Mirkwood was situated in Rhovanion, or Wliderland.
In the peom Voluspa, "The Sybil's Vision", a section of the Dvergatal, "The Tally of the Dwarves." Old Norse, repeated in a slighty different form in Snorri Sturluson's 13th century guide to Norse Mythology, the "Skaldskaparmal", Art of Poetry.
Okay Komosot, you have snowed me. What I was looking for was the Elder Edda, but I'll take your word for it as I don't have Tolkien's bibliography and am too lazy to look up your sources. So you get the Pseudo-Silmaril for your answer, and if you made them up, which I really doubt, another for your imagination. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

In what age did the Istari arrive at the Grey Havens Question Smilie
Third Age.
I'd say around 1500 of Second Age
Samwisegamgee has the right answer and got there first before Perwing posted his minor/major error and correction. He was right that it was in circa 1000 T.A. for that is implied in the second paragraph of 'The Third Age' in Appendix B to RotK and also on the first page of Section II, Part Four, of the Unfinished Tales.

Anyway, Samwise gets the Pseudo-Silmaril because I didn't ask for the year. Happy Elf Smilie

Hard to come up with a more better than that answer Aul’; you get the shiny-shiny. Happy Elf Smilie

Can you list the Elvish names of the three Dwarf-mansions mentioned in the Elven histories Question Smilie
Moria, Belegost, and ... what's the last one?
You have two out of three Uruk_slayer. The third was located about 160 miles to the northeast via crow or eagle, if you will, of Belegost in the Blue Mountains (Ered Luin).

I'll hold off giving the answer for another day
Could have been Nogrod and was. So you to get to share the Pseudo-Silmaril; however, Perwing only gets custody of it every third day, while Uruk_slayer gets it the other two. And no argueing over this arramgement or ownership will revert back to P-T. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

What was Gollum's last wail as he fell into the abyss Question Smilie
"Precioussss!"
Awwwww, that's nice. Except, I guess it was a scream that meant 'If it wasn't for the honour of the occasion, I'd rather 1) walk', 2) be in Mirkwood', or 3) have a sharp stick in the eye'.

Anyway, Sammy gets the pretty bauble this time.

Which Vala seldom clothed him/herself in a body Question Smilie
I will guess at Ulmo.
You got it right Peredhil and a Pseudo-Silmaril to boot! Happy Elf Smilie

Who said, "This shall be my kingdom; and I name it unto myself!" Question Smilie

Was it Turgon?
hehehehe I know what you mean Perry! hehehe Big Smile Smilie
Nope, not Turgon. Happy Elf Smilie
Melkor??

[Edited on 4/5/2003 by Aul’]
There you have it folks, the right answer from A’le as confirmed by Perwing. A’le get the jewel this time. Happy Elf Smilie

Saruman exchanged his white garments for what Question Smilie
Yes Perwing that is true that I edited it to one choice after I read that on your post....but I still had him as second choice! But if this is not allowed then I appologize to Grondy and to the one who does deserve the jewel....

But I aint going home empty handed!! So Grondy Saruman exchanged his white robe to a cloak of many colours....it shimmered with all the colours of the rainbow when he moved.....Hence the name Saruman of many colours.....but I guess Ring got there to me huh?
"thangail(...), a shield-wall of two serried ranks that could be bent back at either end if outflanked, until at need it became a closed ring."
Correct Amari’, a Pseudo-Silmaril to you. That was the initial formation the Dunedain under Isuldur's command, used against the Orcs at the Disaster at Galaden Fields as written in UT. But the Orcs were too smart and too many. Oops, there goes the ring! Oh well, Gollum and friend will be along one of these centuries to retrieve it from the river bottom.

Who was hung by his right wrist from the face of Thangorodrim Question Smilie
The oldest son of F’anor, Maedhros!
Aul’ has the right answer for a Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Who were the only surviving Ring-bearers not to sail West with GandalfQuestion Smilie
Well the Encyclopedia of Arda counts Tom along, because he actually put it on his finger, rather than just touching it. But I wouldn't count him along, because the Ring had no effect on him whatsoever, and because he didn't have it for a long enough period. But it all depends on what criteria you choose of course.

Just for clarification: Ring-Bearers do point to bearers of the One Ring, right? Or do the other Rings count as well? (does it make a difference? Orc Going Huh Smilie Goodbye memory! Animated Wink Smilie )
Well I believe that Perwing is right....Sam was the one that didn’t come along with Gandalf and co....but he left later in the Fourth Age....

In this case the bearers of the three Elven rings also count. Sam wore the One Ring long enough to be classified as a bearer. For the other half of the answer, who was it that remained in Middle-earth at that time, that also had been a bearer of one of the Elven rings?
I believe that would have to be Cirdan, the man with the plan!
Elf Smilie
Perwing and Elfstone get to share the Pseudo-Silmaril for their snswers of Sam and Cirdan. Happy Elf Smilie

Who left a whip-weal in Frodo's sideQuestion Smilie
Orc Going Huh Smilie Orc Going Huh Smilie I have no idea, Grondy. I don't even have a clue, I'm afraid.
