I'm just going by what the Professor wrote in his Index of Things found at the end of Return of the King, though in The Silmarillion it is spelled "Aeglos" and it definitely was a specific weapon in Tolkien's usage, no matter what the armourers called it. I will agree that "aegis" is a piece of armour usually a shield or breastplate. But it doesn't really matter for a hundred years from now neither of us will care and the Sun will still set in the West. Cheers! sorry Grondy, i know you probably know this but Aiglos is more like a glaive not a spear. ;_;
