"Bad spelling can be lethal. For example, the greedy Seriph of Al-Yabi was
cursed by a badly-educated deity and for some days everything he touched
turned to Glod, which happened to be the name of a small dwarf from a
mountain community hundreds of miles away who found himself magically
dragged to the kingdom and relentlessly duplicated. Some two thousand Glods
later the spell wore off. These days, the people of Al-Yabi are renowned
for being remarkably short and bad-tempered." -Terry Pratchett, from Witches Abroad (I think, can't remember)

"And then the Balrog uttered a terrible laugh, no really, Balrogs aren't used to laughing, and he was really out of practise." - Gandalf and the Balrog (By PlasticSquirrel)
It seriously deserved a mention, Plastic. 'Cause I nearly died laughing when I read it. Good work Big Smile Smilie

"Most rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read."

People use many interesting things for bookmarks. I found a postcard with a poem by Robert Fulghum:
Read Smilie I believe that imagination is stronger that knowledge-
That myth is more potent than history.
I believe that dreams are more powerful than facts-
That hope always triumphs over experience-
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death.

My favourite Tolkien quote for Halo:

'If you don't let me in, Frodo, I'll blow your door right down your hole and out the hill." Gandalf to Frodo at Bag End. I still can't figure out the exact words and I don't have my copy here.
I still can't figure out the exact words and I don't have my copy here
You almost have it verbatim. Gandalf's actual words were:
'If you don't let me in, Frodo, I shall blow your door right down your hole and out through the hill,' ...

I may not be a religious type, but seeing as Prog kindly found the Gospel of Thomas for me and I'm reading it while I check through the forums this morning, I'm putting in this quote from it, cos I really like it.

Jesus said: He who knows the All but fails (to know) him-self lacks everything.
I taught him everything I know and he still knows nothing.--I forgot who said it. Shaking Head Smilie Very Big Grin Smilie

From my favorite t-shirt:

"You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because your all the same."

Kind of the geeks motto, isn't it? An ode to individuality!

[Edited on 10/9/2002 by Allyssa]
That's Simon and Garfunkel Allyssa, not Dylan at all, and I saw that sig under a certain post somewhere else on the net earlier....

Hugely Tommy, Desire is one of my favourite albums of all time, and my Dad used to play it to me constantly when I was a kid. And besides, who else would rhyme help with Kelp and not care?
Love Tori Amos as well, good one Prog.
Dunno if I've put this one in before but what the hell...

Lol! Good one Plastic!

I just love "I want you" (Bob Dylan). I Love You Smilie I like his voice.

And besides, who else would rhyme help with Kelp and not care?

True, true! When I listen to his songs I get that feeling that there aren't many writers nowadays who can even get so far as touch his lyrics. Not to say none. Cool Smilie

So Tori isn't a no-no? Well, in that case I just HAVE to do this.

Sorry about that, I guess I got carried away. Oh well, it took too long to go back and delete now...

Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

I was going to post this a long time ago but I felt corny for even thinking about it. Right now, I don't care.

For this is Wisdom;
to love, to live
To take what fate, or the Gods may give.
To ask no question, to make no prayer,
To kiss the lips and caress the hair,
Speed passion's ebb as you greet its flow
To have,
to hold
and in time,
let go.

--Laurence Hope
