Maybe if PJ makes lots of money on LotR he will do the Hobbit; however, the special effects to do the dragon and the eagles will cost a pretty penny, but he could probably pull it off by skipping Beorn and Rivendell. Meanwhile you could view the old musical cartoon version by Rankin-Bass.

For the dwarves I'd just cast some pudgy actors and then make the humans larger than life.

Yes the Hobbit could be a spectacular movie. Perhaps they can borrow the dragon props from Reign of Fire, they were pretty good.

I have always thought that, Chikakat. Because it was written for younger readers it's plot is less convoluted, keeps its core characters the same, is action packed throughout, and not overly long. It would adapt without change, except there is no love interest, so PJ might have to replace Thorin with Arwen (who would have to be content playing catch with a ten year old Aragorn)

Hopefully The Hobbit would be treated with the same respect as LotR (or even more so, because of the concerns that Rosie has pointed out).

I would love to see the Hobbit be made into a film as well. As I have recently stated in another thread, at this point, it seems like the Hobbit would be incredibly easy for PJ to make. He already has such a huge head start on the movie. The sets for Bag End, Rivendell, and Gollum’s cave are already there. The look, and location for the Misty Mountains has already been established. PJ also already has Gollum, Gwaihir, the Orcs, the Trolls, and the Wargs in the can, and obviously he could use the same actors for Gandalf, Bilbo, Elrond, and Gollum. It just seems like to me that half of the movie is almost already there.

On a slightly pessimistic note, the thought has occurred to me that New Line had to acquire the rights to the Hobbit so PJ could include the scene where Bilbo finds the ring in Gollum’s cave in FOTR. I do very much hope we get to see the Hobbit on the big screen someday though!

Don't know if I should admit this or not, but I have both the Hobbit, and ROTK by Rankin-Bass on DVD, and I still watch them all the time. I grew up on their version of the Hobbit, it was one of my favorite things in the world when I was a wee lad.

What about, "Frodo of the nine fingers, and the ring of doom", that's semi rocking, isn't it? With the wonders of modern movie making technology, and a lot of make up, Sir Ian Holm will be just fine. Besides isn’t that ol’ Ian in the scene in Gollum’s cave in FOTR?

they should make the Hobbit because that would mean more dwarves

Hmmmm... Like the first Star Wars Movie comes 32 years after the story NOW begins.... or the first Star Trek series is set close on 200 years AFTER the newest series....

I definately hope that the Hobbit is made, and it would be a great movie with all the effects involved...as long as they don't cast out beorn like they did old Tom.... and they don't ruin the film by making it too serious, i mean it was written as a childrens novel

I’ve heard that Peter Jackson is not gonna do the hobbit movie. he said that it wuld be too hard.
there will be way to many spesial effects for him.
he sais that some one else is shuld do it!

I just wanted to point out that for those of you who may have missed the article on the home page (which came from the Sidney Morning Herald), PJ has officially stated on the record that if he was asked to do The Hobbit he would give it serious consideration. I’m betting right now that he does make the movie! My guess is that we will see it 3 to 5 years after ROTK.

I agree with you. I was speaking to my mum the other day and said,"I`d love to be in a film like LOTR. I`ve taken drama exams and been in lots of shows so, hopefully, I`ll be in a creative film like that one day."
I`d like to work along side everyone from LOTR, but most of all LEGOLAS! SIGH.........

Yeah, it's worth a watch, and those who hated ep1 seem to much prefer ep2, I'm the other way round really. And Disc 2 has some really interesting docs on digital filming and effects even if you don't like the movie.

As for the LOTR movies being "creative films" I have to disagree, they are big business franchise movies made with the express purpose of pulling in a shedload of cash. Plus as they are using a book as a template, they're not really very creative movies at all, hardly Citizen kane is it?

That’s a great article about Sir Ian asking PJ for a Hobbit adaptation on the home page. I hadn't seen that yet, so thanks to whoever posted that one. I think I would still prefer a film version, but who knows, if done right, this TV series thing could be fantastic. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens that's for sure!

I would love to see them making a movie of The Hobbit!!! But if they are going to make it then I think they better make it fast because Ian Holm isn’t getting any younger.....But jolly me roger that would be a magnificient movie....although it most be a hard task creating a good Smaug.....I mean WOW great job on Sm’agol/Gollum but Smaug is big and he is in the book alot in the end....and what about the spiders, the trolls and the eagles!!! And not to forget about the giants throwing rocks... but I’d like to see that movie

Meeting only Legolas` father in TH was a little disappointing, because I couldn`t wait to meet Legolas and now I`ve got to wait until 'The Council Of Elrond' in FOTR. Oh well, it`s worth the wait. But I do hope that they make the hobbit, it`ll be an interesting film.
