Correct.
How many children did Dior have?
I only remember Elwing, the mother of Elros and Elrond. Don't think she had any siblings.
Incorrect. Smile Smilie
three ?
Yeah, she had two brothers that were left in the woods to starve.
Smile Smilie Who were the M’rdain ?
They were the smiths of Eregion who were the ones responsible for creating the rings of power.
What was on the banner of the Kings of the Mark?
A white horse on a green field?
Yeah.
Why didn't Gandalf and Frodo simply fly the Ring to the fires of Orodruin?
Did Tolkien discuss this in LOTR?

Only reasons I can think of are

1. Being spotted by the Great Eye
2. Attacked by Nazgul interceptors
3.Skies over Mordor too toxic at the time
4. Eagles on vacation
or best of all
5. If successful, LOTR would be much, much shorter
Those are all good answers, Gwindor's turn.

Pretty cool answers Gwindor! Gave me a good laugh!Nazgul interceptors!!! Orc Grinning Smilie
What was '"Elwing' s Rival"?
I actually came across a sailboat by that name off the coast of France some years ago - so there's a clue there.
Well a sailboat boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into, so Elwing's rival must be a hole in the ’ther that the Valar poured E’rendil into, so the answer must be the Vingilot.
Absolutely correct - on both counts!
How many of the initial fourteen members of Thorin's Company remained alive at the time of Thorin's entombment?

Moderator Smilie Heads up! I have noticed a few of you have been forgetting to add the slash "/" before the "b" or "i"; thus leaving the tag ends open to bleed into the post(s) that follow. Please review your posts after you hit the save post button and use the edit button to correct any errors. Thanks
I make it 11, 13 dwarves less Fili,Kili and Thorin = 10 + Bilbo = 11
That was also my count; Gwindor's turn. Happy Elf Smilie
What is the oldest ring in Middle-earth?
The Ring of Barahir? It was made by the Noldor in Valinor; given by Finrod to Barahir; and passed down through the generations to Aragorn, heir of Isildur, King of the Reunited Kingdoms, and Lord of the West.
Quite right, according to my calculations-I worked this one out myself.
Where and how did King Th’oden's son die?
Battle of the Fords of Isen,
By an Orc with an axe?
Yes, it the First Battle of the Isen on an eyot (small island) providing rearguard for his eored of Rohirrim retreating south before an advancing horde of Saruman's evil minions. Theodred was cut down by axemen. In UT, it says they were 'men or orc-men'.

Gwindor's turn. Happy Elf Smilie
I posted a question earlier:

Quote:

"A chance meeting, as we say in Middle-earth"

But who said it, and who were they meeting?
Tom Bombadil to Sam or Frodo near Old Man Willow?

Regarding Gwindor's above quoted question, I thought my answer of:
Quote:
Well a sailboat boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into, so Elwing's rival must be a hole in the ’ther that the Valar poured E’rendil into, so the answer must be the Vingilot.
to be sufficient, wasn't that the answer?
Your earlier answer was quite correct Grondmaster. I used the quote to illustrate a 'chance meeting'. not to correct your answer. These sort of chance meetings do happen(to me anyway)
However, it wasn't Tom or Sam or Frodo but another member of the Fellowship, but a bit previous to LOTR - a very important meeting it was too. I'll post my answer if no one has any success.
Gandalf and Thorin: Gandalf had been worrying about the Smaug problem and as he approached Bree, Eru serendipitously put Thorin in Gandalf's path as told in 'The Quest of Erebor' found in UT.

To Gandalf it appeared as a chance meeting, but I chose to add Eru here because I still believe he had plans to get rid of the bad guys: Bilbo finding the Ring was part of Eru's Plan C regarding Sauron; Isildur and Elrond at Orodruin was the penultimate end of his Plan B; while the N’men’reans capturing Sauron was Plan A. Of course I may be wrong. Wiggle Smilie
You're quite correct Grondmaster, it was Gandalf and Thorin as told in UT. I'm sure your additional plans are also on the nose.
Your turn then
Why did the Nandor led by Lenw’, give up the Great Journey?
i think that they wanted to stay near Anduin and they took another road than the rest of the Teleri
Well, they did like the local streams and water of the Anduin , but that wasn't their main reason for staying in the vicinity of the Anduin. Can anyone remember what it was?
The only thing that i remember is that they were afraid of the Misty Mountains...
That is the answer Beleg, they were afraid to cross the Misty Mountains; so it is your turn. Happy Elf Smilie
Ok......... Who helped Beren and Luthien to steal the Silmarilli from Morgoth?
The faithful great hound dog, Huan.
your turn then Grondmaster
What was the name of Thorin Oakenshield's sister?
Dis of course. It is fitting that I should answer! Elk Grinning Smilie
Aye, just for that you may pose the next question. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
What was the Elvish name of Elros, first King of Numenor?
Elf With a Big Grin Smilie It was Elros, which means "sea-foam" in Sindarin. He took the name Tar-Minyatur when he became first King of the N’men’reans.

What was significant about Mount Gundabad, like why do we even know about it?
It was a Goblin Stronghold?
Yes, Thorin's turn again. Happy Elf Smilie
How was the oliphaunt called in Gondor?
Mamuk? (sp?)
Hahaha! It was called the Mumak or Mumakil Grondy! Wink Smilie

Your Turn! Elk Grinning Smilie
