Has anyone seen Ben Hur ?
It was my first film ever to see at the Movies
I actually have seen it. It was so old. It's in black and white right. I remember watching it in a class like in 8th grade or something.
The black and white version of Ben Hur was a 1925 silent film starring Ramon Novarro; the one in color was the 1959 version starring Charlton Heston for which he won an Academy Award. Both were great; especially the chariot races, except someone actually got run over and killed in the latter movie's race.
I saw this movie one too many times in Spanish class over the last 5 years. I made a pact with myself that I wouldn't see it for 2 years after graduation, in hopes that by doing so I would not dilute the 'goodness' that the movie might contain. The attitude that you posses can drastically affect your opinion of something; from what I recall it is a good movie though extraordinarily long and a bit cheesy at parts.
Yes... I have seen the Charleton Heston version... it's an epic, and of course really good, but also incredibly long. I have to go a fair length of time between times I see it.

Has anyone else heard of the animated version? It's cut short and a bit less violent and more sappy, but it has Charleton Heston's voice for Ben-Hur. We accidently happened upon it surfing the channels one time.... Thanksgiving or something, I think. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
