I am in Dallas, Texas. I hate Texas weather! I would much rather live in Europe, ANYWHERE. I lived in Germany for 5 years and loved it.

The Belgian people tend to believe sprouts were grown for the fist time ever in Belgium, in the surroundings of Brussels some time ago. That's why they are called Brussel sprouts.

Well since our membership list has disappeared, I'll try and post who and what I can by memory; those I miss or get wrong, can correct me later.

I live in Dubai, not Abu Dhabi Grondy. Although I'll probably be leaving for South Africa (probably Joburg) sometime in November.

Well, I have nothing to add here. Except that I'm Belgian, and proud of it, but part of me seems to be Irish as well...

wow, I'm impressed, Grondy...couldn't have remembered all that myself!

Close, Grondy. New Brunswick, same end of the country just not as much water around us.
However, my brother and his family live in Newfoundland.
As a matter of fact, of my 8 neices and nephews, 6 are Newfies! And...since I drank the Screech ,ate the balogna and kissed the cod without getting sick, I am officially an honourary Newfoundlander.
So Newfoundland it is then, you just won't find me there.

Ungoliant - Dude, in Dubai! Is it true that gov't housing there includes marble countertops and goldplated fixtures? I saw this Dateline NBC-type report on the TV about Dubai and they did video of gov't built housing that would make me feel like a queen! Plus, they've got some pretty fine horses out there, too.
Howyadoin' with regard to the world terrorism crisis? I assume you're of anglo extraction, but I could be wrong. If I'm right, how's the world treating you in Dubai. Are things calm in the UAE?
Hope all is well.

Yeah Yummy - the government here gives free bungalows, land, cars, plus money (one lump sum) for household appliances and furniture, to the citizens. So they're pretty well off. Oh, they get lots of money to pay for their wedding as well. All from the 'gummint'.
Well, as far as the 'War on Terror' goes - don't mean to sound crass but right now people here (most expats & locals) are more concerned about the World Cup, so not many have read the news for the past few weeks. But I suppose we (and the rest of the world) will get back to real life one the finals are over. The terrorism thing just isn't a big deal here right now I suppose - at least not as big as footy.
Well I'm not Anglo - I'm Malaysian, so we sorta look a Chinese-Indian-Japanese-Portugese-Uzbek-Arab-Dutch mix. So I tend to blend in wherever I go. Unless I venture down to Deep South USA - then I'll be in deep trouble I guess.
But the white expats here are doing well too. My American friends here are enjoying themselves, except that they don't understand why I have to stay glued to the tv to watch 'soccer' all day instead of playing golf. Duh. Come on, it's the World Cup for goodness sake!

Very nearly mate! Where've you been?

Gandalf old man, you were "the greybeard" here on the forum that answered all my foolish questions when I first found this place.
Welcome back, and stay a while.

Gandalf N I think. Welcome back!

Indeed it is. I met him in the chat yesterday! Great to see you here again, pal!

Plastic
I've been extremely busy the past year (and a half?!).
Grondy
Thanks, i'll try to stay a while although I've never really been away (though i did miss some design changes I think).
Ungoliant
TomBom
And again.. to all, thank you for the warm welcome.. I'll try to pop in every once in a while if time permits.

Hello Gandalf. Have we met before by any chance? At LOTR online maybe? Just wondering.
I have been to LOTR online I think (as i've visited almost every website about tolkien) but I can't remember meeting you.Hello Gandalf. Have we met before by any chance? At LOTR online maybe? Just wondering.
Ofcourse there are about a thousand Gandalf's on the internet so you might have met one of my deputees

Good to know that you're doing well Gandalf! As Grondy said, hope to see you around more often.

Yep. Dont be a stranger now Gandalf!
I am here at least once a day, sometimes twice - morning and evening.

Indeed old friend... It has been a while, looking forward to an *email* from you soon.

Think that was Gandalf, Alyssa...
Well I'm kinda hoping to meet you in chat again, Gandalf. Was nice talking to you again! And we did miss you, you know...
Honestly...

Ungoliant - really interesting post re: Dubai, and I don't remember why I assumed you were anglo, but your perspective is really fascinating. Thanks for the info, and let the gummn't know I'm applying for citizenship so I can have a marble clad bathroom and a subsidized wedding! Cool!

Sometimes I think the people who live here (Dubai) don't know how lucky they are. Everything is provided for them - and the whole place is 100% tax-free as well (even for us expatriates). And the locals don't have to pay water or electricity bills, since it's all free.
I wish this could be the case for everyone world-wide. I've been to places in the world where most of the citizens don't even have money to eat properly.

Yeah, I sure hope so...
I'm moving to Dubai right away! Wow those living conditions are spectacular!
I'm moving to Dubai right away! Wow those living conditions are spectacular!

I think that you'd enjoy it for a year or two Tommy. Although life does get to be too easy after a while a you'd tend to get bored. Well, at least I'm bored with the place, so I'm looking forward to move somewhere else soon. Life without challenges is not worth living.
Bookstores here are lousy though. And the sandstorms in winter can get pretty bad. And it only rains once a year - a pathetic rainshower that lasts for about 15 seconds. The Europeans here love it, but being a child of the tropics myself, I need constant rain!

PA USA.... Please get me out of here! I can't live in PA any longer.

Welcome to our virtual Rivendell, then Keeper*of*the*Stars. Hope you enjoy your stay among us.

Welcome Keeper*of*the*Stars. It is so nice to meet a fellow Dunadan.
There are worse places than PA but I'm sure you will leave someday if that is your true desire. In the meantime, enjoy your time with us.

Where at in Pennsylvania? Lancaster and Pennsylvania Dutch country reminds me of the Shire!
I would rather live in PA than NJ!
This must be the dullest place on Earth!

God, and I thought living in B*lgium (
to G & P) was horrible!
Welcome, Keeper*of*the*Stars. Nice nic, by the way!
I think we met before somewhere in an inn, if I'm not mistaking?

Welcome, Keeper*of*the*Stars. Nice nic, by the way!

Welcome to the Forum Keeper*of*the*stars. Enjoy your stay and come back again.

Why leave at all?

B*lgium isn't too bad Tommy. At least Brussels was lovely, full of tulips and very bright & jolly - that's how I remember it, though that was from 17 years ago so things may have changed since then....
I've always wanted to know what the connection is between Brussels & brussel sprouts. Go on then Tommy, enlighten me.

If You all are bored of living anywhere just come to holland for a while And enjoy the beauties of legally using dope if you are in to that kinda stuff....
but if you are an American stay away from the amsterdam channals cause it's known american's drown easily in them when they are stoned
And the wheaters always nice
"lots" of rain and there's occasionally a bit sun... it's about 30 degrees centigrade atm
that's to hot for me
but live here's good and easy the most pubs stay open til 4 am
you only have te be 16 to drink beer but you can get it as easily when you 're 14 and school system is one of the best
it's like getting frequent flying miles and with that you can get your diploma's

Sounds pretty good to me
Well, since I come from Croatia I have much to complain about, but therefore the Adriatic is rather nice. Atleast tourists do not complain... much
