Your timing is okay by me Mellie, and your answer included "these folk are hewers of the trees and hunters of beast" which is what I was looking for; so another Pseudo-Silmaril to you.

Why did Beorn warn Thorin's Company against drinking from the stream in Mirkwood Question Smilie
Oh man. This one is hard, I don't even remember that pharse in the books. I am assuming it is in the Hobbit somewhere. I at least had an idea about the last question, I just could not remember how to spell Orome's name. This one I have no clue even where to look. Good luck people.
That would be something to do with the river being enchanted. Anyone drinking from it, or bathing in it, would fall into a deep trance in which they would dream of Elven feasts in Mirkwood.
Indeed Orom’ is the answer for which I was looking; therefore Val gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

What couldn't Bilbo do 'any more than fly like a bat' Question Smilie
Right Valedhelgwath, that's why they had to carry heavy old Bombur for so many days, and why he was extra hungry when later he awoke. You get a Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Which Vala rarely came to the councils of the Valar Question Smilie
Well Grondy, I usually wait 24 hours to answer your questions, but since I don't know when I am coming home, I am going to take a chance now.

Ulmo is right Mellie. For you a Pseudo-Silmaril. Have a safe trip and hury back. Happy Elf Smilie

After he returned to Bag End, what did Bilbo chiefly use the Ring for Question Smilie
To disappear when he wanted to? I mean, to avoid meeting people he didn't wanna meet? Like the incident with the Sackville-Bagginses which Merry saw? Cool Smilie
Tommie's got it again and also a bright shiny new Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

How many Valar were there Question Smilie
That depends whether you count Melkor. There were fifteen with him, fourteen without him.
That's the way I read it too Valedhelgwath, because Melkor was originally a Valor, possibly the greatest Valor, but he was jealous of Manwe and wanted to create life like Iluvatar, and because his actions were sinful and corrupting, he was separated from the rest of the Valar and became Morgoth a corrupted Valor. You get the bauble this time. Happy Elf Smilie

What kind of beings were Finglas and Fladrif Question Smilie (Hint: It begins with an "E".)
Elephants? Wink Smilie
Lets try Ents. Lol your elephant answer was cute Val.
Elelphants! Good one Val. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie However, Mellie has the right answer. Happy Elf Smilie

(After reading The Silmarillion the first time, I used to think all the F-names belonged to the Elves.) Elf Rolling Eyes Smilie

What township lay on the other side of Bag End from Hobbiton Question Smilie
Nope, you are getting colder. Happy Elf Smilie
Yup, that's the answer. Have a Pseudo-Silmaril too Tommie. Happy Elf Smilie

When the Elves awoke, Melkor sought to make them fearful of which particular Vala Question Smilie
Mellie: Now you may earn another Pseudo-Silmaril. Elf Winking Smilie
Thanks Grondy. We shall see if I get this one correct.

Namo is the personal name of mandos. Mandos is where Namo lived, and he was the keeper of the Houses of the Dead. (also called Halls of Mandos, or Halls of Awaiting) Namo was the judge, which is what his name means.
You erned it Mellie. Happy Elf Smilie

Who said, 'I have it! Of course, of course! Absurbly simple, like most riddles when you see the answer.' Question Smilie
I'm going to have a go and say, Orome. He disguised himself as a black rider knowing Orome travelled ME on Nahar. It worked to an extent too, because many of the elves fled from Orome when he first discovered them.
Going for it again: Gandalf at the gate of Moria. Cos if I remember correctly it was him who solved the riddle to open the doors, and not Frodo (film).
I'd say you were right there Tommy, though personally I like to give the credit to Merry rather than Gandalf. Have a cuddly badger (pending Grondy telling us officially, cos I ain't looking it up)
The Towers of the Teeth, Narchost and Carchost, were built on each side of Cirith Gorgor which lay between the Ered Lithui and the Ephel Duath. Between them was the great gate of the Morannon.
Val got another one right and a Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Tommie how do you keep your Pseudo-Silmarils from sublimating? Everybody else's vaporize upon being awarded. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

When Frodo was wounded by the Nazgul Lord, what did Aragorn go to fetch Question Smilie (In the movie he sent Sam to gather it.)
Atalas/ Athalas (or something like that). Kings-weed. A healing herb which also smelled nice.

