Thread: The Hobbit.....The Movie

If they won't mess with it, as they've done with some (alas, too many!) parts of LotR, I don't see how they could ruin it. Let's hope for the best, Elfstone!
YES!!!! ME too!!!!! Just don't screw up, PJ. I think it's more hopeful for the hobbit as there's less of it and one doesn't feel the need to miss out so much.

I read that someone wanted Arwen in it... nasty idea. The same guy mention Aaragorn in it too, not a chance.... If PJ reads this, Make the damn movie, and keep it exactly as the book had it. I mean if it ain't broken, don't fix it! and i must say tolkien's work is far from broken, some will even call it a masterpiece! <--- i'm one of them
Aragorn was 10 years old in the year 2941, when the events of the Hobbit occurred. At that time, Arwen lived in Lothlorien, and we all know that Gandalf, Bilbo, and Co didn't come there.
So basically, if Aragorn and Arwen will be in the movie, i'll really have to congratulate PJ again. But even i think PJ ain't that stupid.
He'll probably make it a horror/action movie, with the spiders/wargs/Smaug and the battle of the five armies and stuff, with only a remote link to the books. That's the best plan if he wants to cash in on the success of his previous flicks.

ok i heard the rumour awhile back that Ian McKellen died, but i take it this isn't true?
I reckon, seeing as PJ specialises in horror movies (he did lots before he did LOTR, they say you couldn't emntion some of his movies without saying the word 'blood') he would emphasise the baddies and the creepy bits. And perhaps add some of his own. But let's just hope the others on the crew for writing the script and checking it and all that will talk him out of it.

*apologises

It has a bit under 19700 'Signatures'.

Here's a better link : http://www.figwitlives.net!!!
As Figwit is the Legolas for the thinking women, i'd say : "Ladies, charge!".

Her were-bear talents allow her to rule the lands around the Carrock witha tight fist. Any other suggestions? I don't think female trolls would really fill the Bill - so to speak.

Female dwarves look like male dwarves, but I really like Beorna. A lot of potential to create a strong, independent but of course attractive woman. Though her name should be Birna. Beorn is too close to the Norse word for bear 'bjorn' (present day Norwegian: bj’rn) to be accidental, and a female bear in Norse was 'birna'.
Oh I hope they never do any of this. *lol*

They can just borrow the dragon from Shrek for Smaugina or Smaugette. Just change her colour a bit. Would save them a lot of work, don't you think?
It might save them the work but then think about the lawyers of both the firms who'll be working overtime after the movie has come out.

I don't know, they might even have a wife of King Thingol and maybe they could show a young Legolas surfing on the waters on the Long Lake.
I can't believe I missed this for more than a year, but King Thingol?! Make that King Thranduil.
I agree with Legolas and the Blue Crush thing.

And for the surfing Legoloas, add a Kool-Aid man behind him.

As for The Hobbit : PJ won't fool me again, I shan't even go and see it, if that monstrosity is ever made. I'd rather set eyes on Medusa.

I'd rather set eyes on Medusa
Medusa? Like a jellyfish?

(Please don't take the above as personal; it is all meant in good hearted fun. )

Ok, sure PJ did a lot of things that he shouldn't have when addapting LotR for cinema, but I sincerely doubt any other hollywood director would do better; and for the sake of consistency I really hope they resolve their differences like grown-ups (not that that means much these days).
So with all that in mind I must say that I'm pro PJ for the Hobbit movie - and New Line are apparently a couple of fries short of a happy meal!

David Lynch would've delivered an adaptation faithful to the spirit of the book, unlike PJ's, which is accentuated around action and humour. It's like PJ made a more dark version of Willow.
Lynch made Dune which is very faithful to the book even though the dire lack of resources Lynch had to work with.

I don't know if PJ could now get away with making the Elves of Rivendell as playful and small as I imagined them upon reading The Hobbit.

Hello! I have recently started work on a new about the Hobbit movie, it is still under construction, but please come and take a look at what I've done so far and post some comments!
Here is the link, do please go on it!!!
P.S are elves small, I read they were playful, but certainly not small, let me check.......
It really dosen't say they are small, indeed, they also, in the book at least, seem to be warriors, and also scholars, I don't know where you got small from...

Im hoping that PJ casts children as the Imladris welcoming Elves, sort of naughty beautiful children singing the Tra La La Lally lines, it will seem less naff than a group of adults skipping around teasing the Dwarves.
Yes, but I, for some reason, do not think they will appear.
* At all.

Since tallness came up: one of the Elves is even noted as tall when the Dwarves arrive.
Over the years Tolkien appears to have changed his mind about the stature of his Elves, at least in relation to Men. I've never specifically looked into the 'Silmarillion texts' of the period concerned (about the time The Hobbit was written) to see if there's any indication of how tall the Quendi were imagined then...
... but late texts have them quite tall! and so these heights arguably become descriptive for the Elves of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and Silmarillion of course.
At least quite tall by our standards today.
