Thread: What is going to be like???

I have really enjoyed both movies, even though I've read the trilogy six times, know it almost by heart, and disagreed with many of the changes. The point is, I've already created my vision of LOTR, and I loved PJ's. They are (as I remember posting a long time ago) different artistic languages, so they can't be the same. This isn't the "visual version" of a book, this is a movie, BASED on a book. I'm guessing ROTK will be amazing, as the other two were to me, but that won't keep me from reading the books again, and enjoying every word on them, as I've enjoyed every image in the movies. The only thing I really disagree with is Arwen, not because of the idea, but because of Liv Tyler, who I think is too week an actress to make you get into her role. I just didn't buy the "warrior" Arwen. I think she works fine playing the loving-passive-elf, but when it comes to showing a more powerful attitude, I just don't buy it. For a movie like this, you need a very believable cast, so you won't start questioning everything you see, since it's placed into a fantasy world you NEED to have someone as great as Ian Mckellen or Cate Blanchett to believe without question. Those are actors, and PJ is an amazing director, who I completely trust in terms of expecting a great movie, once again
I'm with you on that one, negra. There were changes that niggled me with the first one, mainly the added screen time given to Arwen, but as films, I thought they were both wonderful. No doubt RotK will have parts which will send the purist's blood running, particularly if there is no Scouring of the Shire, or if Aragorn ends up one to one with Sauron, but it will be a great film whatever.
I have one word to answer Cale`s quessie: BRILLIANT! Tongue Smilie
Someone PLEASE tel me that PJ just er... moved the Pippin/palant’r scene rather thatn flushing it!
I don`t kno, sry Arco, I haven`t read the books so I don`t know wot I`m gonna c in the film...but I am looking forward to seeing it! is any1 not goin 2 c it?
From what I have heard, PJ only moved it to the last film.

I watched the first 2 so I think I'll watch the 3rd one,you know live through it. Wink Smilie
According to popular rumour, Elladan and Elrohir are not in. Very Sad Smilie Very Sad Smilie Very Sad Smilie

My daughter is looking forward to the wedding. I hope there is going to be one!
do Aragorn and Arwen get married?
Yup Sheryl, from what I hear they do Big Smile Smilie
Elladan and Elrohir won't be in??? Mad Smilie That sucks...They are my favourite caracters in the third movie... Despite that I will be seing it ...Really looking forward to it
Smoke Smilie
’Don’t know if I’ll see it....I do not want to.....it is a disgrace to the Tolkien family.....I shall not contribute to PJ’s income.....only if I get it for free then I will see it!
But I know that I will hate it....I truly will hate it!
Then don't watch it, Aule. At least then people who actually enjoy it for what it is won't have to read such negativity all the time.
I can hardly wait to see it.

If our 'Negative Trio' decide to boycott it, that leaves more room for the rest of us and only hurts them, because if they haven't seen the movie, their individul pans of it won't hold any water and may be removed for lack of credibility. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
Sorry I will watch it just so that I can criticise it in an informed manner.
Even if i wasn't going to watch it (which i thought of doing until now), Grondmaster just gave me a reason to watch it in his previous post.

Seeing it will probably cause my own death and it doesn't worth watching it, but as a defender of Tolkien's work i am obliged to watch it, whatever the cost.
True that is that what Grondy wrote.....that means I must see it to do as Ross said:
Quote:
......so that I can criticise it in an informed manner.

So I must see it....although I am certain that I will be disgusted by the movies.....but never will I be able to like it....neither surrender to the wish of Val....there will always be an opposite to all things......Wink Smilie
To Ross, virumor, and Aule, I can completely accept, and appreciate the fact that you guys don’t like the movies, and hate PJ. Honestly I’m glad that there are hardcore defenders of the faith out there preaching the truth of the books. All in all (whether you guys believe it or not), I’m probably a bigger purist than all three of you when it really comes down to it, but the difference between us is that I can separate the films from the books, and understand the working differences between the two. I’m not a PJ hater, but I’m not a PJ worshipper either.

