Thread: The Guide (not the project)

As the Hitchhickers Guide to the Galaxy is my second favorite series, i was wondering if anyone would like to talk of it
I know, or strongly think, that grondy at least has read The Guide because of his definition of "to froodie" Wiggle Smilie
"I demand that I may or may not be Vroomfondle!"
i would like to read the book but i have never been able to find it in the library.
Yes, Douglas Adams's five volume triolgy is very funny space opera. It can be compared to Terry Pratchett's 26 volume fantasy series about Diskworld or vise versa, as I assume the Guide came before Diskworld.

The books in the series are:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe
Life, the Universe, and Everything
Thanks and So Long for All the Fish
Mostly Harmless

Adams also wrote the short Story Young Zaphod Plays it Safe, which is like an after the fact prologue to the series.
That was a prolouge?! never would have guessed
I've only read it once, in an old roommates copy of the Complete Guide (yeah, they got 'im.) As I recall though, there's a little bit of foreshadowing in the short, if you can call it foreshadowing in the last entry (so far) in the series. I'm wondering if anything is being done to prevent a Last Tycoon like thing from happening, since I understand there was a manuscript in the works when the master passed.
What a coincidence. I just (two hours ago) finished listening to the audio version of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Oh yeah, it was rather amusing.
I'm curious of what they will make from it when they make it into a movie (believe it was due in winter this year, but I'm not sure).

Douglas Adams was really a guy who knew where his towel was.

If you want to read about or discuss the film, please do so by clicking on the following link HHGTTG - film discussion. Thanks Teacher Smilie
I'll put in my two cents and say Douglas Adams was a genius with a great and remarkable sense of humour, who wrote quite a few highly amusing books. I am still grateful to Grondy for introducing me to his works and can only recommend them to anyone else. They are, in short, Big Laugh Smilie . Apart from the HHGTTG series, he also wrote a few books (two, I think) on Dirk Gently, a rather conspicious private detective. The books are called Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. (off the top of my head, do please correct if wrong)

There is also "The Salmon of Doubt", a compilation of various of his writings, including part of a manuscript he was working on shortly before he died.

And then there is "The meaning of Liff" and "The deeper meaning of Liff", and a book of which I have forgotten the name, on threatened animal species, if I remember correctly.

As for his books, I like the Guide series best. High time I listened to the radio series, but they are quite hard to get hold of when you live in a rather forsaken part of the galaxy like I do.
