the sort of people who would simply reason this was because women wrote it. So by using the term he is both critiquing the script and lambasting the notions of anti-female views by using an over the top term to describe them and an over the top character (Petty) to proclaim them..

Understandabley it takes a bit of time to know the character of Petty (and others in these lifted threads) well enough to see this, out of context as these threads are they will unfortunately be open to the sort of interpretation you have put upon them.

What a huge place this is!  A simple hobbit from Forumshire The Hobbit Movie Forum could easily get lost here.

While I'm here, can anyone tell me where Taz has put all of the Old Forum's intellectual and creative property. Not all of it has been returned yet, and it is still a sore point with me.

You wouldn't have liked this place ~10 years ago then, when the PJ adaptations were just out. Wink Smilie

I can accept changes are happening. I just don't have to like it. Nor is it a reason not to debate the merits of changes or to point out where they may seem to be detrimental to the film. Without debate what's the point of a forum?

As to bringing you down, well I'm sorry if reasoned arguments that poke holes in the mess PJ made of the LOtR films -and which he seems hell bent on repeating on a bigger scale of self creation on TH-upset you.

To use a variant on your own suggestion- DON'T READ THEM if you don't like them.

You seem a more than reasonable lass, Pretty. I agree with you. If one can't discuss ones likes and dislikes, or provide ones thoughts, what kind of forum would this be? We might then call it "Big Brother" Planet, I guess. I'm sure this is a better forum than that.