The bottom line is that these films are by far the best attempt anyone has ever made at making LOTR into movies, and I highly doubt anyone will ever try to make LOTR into films again. Like it or not, this is most likely the best we will ever get, and as a huge Tolkien fanatic, I for one would rather have them (for the good things), as opposed to not having them at all. Sure I have my gripes, and some things that bother me, but I could say that about any movie that’s ever been made from a book, and so can everyone else.

When the dust finally settles, and we can take all three SEE DVD’s together collectively as a whole (not the theatrical versions, because they fail in comparison to the SEE’s), I think even the most negative of us will be able to see that collectively, all three films do actually follow the books reasonably well as a whole. The positives, and the things PJ and Co. got right by far outweigh the list of negatives, and again, I’d rather have the joy of having those things than having nothing at all.

I heard there would be three weddings.

What would you say if I told u Gandalf went to fight the Lord of the Ringwraiths on Gwaihir above the city of Minas Tirith? And the Witch-king emulated this intense aura of darkness, while Gandalf shone like pure light. And their winged 'steeds' dove at each other, and they fought with staffs and swords.

I just wanted to know what some people would think if something like that happened. I mean, even though it's different (very different) from the book, I think it would be OK. Not that it's as good as Tolkien's fight with Eowyn, Merry, and Angmar (I'll just call him this).

Wait! Actually, that coud fit in. In the book, Gandalf and Angmar confront each other and fight. (on land) Sooo, PJ willing, something like that could happen if he stretched the event. But I DO NOT THINK THIS WILL BE IN THE MOVIE. It's only a rumor I heard. Any ideas?

Sam and Frodo get married then, hooray!

I'd say yes please, that would be very, very cool to see. Knackers to the books, I wanna see a cool movie.

Rubbish I think the Ralph Baski was better than the new ones. These ones are designed for nothing more than a quick buck. I know some people who work for a games workshop they had to apologise about the return of the king game as they made it to close to the book and it was in parts nothing like the film. This just goes to prove that PJ is a money grabbing gimp that should be strung up by the gribblets.

Maybe PJ has decided to make it more upto-date and ads a gay-wedding instead of the third wedding mentioned in the book (if you don't know who it is, I won't tell). You never know with PJ! Wink Smilie Ha Ha Ha Smilie
PJ is real pragmatic : after Aragorn's double date in TTT with Arwen/horse and Eowyn our most valiant LoTR dude also gets a double wedding.

Everyone who knows anything knows* that PJ's three weddings will be Aragorn to Th’oded's horse, Gandalf to Ioreth, and finally Ted Sandyman to Rosie Cotton. Cool Elf Smilie

In some ways, yes, but he also cut bits out and changed bits for very little reason. I love the Bakshi movie, but it is awful rushed in places as if they're just trying to get you to the next bit as quickly as possible. Also, a lot of it looks terrible and a bit Disney (unforgivable) plus Merry and Pippin actualy DO change over half way through (watch carefully next time, it's true honest). I'm afraid that Jackson has made the better movie, though less faithful to the book (which Bakshi failed to be as well, Legolas instead of Glorfindel remember).

Not PJ, New Line cinema are to blame, it's the studios that always make directors go back and change books drastically to meet the modern movie-going publics cr@ppy demands. Much as I've always liked you Ross mate, it's only a movie, and a pretty d@mn good one at that. Name me one movie that stuck exactly to the book, there aren't any, none at all. So quit whining and let the rest of us enjoy the ****ing movie will ya?

Cat in the hat and the MR Men ones. Also Thomas and his friends on the islands of Sodor. Wink Smilie
Yes I remeber the Legolas bit. I never once said it was perfect I just said it was better.

Actually they changed some of the MR Men ones...

Great point Plastic, and 100% true! I’ve said the same thing in a few of the threads on this site before. At the end of the day it’s New Line, not PJ who have the final say. Anyone who has read any interviews with PJ knows that New Line has forced him to make an awful lot of concessions with the films. That’s why I’ve always said that if PJ had his way, each one of the films would have been 4+ hours in length, and the theatrical versions of the films would have been basically the SEE’s.

