Boring began this thread with the following post

Since We're starting on places how they were in the movie, we shouldn't exclude bag end.

In the movie bag end looked nice but certainly not like the description as given in the hobbit

I always pictured as a large tunnel with adjoining rooms not one room with no tunnels
and i thought it was huge like taking allmost all the space of the hill and had several doors opening to the outside world

This is a very good point. The Hallway looked right, but that was as far as it went. I never pictured it to be quite so airy and light. More of a smoky hobbit hole used to being lived in to the extreme. You know there were two single blokes living there after all (and not an empty lager can in sight!)

Bilbo had to hide all the booze incase Gandalf drank it all Big Smile Smilie
Bag End was rather postThreadIDy for a bachelor pad, wasn't it?

Maybe Bilbo employed a maid of two. And who did the cooking? I can't see either Frodo of Bilbo doing cleaning either.

Did think it was a beautiful set though. I will study it for home decorating tips myself.
Bilbo used to cook in the Hobbit - seed cakes for tea, etc. And he cleaned up too - did the washing up, dusting etc.

Dunno about Frodo...maybe he employed a daily? And it's not inconceivable that a bachelor's pad could be v. postThreadIDy - the single blokes I knew during my bachelor days had very neat & postThreadIDy apartments...unlike mine, of course.
They must all have been gay then Golly Wink Smilie And Frodo probably got Sam to do it all for him. After all didn't he go to Crickholllow with him to "do for" him?
Bag End wasn't what I had pictured it to be like at all, no. But it was quite all right still. Not that bad. The tunnel should have been there though, I agree. But the part where Gandalf keeps bumping his head was great. As the part where Bilbo keeps running around, while Gandalf only wants tea! Great! Big Smile Smilie
Yep i think sam would have cleaned it all... this reminds me of....[Edited on 11/1/2002 by Grondmaster]
I didn't really have an issue with Bag End in the movie...in the book it says how nice and light and airy Bag End was...and Bilbo was kind of a neat freak - remember how he got all freaked out when the dwarves were messing with his dishes?

Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates--
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!

Cut the cloth and tread on the fat!
Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
Splash the wine on every door!

Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl;
Pound them up with a thumping pole;
And when you've finished, if any are whole,
Send them down the hall to roll!

That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!
So, carefully! carefully with the plates!

Oooh. I love that bit. Must go read Hobbit after this! I looove Bilbo. Little darling!
*stupid
That was a great bit! It's a great starter for a book like the hobbit. Gives you an idea of the rest... Big Smile Smilie [Edited on 11/1/2002 by Grondmaster]
fortunately the book wasn't full with such stuff or i wouldn't have ever read LotR
With what stuff, Boring? Don't follow you. Stuff like in LOTR? Or what? Smile Smilie

Plastic is a council member now? Who is he then? Smile Smilie[Edited on 7/2/2002 by TomBombadillo]
I think Boring meant all the bloody singing. And I've opted for the Jedi Council and am now (see below)
Grondy, I consider you a serious moderator. :P Grondy deleted the preceding light-sabre battle in order to be in comliance with the forgoing sentence which he also modified. Big Smile Smilie

Were there so many songs in the Hobbit? Can't remember much... I like the songs in LOTR though. Smile Smilie But I still don't get the point there... Sad Smilie
