Darn, I am such a weirdo.
I cry from movies, especially on places noone else cries. I even cried from Bruce Almighty, but Disneys the Lion King didn't even make my eyes water. Belive me, I'm a lot wierder than any of you! Elk Grinning Smilie And yes I did cry at the end of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. The poor thing didn't even get a name! Very Sad Smilie

But a movie that really made me cry was an italian movie, the good life or something like that. A true story about a jewish father and his little son in a nazi prisoner camp and how he uses all his strenght to the very end of his life to protects his son from the awful truth, making him think its a game, if he just keeps away from the soliders, don't cry, don't complain about being hungry, they'll win and get a price. people don't die, they go home because they are out of the game, they don't make soap out of jews, people just say stuff like that to make you give up and go home.. I'm not explaining it well but I cried buckets and rivers at the end.

There was no need to show piles of dead bodies here, we all know what happend in these camps. We know they made lamp shades from the skin and pillows from the hair.. We know what the father is hiding from his son to keep him alive and to keep his spirit up. It was so beautiful and so sad.. Very Sad Smilie

I agree. I haven't seen this movie, but now I really want to. Shlindlers List (probaly spelt wrong) made me cry, we were FORCED to watch it during our history classes at High School and it had everyone, even the tough guys crying. Actualy, one girl was sick during the movie. Sad Smilie The thing was, halfway through the movie we couldn't bear to watch anymore and when we told our teacher she thretened us with detention. On the bright side, I think we really learnt something that lesson.

Yes, i have seen that movie too. La vita ’ bella it's called in Italian. Good movie, it won an Oscar too - Roberto Benigni is a fine actor.
Sad Smilie Maybe I'll cry if PJ in his great wisdom makes Theoden die. Elf Sticking Tounge Out Smilie (When I've read that battle in the book, tears have come to my eyes.)

Me and the bro always get abit teary eyed when ol' Optimus Prime dies in Transformers The Movies. and thats the only time
"The Gladiator" still makes me cry (or almost...) each time I see when after the death of Maximus his gladiator friend buries these little figures of his family in that shallow grave in the sand. And "Farinelli" makes me cry during the scene in which his brother is making love with his wife to give to his brother, who has been castrated in chidlchood for his sake, the possibility of having a child and a normal, whole family.
As for war movies, I still did not see "The Pianist" of Polanski, but everybody who saw it keeps telling that it is much better aned closer to truth than "Schindler's list".
I don't think that I have ever cried over any film.

That might stem from the fact that I don't watch many movies! Wink Smilie
My friend can't understand why I laughed at the end of the Titanic movie, instead of crying like she did. Leo's cheesy death scene has me in fits 'o' giggles everytime I see it. Leo the human ice-cube!
I'm ashamed to say I cryed at the end of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, when Allan Quartermain snuffed it. I also got quite upset when I thought Doctor Jekyll and Captin Nemo (Arr laddie! Have ye seen me parrot!?) were gonna get eatten by the big Mr Hyde wannabe-clone-guy.
I also cryed during Lilo & Stitch! Disturbed Smilie
In "Its a Wonderful Life",when the angel gets it wings I was blubbering all over the place Tongue Smilie

CRIED! I was asked to leave the theater! Big Laugh Smilie
Same with Finding Nemo and Brother Bear... my goodness is it just me or are Disney movies getting sappier and sappier?
The Pianist, Braveheart and Gladiator were pretty sad movies; they (and Sweet November) were the only ones that could squeeze a tear from my eyes!

Namarie!
I can’t remember really which movie but there is one where I can’t hold my tears back....hmmm...it is propably Zoolander when Zoolander does an atomic selfwedgieTongue Smilie *ouch*....hehehhehehe....no but seriously I can’t remember which movie it is that always gives me tears....
I cried relentlessly most of the way through the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie
"What have they done? Why? Why would they do that to my beloved comics? Why?" *sniff sniff*

And I'm with Darous on the Optimus Prime thing.
Yes Ama, I've seen that movie to (Life is Good) and I do shed a tear or two, it's a fantastic movie! One of my favourites.

Does count that I cried over how hot the guy in The Pianist was? Wink Smilie
I blubbered up last night when Haldir and the Elves marched into Helm's Deep in the Extended Eddition TTT DVD. It was probably the music, right? Elf Rolling Eyes Smilie
Tiatnic n Mighty Joe Young! Mighty Joe Young is worse tho! I had a box of tissues next to me n I used ALL of them! NO jokin! Very Sad Smilie
The Pianist also got me flowing, just so cruel. Sad Smilie
A lot of movies make me cry. I cried a little but not very much when Boromir died in FotR. This is probably because I love that scene so much I don't find it sad anymore. When I was little, I could not watch Bambi because it made me cry too much and because it gave me nightmares. The movie of Little Women makes me cry too.
I have never seen The Pianist but I want to.