Everyone who has seen the SEE of LOTR (even people who haven’t read the books) knows that the SEE is far superior to the theatrical version. Everything they put back into the SEE’s is all stuff that’s straight from the books. Like I said in my previous post, I think when we can take all 3 SEE’s together collectively as a whole, people are going to see that the films have in fact followed the books reasonably well. I don’t agree with, or like everything PJ has done, but overall he has done an outstanding job with the films. If the bashers want to blame someone, blame New Line not PJ, because that’s where the blame ultimately rests.
Elf Smilie
PJ made a good movie? No....he made a lousy movie....people can blame it on New Line Cinema how much they like....but finally it IS PJ to blame since he bent before their demands and also wrote a script that does not connect to LoTR except for the title......

And I will not be silenced by anyone....since I cannot silence you PJ lovers.....so I shall say these 3 words: PJ is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!
I have seen the extended edition and that was just as bad. The only difference being it was longer, with yet more mistakes to annoy me.
wow what can I say about PJ work after Aule AND Ross??? Big Laugh Smilie Just this:I thin it will be really good, even better than the first two ...Can't wait!!! Wink Smilie
It's not that PJ hasn't made three good films. He has however, made three really bad LOTR films, if you see the difference. If the title of the movies were changed to Lord of the Things, or equivalent, I would have nothing but compliments for PJ.
Well this is what i can say about PJ ******* complete ******** who ***** ********* ***** and **** **** **** **********! Wink Smilie
Hahahahhahahaha....I hear you Ross and I agree....he is a ****** and a ****** and his movies are just ********

Peredhil have we finally converted you? Or have you always been there in the shadows waiting to release some pressure?Wink Smilie
I'd like to release some pressure too, but I'm not thinking about the movies... *counts to ten thousand trying not to explode*
Hahhahahahha.......that’s ok Amari’....let go of the pressure.....reveal to us how much you despise the moviesTongue Smilie hahahahhaWink Smilie
You're trying to pull everyone into the dark side aren't you? Wink Smilie
The dark side always fails. Haven't you read Lord of the Rings good enough Aul’ to know you can't win? Wink Smilie

I could say the same about you guys, either say something constructive, or fuck off and leave these threads alone, you're starting to get right on my tits with all this PJ bashing, it's not big or clever, we've heard it all before and we're fed up of it. Now either shut the fuck up, or I will personally edit your posts into complete obscurity.

Quite right! I hope that's taught you never to pick on a stupid midget.

This has got to be worth Post of the Week Smile Smilie

I'm a great believer in the freedom of speech (and I know Squirrel is too). Council members have the power to edit or remove posts if we so wish, but we exercise that power for the benefit of the site rather than our own whims. I think if we removed everything we didn't personally like, the forum would look very different to what it does now days (and we'd probably not have many members either because nobody would want to come here).

Saying that, I think Squirrel voiced what many others are thinking. By now we all know that Ross, Virumor and Aule dislike the movies. I don't think anyone will ever forget that they dislike the movies, because we've all had it rammed down our throats so many times. Seriously, guys, there is no need to keep telling us. There is no need to reply in triplicate everytime someone else praises the movies. Like I said in another post somewhere, shouting loudly and often isn't going to make anyone change their opinion on the movies either.

I've absolutely no problem with someone giving constructive critisisms to the movies, or saying they don't like them for whatever reason, but it does bug me when I've spent a minute downloading a page, only to find the same old rantings that I've read over and over again. Like I said earlier, I have the power at my fingertips to remove such posts (as does Squirrel), but we haven't done. We've allowed you to have your say. Now I'm asking you politely to be a little less loud.

I'm not gagging any of you, or threatening to erase your posts. I'm just saying, we all know your opinions by now and are getting fed up of having to keep reading them. By all means critisize with something that is new or constructive, but for the sake of everyone else, lose the negativity. All three of you have so much to offer that is positive.

