That film looks good when it`s advertised so I`m gonna go see it. Big Smile Smilie
I watched a Brilliant film last night Donnie Darko!
I`ve never heard of it....What`s it about and what`s it like? Can you tell me? Smile Smilie
It's a sort of remake of The last temptation of Christ, it's very dark, humerous and touching. I won't tell you what it is about though because it will spoil it. But I really do recomend nagging your parent's to rent it for you. As it is a 15. It doesn't need that rating though as there is only mild swearing and two bit's of violence and that isn't graphic!

It don`t matter what the ratings are, my mum lets me watch any film I like unless she thinks it`s really unsuitable for me, she knows I`m grown up enough for this and doesn`t really take alot of notice of the ratings, don`t get me wrong, she`s a brilliant mum. There`s nothing wrong with her. Wink Smilie lol! Big Laugh Smilie No, seriously, she`s a great mum. Big Smile Smilie
I heard it was more of a Harvey remake, except that this time you get to see the rabbit. Though i've not been able to rent it up til now, will try to get it at the weekend...
Strange... I just watched it last night for the first time as well. I thought it was FANTASTIC.

When Drew Barrymore's character talks about the "famous linguist" that said that "of all the words in the english language, 'cellar door' is the most beautiful" I think she's referring to Tolkien. I know that's not exactly what Tolkien said (and I can't remember exactly what he said) but that can't be a coincidence.

It's kind of cool, but "cellar door" doesn't sound so beautiful when said with an American accent Big Laugh Smilie

I watched one of my favourite movies yesterday! OSMOSIS JONES!!!!
It’s soooooo freaking funny and cool!!!
I just saw Catch Me If You Can last night, and I thought it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. I must say that I’m hardly a Leonardo DiCaprio fan (never saw Titanic, and I never will), but he’s good in this movie. Plus it’s kinda hard to go wrong when you’re acting alongside Tom Hanks (who is brilliant in the film), Christopher Walken, and you’ve got Steven Spielberg directing! It’s a great movie, and all the more fascinating since it’s based on a true story.

Man, what Frank Abagnale Jr. was able to pull off was absolutely amazing! Heh Grondy (hoping Grondy sees this post), do you remember anything about that when it was happening? I think they finally caught him on Xmas in 1969, and then he did time until 1974, when he was released to FBI custody to work for them, and serve the rest of his sentence in that capacity. I was born in 71, so I was way too young to know anything about it.

No, I don't remember him by name or from the little I learned by Googleing him, but then I wasn't very interested in crooks back then. I do know there were a few master hackers and phreaks that got hired for their knowledge of how to stop others of their ilk from doing so much damage. Genius Smilie

That’s kinda what happened for Frank Abagnale Jr. He worked for the FBI for like 25 years after his release 1974, and is considered to be the world’s foremost expert on check fraud. He still does consulting with the FBI to this day, but he started his own company a while back as well, and the most amazing thing is he is the guy who developed the technology that most financial institutions around the world use for their secure check systems to this day. He also is the guy who developed the technology that is used by most states for driver’s licenses.

There is some interviews with him on the second disc of Catch Me If You Can, and he talks about how the most amazing thing that’s happened to him in his life, was taking an experience that was so negative, and turning it into this tremendously positive successful career, where he is now one of the most well respected guys in his field, and he has made 10 times a much money with his own business, developing technologies, then he did when he was on his 5 year check fraud run (a little over 2 million). It’s just amazing to me that he was able to pass himself off as a teacher, Pan Am co-pilot, lawyer (he actually tried cases in La. for over a year, and nobody doubted he was a lawyer for a second), a doctor, and a secret service agent all before he was 21! This guy had people believing he was a co-pilot for Pan Am when he was 16, and the whole thing started because his parents were getting a divorce, and it was too much for him. He ran out of the courtroom when the judge was making him decide which parent he wanted to live with, and he ran away to NYC. It really is quite a remarkable story, and I highly recommend the movie to anyone who hasn’t seen it!

