yeth.
As far as i know it is the same place... YET... it is not the answer that i am looking for! You should try and read about Gondolin. At a certain moment something happens in the eagle's cleft.
Ah, the precursor to the battle at Durin's Tower (between Gandalf and the Balrog) occurred in Cirith Thoronath, the Eagles Cleft). For there on a peak fought Glorfindel and another Balrog with the same result: they both fell to ruin in the abyss. And Thorondor bore Glorfindel's body out of the abyss, while it was Gwaihir who bore newly reborn body of Gandalf from Durin's Tower.
so its youre turn?
The Eagles'Cleft is named Cirith Thoronath. It is a dreadful pass where Tuor and Idril were fleeing from the surprise attack on Gondolin. There they were ambused by Orcs; there was a also aBalrog ready to slay them all. And there indeed Glorfindel, chief of the House of the Golden Flower of Goldolin, fought with the Balrog upon a pinnacle of rock form that place. Both fell overboard.
So yes that was correct!
At Beorn's table, what did Bilbo and most of the Dwarves sit upon Question Smilie
That would be on polished tree stumps/small logs, if I recall correctly. Gandalf and Beorn sat in chairs at either end of the table.

*********
What made the jailer and the chief butler of Thranduil nod off so that Bilbo and the dwarves could escape?
just a guess so ill wait.. a music box?
Be serious, Elrose!
i was! you see...theres this game that my friend use to have and you needed to find a music box to put the gaurds to sleep......o my, you remind me of my science teacher...

mrs. Squires??
Big Smile Smilie
wine?
Ithil is right, the wine of Dorwinian. Pose the next question.
who sang a song about a troll when the hobbits and Strider reached the stone trolls?
samwise gamgee ?
That's right! Take your turn.
bone him, stone him!
Someone else may as well pose the next question as Golden_red hasn't been around for a while.
OK....

What 2 things did Sam's Gaffa talk about when talking about Sams interest in Bilbos tales ?
Something like:
1) Cabbages and taters are better for you than Elves and Dragons.
2) You'll end up in trouble if you mix in the business of your betters.
Yes, the first one..."Elves and dragons...I says to him" etc etc.......
What was the name of the peak, located near the border between Gondor and Rohan, on which the last beacon fire was lit?
Was it Halifirien?
I think so, your turn. Happy Elf Smilie
What was the name of Legolas's grandfather?
Was it Oropher, you mean the father of Thranduil yeah??
Way to go....your turn >^..^<
Since Elessar has been absent from this thread for a while I'll post a new question:

What are the names of the three mountains under which Moria was mined?
Caradhras (Redhorn), Celrbdil (Silvertine), and Fanuidhol (Cloudyead)
Well met dearest Grondy. The mighty peaks are also known as Barazinbar, Zirakzigil, and Bundushath’r to the Dwarves.

Your prize: The opportunity to ask a Tolkien related question yourself! Yippee!
What was the name of the pipe-weed provided by the proprietor of the Prancing Pony upon the return of our travellers to Bree on their way home to Hobbiton from Gondor and the warQuestion Smilie
He brought them the best he had, pipeweed that bree-folk had grown themselves, by the name of Southlinch, although he admits that it's not a match for the Southfarthing varieties.
That was it Mungo, your turn again. Happy Elf Smilie
Nightmares were had by three of the four hobbits during their first sleep in the house of Tom Bombadil. What was it that the hobbits dreamt of?
It was Frodo, Merry and Pippin had the dreams Sam had 'slept like a log'

Frodo:

Quote:
Frodo lay in a dream without light. Then he saw the young moon rising; under it's thin light there loomed before him a black wall of rock, pierced by a dark arch like a great gate. It seemed to Frodo that he was lifted up, and passing over he saw that the rock-wall was a circle of hills, and that within it was a plain, and in the midst of the plain stood a pinnacle of stone, like a vast tower but not made by hands. On it's top stood the figure of a man. The moon as it rose seemed to hang for a moment above his head and glistened in his white hair as the wind stirred it. Up from the dark plain below came the crying of fell voices, and the howling of many wolves. Suddenly a shadow, like the shape of great wings, passed across the moon. The figure lifted his arms and a light flashed from the staff that he wielded. A mighty eagle swept down and bore him away. The voices wailed and the wolves yammered. There was a noise like a strong wind blowing, and on it was borne the sound of hoofs, galloping, galloping, galloping from the East. 'Black Riders!' thought Frodo as he wakened, with the sound of hoofs still echoing in his mind. He wondered if he would ever again have the courage to leave the safety of these stone walls. He lay motionless, still listening; but all was now silent, and at last he turnedand fell asleep again or wandered into some unremembered dream.

