You can do if you want, it causes me no beef! I could pull the same people saying the same old rubbish on numerous occasions. However the censership is in place and some of the time against me included it is a good thing, however alot of the time it is a pointless practice. Family friendly, is that as long as you are a practicing christian from a cosy suburb?

I think I'll love ROTK, there will surtenly be times while watching it I will feel like screaming "WHAT have they DONE?? Aaaaargh!!" But most of the time I'll be sitting with stars in my eyes watching the world I love come to life in the darkness. It won't be perfect, but it will be perfect enough. Oooh I can't wait!!!

I have seen the shelob-part in the trailer and that already wasn't like it was in the book. First the hobbits are supposed to see eyes only, no body or whatsoever, and after Frodo chased them away using the phial of Galadriel they manage to get out of Shelob's lair. Then Frodo gets a bit emotional, thinks he made it and then BLAM.

Anyway, i don't think i am going to like Rotk movie. It's my guess the story of the book won't be followed at all. I've yet to see if there will be no paths of the dead or no scouring of the shire or 30 marriages in the end or no Prince Imrahil, etc etc but : where there is smoke, there is fire.

But i hope that Gimli won't continue in Rotk movie with spraying around terrible jokes while he is chopping orcwood at the pelennor fields - and i wonder how Aragorn and his mates are going to reach the Pelennor. (by horse you say? neat)

I have seen in the trailer Arwen is back too unfortunately, and that she is going to convince Elrond - her reluctant father - to hand Narsil over to Aragorn. So i am wondering whether there will be a Banner and a Halbarad ("you bring great danger coming in here, Bannerbearer") in RoTK movie. I don't think so.

So, Rotk will again be not following the story of the book and will again be a parody of the book (and a not funny one, whether or not how many Elf jokes Gimli tells).

Lucky for us, the Oscar jury have read the books.

but seriously....I don’t really think that PJ can give me any satisfaction....since he has already ruined the whole concept of making LoTR into a movie for me I will forever stay to the books......but rest assure...I will see it for 2 reasons....#1: to be able to critise is too hehehhe
#2(and the most important one) : I promised me best mate to see it with him and me other mates and my word is as solid as the foundation of Arda....

But what you said bout the upcoming rotk movies, also counts for the two previous blasphemic hollywoodian monstruosities.

Lol, well I'm no longer that pessimistic; from what I've heard it's started to shape up a bit.

The only reason i will go and see Rotk is because i am curious how PJ is gonna solve the Arwen-Aragorn mess.

Because in TTT apparently, Arwen is leaving and not leaving for the grey havens... (Hugo Weaving should get an Oscar for the frown he's able to pull off then) while in Rotk trailer she's suddenly nagging on Elrond to give Anduril to Aragorn.... curious.

This is the only reason for me to stay tuned.

PJ really made a hilarious LOTR parody, due to all the plot and character changes and lame humour but once you're able to accept for yourself that you should separate it from the books one way or another and once you are able to fool yourself with the idea that PJ didn't ruin it on purpose, claiming to be such a huge Tolkien fan, well then you can watch it without having the idea PJ is getting away with something.
In one word or more : empty your mind, forget the books, watch the movies. Hollywood recipe. Perhaps then you'll like it. Strange this doesn't apply to me, though.

Likewise, Plastic. I just enjoy them for what they are. I find it frustrating when they move away from the plot (and don't forget I do tend to live and breath Tolkien), but I accept that is inevitable. I'd far rather have the option of being able to see them than not.

Okay there's a lot of people going to see them who will perhaps never read the books, and who will believe Arwen is some cool warrior chick, and that Faramir wasn't too disimilar to his brother etc, but that is their loss. When I heard a young girl in cinema behind me enthusing to her father how Legolas is really the lost king who will save the world in the end, I felt like shouting at her to go out and read the books. There was no need though. At some stage someone else will do that, or at least she will be deeply disappointed in the RotK when she sees it next month.

The thing is, I don't begrudge people the pleasure they get from watching these movies. They were made for entertainment, and that is what they are providing. Hopefully many of those people watching the films will then be tempted to read the books, and will come back and say, "Wow, loved the film, but the books are better."

It feels like it's been a little while since I've said this, so for the sake of keeping tradition alive, I couldn't possibly agree with you more Val! In short, you've absolutley summed up my feelings (not that I haven't previously made them known).

I also get frustrated when PJ's films move away from the original source, and there are many things that bother me, but I too can understand that at some level (in the film medium) this is like you said, inevitable. And as I've said countless times, if you break it down though, the positives in the films do by far outweigh the negatives.

I too would far rather have the option of being able to see them than not have them at all, and at the end of the day, that's what solves the ultimate debate for me.



Excellent point Andrea, and as I've said in the past, if nothing else, PJ does deserve some credit for taking on a nearly impossible task.

Ha ha! Those are my favourite moments in the Cinema, listening to those who know nothing, spout utter lies. I like to turn around and add to the lies, spreading disinformation among the nations youth. I hope to hear some of my lies come back to me as canonical info soon. It's happened before on other subjects...

Actually, Aragorn did use his bow in FOTR during the scene in Moria where the Orcs attacked them in Balin's Tomb. And we can see from the ROTK trailer already, that Elrond will bring Anduril to Aragorn after it was reforged.
Also, from the ROTK photo guide, there are some pictures of Pippin and the palantir, but there's no guarantee it will appear in the theatrical version, maybe in the EE.
