Tol-Galen....It did not have a palantir in it.
Correct Elrose, you now have a pretty bauble in place of the missing palantir. Happy Elf Smilie

Orc Sad Smilie You mustn't answer for twenty-four hours Elrose, six minutes is very much less than 24 hours.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Cat Smilie oops
Fish and goblins/orcs and probably anything that was stupid enough to crawl down there.
And Bilbos too, when they didn't resort to cheating. So Amari’ gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

What name did ’omer give to Aragorn on account of his swift journey Question Smilie
Come on 24 hours.......The name Wingfoot or something. If that isnt the right name my anwer is "a name."
Yes that was the right name Elrose, so you get the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

how many Black Riders were there Question Smilie
At Bruinen I believe there were nine, but until then I believe there were five. I could be wrong though.
wait.....i thought there were always nine black riders.....you do mean nazgul right?
There were always nine Black Riders (Nazgul), from the time of their falling under the influence of Sauron via their nine rings, until the fall of Barad-d’r. They were just located in different places from each other sometimes. This wasn't meant to be a trick question, but as a gimee. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie Still, I'll give the pretty bauble to Morambar. Happy Elf Smilie

What oath did Thingol swear to L’thien concerning Beren Question Smilie
Thingol promised that if Beren brought him one of the Silmarils from the crown fo Sauron that Beren and Luthien could get married.
nOOO YOU STOLE THE ANSWER TO MY FAVORITE STORY!!! to be precise it was an Iron crown of Morgoth and it had to be in his hand....that plays a key part in the end of the story...
I think what Grondy wants us to answer is the oath Thingol made to Luthien, swearing he wouldn't hurt or imprison Beren when he was brought into his halls.
Cloveress has the correct answer and the pretty bauble. Happy Elf Smilie

This oath was needed, if I remember correctly, because Beren was in Doriath unbidden and was like an outlaw living off the land. King Thingol had planned on imprisoning or killing Beren, if and when he could be caught. Besides Thingol had no use for Men, especially one who was sniffing after his beloved daughter Luthien, whom the Elven Princes weren't even good enough for.

What was the purchace price of Bill, who paid this amount, and to whom Question Smilie
the price was something like 12 pennies, and it was paid by mr butterbur to bill ferney, I think.
Yes Ithil, and the 12 pennies were silver. Anyway you get the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

What is the title of the chapter that begins with the following words:

'All about the hills the hosts of Mordor raged.' Question Smilie
it was the field of cormallen.
Correct Elenna, you get the Pseudo-Silmaril; Happy Elf Smilie so now please remember to wait 24 hours after I make this post before answering the question:

In what village was pipe-weed first cultivated in the Shire Question Smilie
thanks for my first pseudo-silmaril! Orc Grinning Smilie
and as for the next question, longbottom in the southfarthing, I should say.
You got it Ithil, and another pretty bauble to boot. Happy Elf Smilie

Why were the Fellowship unable to pass through the Redhorn Gate Question Smilie
because they got snowed in, and they would likely die if they would try to pass anyway.
Good enough Kratos, you get the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Which member of the Fellowship swore an oath of allegiance to Denethor II Question Smilie
Pippin?
I think its Gandalf , because all the Istari swore to protect ENERYONE from The Dark Lord , meaning ;Morgoth /Sauron ...but I know that Pippin swore to guard the city as well
Lemaly orangeflower has the correct answer and the pretty bauble. Happy Elf Smilie

What crop was Farmer Maggot famous for growing.
hmm...please be 24 hours.....Mushrooms
Yup, mushrooms, so Elrose gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Who treated a wound on Merry's forehead Question Smilie
Did Merry go to the Houses of Healing in Gondor. I would guess the nurse at the houses of healing.????

Just a guess. I couldn't look it up.
if ti is the house of healing then Aragorn or maybe Pippin would have. i'l say Aragorn
No, he got "healed" by the band of orcs led by Ugluk. Because the wound got cured by orcs it remained a scar for the rest of his life. Anyway, I'll go for Ugluk.
Well, the only nazul ever explicitly mentioned by Tolkien was Kham’l, but he was an Easterling and not of the N’men’reans. I do happen to know the three N’men’rean Nazg’l, who are Murazor, Akhorahil and Adunaphel. Now with Murazor being the Witch-King and the leader of the Nazg’l it would seem fitting taht he was the most devoted to Morgoth. Therefore, I would guess the answer be Murazor.
Yes it was Ugl’k, so Kratos gets the pretty bauble.

The Orc who speared Frodo in Khazad-d’m was slain with which sword Question Smilie
I would like to add the following for people who arn't totally familiar with some of the accented characters. I just used the Windows character map. This can be found by going to Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Character Map. I hope this helps you guys!
ANDURIL ?spelling? he got his head chopped right?
Glamdring (gandalf's sword)
Elrose has it and the Pseudo-Silmaril with And’ril. Happy Elf Smilie And yes clove clear through the helmet rather than through the neck, which says a lot about Aragorn's strength and And’ril's metalurgy.

When Gandalf said, "Saruman, you missed your path in life.", what career did he then say Saruman should have chosen Question Smilie
Gandalf says to Saruman "you should have been the king's jester and earned your bread and stripes too by mimicking his counsellors".
Are we allowed to look up the answers to the questions in the books or on the internet?
According to a previous post by Grond we can look up stuff in the books, but that looking stuff up online (like at the encylopedia of Arda for example) is a no no. Feel free to correct me on this.

We can also, if we are sure that we got our answers right, ask our own question, and as i did double check my reply,

(Edited by Grondy to remove Mungo's question. See Grondy's post below. )
Actually all that Mungo said was true, except for the last bit, in that only I get to ask the questions in this thread. I thought there was an old existing thread in one of the tavern where you could all take turns asking trivia questions, but as I couldn't find it, I'll start a new one and move Mungo's question there in the first post.

Here is the link to new trivia thread in the Ivy Bush Tavern. Trivia from Tolkien's Books

Oh yes, Mungo did have the correct answer, so he gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Bilbo sang two songs while in Mirkwood. Give the first line of one of them. Question Smilie
Sorry Grond, got that info off the first post on pg 99 of this thread. Must have misunderstood.
Not a problem Mungo. Happy Elf Smilie

Click on the link in my previous post to get to Mungo's question.

Old fat spider spinning in a tree!
Old fat spider can't see me!
Attercop! Attercop!
Won't you stop,
Stop your spinning and look for me?

Old Tomnoddy, all big body,
Old Tomnoddy can't spy me!
Attercop! Attercop!
Down you drop!
You'll never catch me up your tree!

Lazy Lob and crazy Cob
are weaving webs to wind me.
I am far more sweet than other meat,
but still they cannot find me!

Here am I, naughty little fly;
you are fat and lazy.
You cannot trap me, though you try,
in you cobwebs crazy.

Since I looked up the answer, anyway, I decided to give all of both songs.
?Are we allowed to center text?
Moderator Smilie RE Text Centering: Probably not, but I won't quibble as it makes the poems look better. Elf Sticking Tounge Out Smilie

Caudimordax has the correct answers and the pretty bauble. Happy Elf Smilie