Thank you.
I never ever have made a post in which i personally attacked PJ saying he's a ********* or something. i've always tried to criticize the movies in a constructive way. i never said anything like "i hate the movies, so you guys hate them too or you aren't real tolkienites". but it's ok, i wouldn't have any problem if u erased all my posts concerning the movies.

i've already wasted too much energy in making **** posts about the movies. i've been too narrow-minded and acted like a ****. i apologize for this. It are just movies, nothing more, nothing less. The world won't be better off with or without them. the whole purpose of the movies and all movies is just to make ppl forget that the world they live in, is the opposite of heaven.

so in future, i won't try to take that away from you ppl, anymore. Mea culpa.
Maybe people that just have negative things to say about the movies wait 'till Return of The King comes out?

I'll back that! Elf Winking Smilie

Amen to the Squirrel, and amen to Val, both of your posts are much appreciated, and extremely warranted under these circumstances!

virumor, Ross, and Aule, personally I have no problem with you guys. I know that you love the books, and that you love Tolkien, and I can respect the fact that you guys don’t like the movies, but all of the negativity over and over again is getting old.

In all fairness though, I think that you guys should be allowed to voice your opinions, so my suggestion would be to start your own anti LOTR movies/anti PJ thread. That way you guys can continue your conversations about hating the movies, and about hating PJ, and anyone else who feels the same is welcome to join you guys there.

OK seems like you didn't read my last post.
Charming.
I read your last post virumor, and I appreciated what you had to say. Thank you for that!

ok, it's just that if someone would make a antimovie/anti pj thread, i would never post there. waste of time.

I know what you mean Virumor, it would be like preaching to the choir. You can't have a one-sided discussion.

That said, I have to agree with Plastic's and Val's comments.

Ahh but it's ok for us all to get the constructive praise rammed down our throats. Such highly constructive and intelligent conversational pieces as "The Lord of the Rings films are great and so is Peter Jackson, because he used Orlando Bloom!"
Are you going to edit all them no, so why not have the policy of each to there own!
Why are we all trying to convince each other the movies are bad or good? Can’t we just accept our differences. Liking or disliking the movies is just a matter of taste, it doesn’t make anyone good, bad or stupid. The movies are different from the book, that’s something we all agree on. For me personally, the movies take me to a different world, a world that is presented realistic enough to make me believe it actually existed or still exists somewhere. So far, only Star Wars could convince me in that way. For others the movies do not have that effect. I can understand that. And I do think when you’ve seen the movies over and over again, up to 50 times like some of us, they lose part of their magic. Too much is never good. When you read the books, it takes some time to finish the whole story and as for me, when I finish the book, I can’t start reading it again the next day. I need some time to let it all come to rest again and think things over in my mind. After a few weeks or months, I can start reading it again. Also reading the books, makes you creating the images yourself, they are your own imagination and will certainly differ from how other people see them. And because it takes more time to read the story, you spend more time in the world you created in your mind. Movies on the other hand are faster. You can see them all in one day if you want. If you watch them several times a week or a month, I think it’s quite normal you get enough of them. Also images are presented to you in a rather fast sequence. You don’t have to create them yourself and you spend less time in the imaginary world and they conflict with the world you had in your mind. All I’m trying to say is that books and movies give you a different approach of the same world and even if the story would be told the same way, without the changes, they would still be different and there would still be people liking or disliking them. Ross and Aule, please try not to see things so extreme negative. Don’t throw things away only because it’s not how you imagined it, because you risk missing some good idea’s or different point of views. I never felt sorry for Gollum, until I saw the movies and I didn’t like Gandalf until I saw the movies. Open up for other people’s point of view. This doesn’t mean you have to agree with it. But your posts are becoming more and more negative, sometimes I get the feeling you are breaking down posts of people who like the movies and then you risk hurting people without meaning to. This can’t be your intention, right. I don’t have much time to spend at PT, so I don’t know you so well, except from the anti-PJ posts, but I would love to learn more about you.