Any and all John Wayne films my friends. He is a legend a real hero one of the good guys. And anyone whose doesn't agree better run and don't look back. The Searchers fantastic film. She wore a yellow ribbon just all of them there were fantastic. If you could be half the man John Wayne was I'd say your doing something right.
Sorry Darous, I personally can't stand him. He Stood for racist land grabing, plus he had a girls name!
hey darous i happen to live at one time in the very town john wayne was born in. Also on several ocassions i took a tour of the premises(very very small house). And in public library of the same town they had a massive collection of his movies! 'The Searchers' is indeed a fantastic film,in fact many critics consider it the greatest western ever made. I give that honor to Gary Cooper's High Noon, even if it was in black and white.

It was produced by Stanley Kramer, directed by Fred Zinnemann and was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture (won by Cecil B. DeMille's circus epic The Greatest Show on Earth (1952)), Best Director, and Best Screenplay - it was awarded four awards: Best Song for "High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darlin')" (sung by Tex Ritter throughout the film, lyrics by Ned Washington, music by Dimitri Tiomkin), Best Scoring of a Dramatic Picture (Dimitri Tiomkin), Best Film Editing (Elmo Williams and Harry Gerstad), and Best Actor for Gary Cooper's performance - his second Oscar after a win for Sergeant York (1941).

I was probably in the seventh or eighth grade one summer(1953-54) when our hired farmhand took me to town one Saturday night and we went to the movie and then stopped in a tavern where he drank beer and I had a sarsaparilla. I still watch the movie whenever it comes on TV.

Here is a link to it. http://www.filmsite.org/high.html
I'm not crazy about westerns. In fact, there's only a very small few that have ever held my attention for their duration. Of those, the only one I can recall much about is Stagecoach... the original with John Wayne. So I have to say, for what it's worth, Stagecoach gets my vote for best western Orc With Thumbs Up Smilie
Just watched a fantastic film last night called *the shipping news*, excelent movie about a middle aged man (Kevin Spacey)with next to no self confidence who, after his two timing terrible partner(Kate Blanchett) dies in a car crash, takes his young daughter and follows his aunt(Judi Dench) whom he has only just meet, to his ansestral(sp) home, NewFoundland.
There he learns to face his fears and learns about his family, it turns out his forefathers where pirates of a kind and would move the watch fires on the coast and when a ship came to greif on the rocks they would board it, kill the crew and steal the goods on board.
A must see for people who enjoy drama, comedy and love stories.

1.Life is Beautiful
2.Its a Wonderful Life
3.Gallipoli--such a powerful film!
4.Saving Private Ryan
5.Forest Gump
6.Gladiator
7.Back to the Future--its just a great escapist movie
8.Braveheart--FREEDOM!
And I have a ton more, but thats all I can think of just now...Oh yah,and the Exorcist will simply scare your pants off.Thats the only scary movie that made me temporarily afraid of the dark!
Now that I've seen it a grand total of five times (and certain scenes more than that), my gripes with the film aside, I definitely now have to add The Two Towers to my list! Overall it is brilliant! Visually it’s one of the most amazing films ever, and the list of positives definitely outweighs the list of negatives! I’m really looking forward to the SEE of TTT in November as that is no doubt going to be superior.

Well say what ye want but The Duke was da man. Also another film that I forgot about was Tango & Cash. I watched it a few nights ago and what a fantastic film it was. Russel and Stallone were perfec. The comedy timing these two had was superb. Plus with a budget of 55 million you knew to execpt action. But none the less a quality show.
Have you been watching CNX?
A brilliant film is Bruce Almighty
I love Grease Big Smile Smilie has major ear worms in it though.

Just reading that got "Greased Lightning" stuck in my head! Argh! Mad Smilie
Hehehe,sorry Andrea. Smoke Smilie
I have to say that the movie Ran is a must watch, very touching and defintly a movie both females and males could enjoy.
Yup. Ran is a good movie, and if I remember is based on King Lear or was that a different one?

I watched Charlie Chan in Honolulu last night, it and its siblings aren't great movies, but they are mind-numbing and bring back memories of my teenage years of early TV watching.