There, there Plastic! *hugs the trumatised squirrel* I know how you feel, they really messed up the charicters. After all, Nemo wasn't grumpy enough, they didn't find the invisible man in an all girls school and Mr Hyde was waaaaay to friendly. You didn't get to see him bite anyones face/stomach/arms/legs off.
Oh, and Dr Jekyll was way too happy.

It was a good movie though....

I know what you mean. My little cousen didn't believe her mum when she told her LotR was a set of books. Mad Smilie
One movie I will probaly cry through, when it finaly comes out, will be the movies their makeing of Michael Moorcock's Elric books. I heard a rumor that their gonna start filming next year! Yay! I'm so happy! Hazzah for big soul sucking swords!
I almost cried during TTT because I kept repeating, "Oh when will this end?"
In contrast, I loved movie FotR, and the music made me think it would end after the Council, and I was pleasantly surprised when it continued for more time. In TTT... I got bored as **** in some of the scenes, whereas seeing it on DVD brings out the better of theses scenes in my opinion. Like Treebeard and Merry / Pippin.
Oh thats it, nice one Arcormacolind’va. Tell me how great the DVD is when I can't afford a DVD player! You've made me all depressed now! Very Sad Smilie
As revenge I shall pent you with fish! *throws a tin of tuna at Arcormacolind’va *Disturbed Smilie
Ok, movies that make us cry? I would definately have to say The Two Towers. Call me crazy *crowd of people call out: You're Crazy* Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. NEwho, TTT is one of the only movies that make me cry. In what part you ask? When they kill my RPG character's father and my favorite character, Haldir. It sounds corny, I know. But I can't help it. I can't watch that part without crying. And the danged music doesn't help!!!!
Sad Smilie Poor old Haldir
Actually, if I remember rightly he didn't die at Helms Deep in the books. In fact if I remember rightly, he didn't die at all.
*continues to throw cans of tuna at Arcormacolind’va*
I cry during most movies. (I know, I'm a s*cker.)

La Vie Est Belle is a beautiful movie. I cried during the entire thing. Same with White Oleander.

I haven't seen Schindler's List, but perhaps I should. I feel like a night of movies that makes me cry soon. Perhaps I can convince Mellie and DragonReach...
I know that I usually cry during sad parts in movies...such as the scene in Chocolate when you think the little girl has died.

Did anyone at all cry sometime during Matirx Revolutions? I didn’t, since I felt it wasn’t that sad eventhough it felt as if it should have been. For those who has seen it you might get what I’m talking about. I’m trying not to reveal anything....
How can anyone cry at movies? They're not real. I don't understand it.
Well, perhaps you cry in movies because they touch subjects you feel related to. Or perhaps you cry because you need a touch of sensibility in your ordinary life, and it is much easier just going to a movie and cry some and then leave it at that, thankful that whatever happened in the movie did not happen to you or that you should be happy with what you've got.
Crying is a natural part of being human. I know times when I feel like watching a really sad movie and just cry, all the way through. It's easier to cry because of movies, you don't have to cry for something in your real life, if you know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure I explained this very good. Tongue Smilie
Anyway, I still think that we should cry during movies. It helps to cry, you feel relieved afterwards. So people, get your tissues out and cry! Very Sad Smilie
Quote:

Actually, it's not the movie which makes a person cry. It's the person himself/herself which makes themselves cry. The movie's just a cover. That's generally right, but of course, sometimes there are exceptions. I don't get those people too.
Well, I cried when watching the movie "The man without a face". That boy was almost like my character and I cold feel wat he was going thru. So I cried! Wink Smilie

It's the same when people cry when they read books. The stories and characters might not be real but when it's written well enough it can cause the reader to feel emotional, like a good movie can.

I still don't get it. Like I've said elsewhere though, I'm heartless.

Elementary my dear Watson! Smile Smilie When the movies are well done, they trigger in our brains the same neural events as real-like phenomena. Some books do that, too, for some persons at least. And some persons are so heartless that even real life phenomena trigger no emotions in their brains! They are sometimes called the psychopaths, but this is such a pejorative expression - and many of these "heartless" people are very decent, honest, reliable - only not easily stirred...
Quote:
only not easily stirred...
Sounds like me, Eryan. I cannot remember the last time I got upset by something which did not personally effect me. When bad things happen elsewhere, I just find them interesting. Unless they actually happen to myself or someone I am close to, I tend not to feel any emotions.

I think it may be down to television. World news is just not real to me anymore. It shows up on the same screen as the films I watch and very rarely has any effect at all on my own life. Big events like September 22nd, Wars, the death of Princess Diana etc were just things I found interesting.... they were just too remote to be upsetting.