Pippin:

Quote:
At his side Pippin lay dreaming pleasantly; but a change came over his dreams and he turned and groaned. Suddenly he woke, or thought he had waked, and yet still heard in the darkness the sound that had disturbed his dream: tip-tap, squeak: the noise was like branches fretting in the wind, twig-fingers scraping wall and window: creak, creak, creak. He wondered if there were willow-trees close to the house; and then suddenly he had a dreadful feeling that he was not in an ordinary house at all, but inside the willow and listening to that horrible dry creaking voice laughing at him again. He sat up, and felt the soft pillows yield to his hands, and he lay down again relieved. He seemed to hear the echo of words in his ears: "Fear nothing! Have peace until the morning! Heed no nightly noises!" Then he went to sleep again.

Merry:

Quote:
It was the sound of water that Merry heard falling into his quiet sleep: water streaming down gently, and then spreading, spreading irresistibly all round the house into a dark shoreless pool. It gurgled under the walls, and was rising slowly but surely. "I shall be drowned!" he thought. It will find its way in, and then I shall drown." He felt that he was lying in a soft slimy bog, and springing up he set his fool on the corner of a cold hard flagstone. Then he remembered where he was and lay down again. He seemed to hear or remember hearing: "Nothing passes doors or windows save moonlight and starlight and the wind off the hill-top." A little breath of sweet air moved the curtain. He breathed deep and fell asleep again.

I assume these were the ones you were talking about? Orc Smiling Smilie
Cripes yes. That was what I was thinking of, but a general summation of a few words would have sufficed. For your extra effort I will give you the pseudo simaril that I recently collected in another thread. Hope you get some time to enjoy it before it sublimates.

You can certainly post the next question if you wish. Thumbs Up Smilie
Shouldn't you wait until you actually RECEIVE that Psuedo-Silmaril before handing it off? Imagine if I'd tried to pick up leggy blondes before I got some. Historically, offering Silmarils you don't have is ill-advised. :P Not that I should say anything; I only remembered Frodos dream, despite the others being quite topical
i would have put a few words Mungo, but I wanted to break my record of 'longest post' Orc Grinning Smilie (well i couldnt help showing off, gotta do it some time hehe or to just prove my knowledge hehe)

Quote:
Deserves death! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some die that deserve life. Can you give that to them?

This occurs twice in LOTR, name which book or books, the chapters and um go on then the page numbers in which they both occur
FotR Book One, Chapter 2, pg 65 (Ballantine movie cover paperback ISBN 0-345-33970-3)
TTT Book Four, Chapter 1, pg 246 (Ballantine movie cover paperback ISBN 0-345-33971-1)
Read Smilie
By that version, correct!!!!

Your Question Grondy please....
How many days journey did the wain of King Theoden spend taking the King's body from Gondor to back Rohan. Question Smilie
I'd venture to say just over two weeks; 15 days.

Q: Which three individuals hold/carry the crown during Aragorn's coronation?
I believe it was Gandalf, Frodo and Sam. Sure hope so. ;-p
From cask by hand of Faramir to Aragorn, who handed it back to Faramir, who handed to Frodo, who bore it to Gandalf, who placed on Aragorn's head, so in fact four people handled the crown on its way to the head of the newly crowned king. Sam, I'm sad to say was only an honored bystander, as were Merry and Pippin.
ARGGGH! So close. Almost got the answer to all three threads at once. Sigh. Ah, well, tomorrow's another day, so fiddle-dee-dee.
Ah Grondy, you're right! I'd actually forgotten that Aragorn held the crown while he told Faramir to give it to Frodo and Gandalf. Good spotting my error!

Your question if you like Smile Smilie
What small bit of happiness did Sam and Frodo spot at the crossroads between Osgiliath and Minas Morgul Question Smilie
Statue of a Gondorian king with his head off, but with a crown of flowers growing around it, IIRC.
That's it Morambar, your turn. Happy Elf Smilie
Great. Now what? ;-p

Ummm... I'll piggy back my last question: what was the name of the material used to imprison Melkor at the end of the Elder Days?
Chain named Bob?