I watched two really good movies this weekend, Waterworld and a Battlefield Earth marathon, yup yup yup, good movies! Big Smile Smilie
I just got done watching Save the Last Dance, its okay but the only part worth seeing is when Julia Stiles does that jig at the end Big Smile Smilie
Last night I again watched The Yellow Submarine.
I like Ghost Ship. It`s an 18 and I watched it ova my mate`s sleepova. Scarey, but funny! I loved it when...I won`t say it coz this is a family friendly site. Big Smile Smilie c! I`m a good girl! Wink Smilie

Don't worry, I left too Sad Smilie I HATE scary movies! I like comedy, action and romance!

True, though not for the reasons Lady F stated, that bit she refers to is, in fact, the best bit of the whole movie. After that it becomes way too formulaic and predictable. It is laughably dumb, and you can spot everything that happens soo far ahead it ceases to be funny.
If you didn't think 13 ghosts was rubbish, then you might like it, but 13 ghosts WAS rubbish and again only had one good bit in it, which was also a rather ingenious bit of sick violence.
However, if you love sick violence, then you really have to see the first 5 minutes or so of Ghost Ship, just don't bother with the rest.
I finally picked up Daredevil on DVD. I'd seen it once in the theaters, and I liked it then, but I watched it again for the second time last night, and I have to say, I liked it soooo much more after seeing it again. Outside of a couple of hokey spots, most of the movie is actually pretty darn good. Excellent stuff!

My sentiments exactly, Plastic. Now I know why I'm so careful to stay on the right side of winch wires when I'm at work.
Yeah, when wire rope breaks under tension you don't want to be anywhere around, as it can cut through flesh like a hot knife through butter.

Last night I watched the 1957 B&W Throne of Blood, Akira Kurasawa's samarai retelling of MacBeth. It was great.

Donnie Darko is such a brilliant film, but seem to be the only person on PT to have seen it.
Starwars is brilliant film’s legendary movies!
Pere, both me and Ross have expounded on how much we loved Donnie Darko somewhere in these forums, trouble is, there's so many Movie Forums now it's getting ridiculous. If I was less lazy I'd bung them all into one, and ban the creation of any topics with the word Movie in them. But I am this lazy...

Daredevil is the single greatest movie based on a comic I have ever seen. Really, it was utterly fantastic. The commentary on the DVD is hilarious stuff like "and this is where the parents who took their kids to see Spiderman walked out.."
Yes I even own Donnie Darko. I have sudjested combineing the thread's before, please feel free to do so with this one.

I agree! They really managed to capture the dark, tortured side of M.M. that's so crucial to Daredevils character and story.
Elf Smilie
I still need to see that movie... Elf Smilie
I think "Harrisson’s Flowers" is great it’s really touching!
I also love the three Matrix movies...nothing compares to them...
Usual Suspects is a great movie too ...
Hulk, Skwerl like Hulk! Skwerl Smash people who not like Hulk Movie! Skwerl happy that stupid movie people didn't go for 90 minute action/effects/smashing stuff movie but went for character development instead. Nowt to do with the Jolly Green Giant we all know and love from the comics, but way-cool movie.
Oh, Vanilla Sky is great too ... I love that movie!
Does 'Vanilla Sky' have Tom Cruz in it ?

I'm backing you 100% here P.S.!!! I just got Hulk on DVD, and watched it last night for the first time, and I loved it! It was really, really good, and I was very pleasantly surprised (although I had heard good things from some friends, and my little brother who had seen it).

You hit it right on the nail head, it wasn't some stupid all out mindless Hulk smashing everything action film like the trailers portrayed. They really did spend an amazing amount of time on character development. I mean the flic is like 2 hours and 18 minutes long, and you don't even see the first appearence by the Hulk until like an hour into the movie. I thought the plot, and the acting was pretty darn good.

Plus some of the stuff that Ang Lee did in that film from a directing point of view was absolutely brilliant. I loved the multi-paneling comic book feel used in a lot of the shots. I'd have to say also that visually, Hulk was one of the coolest movies I've ever seen! The second disc with all of the extra goodies is the bomb! I'm already looking forward to the next one now! Great job Ang!!!