Like I said, I think I'm heartless in that respect. I wouldn't say I'm a psychopath though. To people I care about, I try to be a warm and generous person. Maybe I'm just too self-centered.
It's evident that you are a warm person Val and that you care for the feelings of others!
Returning to the films, I just wonder, if you do not feel emotions while watching them, what sort of pleasure do you find in them? Only curiosity what next, and/or aesthetic pleasure? And what about music? Doesn't it stir you as well?
It's ridiculous, but after a week I still find tears running down my cheeks when I listen to Annie Lennox sing 'Into the West'. And that is without yet seeing the movie's heart-breaking ending to reinforce those visions of Legolas, Arwen, Sam, and Frodo, that the lyrics invoke in my imagination. Still Howard Shore's beautiful melody and accompaniment have had some bearing toward turning it into a tear-jerker that it is. Or am I just maudlin?

Some movies are made about things that really happened. The actors in the movies are indeed only actors, but when they present to us what really happened to other people, it isn't just a movie anymore. I get tears mostly when children or animals are involved or when I see terrible things happen to normal, regular people. Like in Titanic I was very moved by the scene where a family from the third class is lying on their beds with the water rising and nowhere to go. It's always like it' s happening to me. Imagine being a mother in a room which is filling with water, having to watch your children die and knowing you can't save them. Or the story about a mother in WWII having to make a choice between her two children. Only one she is alowed to keep, the other will be killed and burned. How to make a choice like that!
I have severla movies I can't watch again because they are too sad and I have at least two books I never finished because I couldn't handle the story any longer.
When I was a kid, I cried my eyes out in the cinema after watching 'Beaches'. Sounds so silly now, but it really hit me!

There is one Australian short film that makes me cry even to think about it and I can't remember the name! Set in 1920's, it is about a little girl who wanders off from her parents home in the middle of the outback. The parents are too prejudiced to enlist an aboriginal tracker for help with tragic consequences. The themesong "Such Small Bones" has haunted me ever since. I will never forget that movie as long as I live. Very Sad Smilie Very Sad Smilie

Don't be daft Vampyr. I'm sure your a sweetie really. Smile Smilie

I know its not a film, but does anyone remember the origional He-Man cartoon? I was only little when I used to watch that. And I always used to cry when Skelletor got beaten up. Poor old Bone Bonce. Sad Smilie

I wouldn't go as far as to say I do not feel emotions while watching movies, just that I don't find myself moved to tears by them. Scenes of heroism and sacrifice I do find quite moving, but not enough to cry over. Death scenes, however, very rarely do anything for me.

This is maybe the difference. I tend not to place myself inside the movie. I don't look at the dying jews in Schindlers List and think it could be my family. It would be a terrible choice to have to choose between two people you love knowing one was going to be killed, but that is not a thought I tend to dwell on. If it ever happened, I'd worry about it then. I try not to dwell on such things unnecessarily.

I think I'm just adept at diverting my emotions. Unless it really is something that's about to effect myself or my loved ones, I don't worry about it.

The way you expressed your feelings are very interesting madam. I mean all that "turning to dust" and stuff in the Khazad-Dumish inn

I do remember that. I liked Skelletor as well. Also there was a little magician guy who looked like Star Wars Jawa's. I think he always cast the wrong spell right? The only chararacter in that cartoon i didn't like was He-Man! Big Smile Smilie
Returning to the questions of emotions evoked by movies or by real facts which do not concern us directly, it is fully possible to realize the horror of the situation without actually feeling strong emotions. I like very much to watch docymentary films on underwater life (coral reef and such). Coral reefs seem for me breathtakingly beautiful, real enchanted gardens. On one day I realised suddenly what is it what I adore so much. All these magical gardens are not starry blossoms, but hundreds and thousands of tiny mouths in waiting for prey. What a horror if we think about it! Yet, even remembering that, I can still find pleasure while watching coral reefs!

Forest Gump for sure!!! And all the lotr movies!!!

Howard Shore's music gets me every time espiecally The Breaking of the Fellowship song on the fotr soundtrack!! Even if I don't cry I still feel sad yet hopeful for the fellowship and sam and frodo and stuff!! I know I have problems!!
You think you have problems? I was reading through The Quest for the Straight Road and some of that brought tears to my eyes....
"weepy eye syndrome" thats what a friend and I call it Wink Smilie

I cried most recently after watching MASK..blubbered like a babby at least twice during it, once when the girls father stopped her seeing him, and when he died and his mother stuck all the pins back in the map. I've watched that movie many tiems, it still moves me to tears.

Guess what weird me cries over in the fellowship of the ring? When Gandalf dies, even though I know he's coming back.