[Redigert den 1/12/2002 av Amari’]
Eck! Late again! Athalas it was.

Tommie how do you keep your Pseudo-Silmarils from sublimating? Everybody else's vaporize upon being awarded.

Psst! Grondy! Don't tell anyone but... *whispers in Grondy's ear*. Very Big Grin Smilie
Right you are Amari’, you are the recipient of a shiny new Pseudo-Silmaril directly out of the mold. Happy Elf Smilie

Psst! Grondy! Don't tell anyone but... *whispers in Grondy's ear*. Very Big Grin Smilie
Oh, in that case we had better form a committee to study that method and with a subcommittee to test it and then report back to the committee as a whole, and if we can obtain any government funding for this we should expect a final report in, oh say in about twenty years. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

What mansion did the Dwarves build for King Thingol Question Smilie
Hurray!! i won one!
*Quickly and miraculusly gathers what's left of the Pseudo-Silmaril in an airtight bag, puts it in the freezer and hopes scientists may be able to bring it back to life in the future*
No one seems to have had a crack at this one for a day or so, so I'll try to fit another pseudo-silmaril into my empty jar that contained all my others, and try to keep it air tight this time.

Menegroth, the Thousand caves, was the underground realm that the Dwarves of Belegost built for Thingol.
Have you tried adding a double air-lock and a cryogenic chamber to your collection jar?
Nothing quite that complex for this old elf, I'm afraid. I use a battered old biscuit tin and a pair of crusty old socks.
So that they could escape the spiders in "Flies and Spiders"

"I am going to disappear," he said. "I shall draw the spiders off, Iff I can; and you must keep together and make in the oppposite direction. To the left there, that is mor or less the way towards the place where we last saw the elf-fires."
Mellie again gets the Pseudo-Silmaril for her correct answer. Happy Elf Smilie

What was an ’ored Question Smilie
Naah. This one's too easy. Smoke Smilie

Oh, in that case we had better form a committee to study that method and with a subcommittee to test it and then report back to the committee as a whole, and if we can obtain any government funding for this we should expect a final report in, oh say in about twenty years.

Very Big Grin Smilie *chuckles*
Naah. This one's too easy. Smoke Smilie
No Tommie, an "’ored" isn't a post that has been moderated by your avatar. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
A Rohirrim military unit consisting of 104 riders.
A Rohirrim military unit consisting of 104 riders.
Or 120 riders if sixteen of them are not dead.
Oh yeah! Ignore Smilie
I am going to award the Pseudo-Silmaril to Prog as he knew what it was. Happy Elf Smilie ’omer said he started the Orc battle with 120 riders, but I don't know if that is the full complement of a standard Rohirrim ’ored, some may have been on annual leave, sick in the horspital, in the dog house, or just plain malingering. Still. I think I will bow to Val's expertise as he may be able to cite chapter and verse from one of the volumes of HOME where it gives the definitive number. Read Smilie

What was Overlithe Question Smilie
ohooohoooh, i know this one, and i don't even have to look it up, but it has only been 16 minutes since you asked it. Hurry up 24 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm, what's with this 24 hour thing?

Anyway, I know the answer as well but seeing as I just answered one at least semi-correctly and Mellie's obvious excitement Wink Smilie I'll wait and let her answer.
Prog, the 24 hour thing is something that Grondy asked me to do when I first became a memeber of PT, because I had been answering so many of his trivia questions within minutes of his asking. It did not give anyone else a chance to answer any, and especially not any of the good people in Europe of Australia or New Zealand. So I have been trying to be patient. It still has not been enough time for me to do and I do want to give others a chance to answer the questions too. If no one does, I get a chance. lol.

Prog, also check your Private postBodys, I had more added to this, but it is not neccessary for everyone one else to read.
Is is September in Shire Reckoning?
No Samwisegamgee it isn't; however, you might be in the right Appendix. Elf Winking Smilie
Overlithe is the leap day that happens after Midyears Day and comes every 4 years in the Shire Reckoning.
Glorfindel has the right answer so he get a Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

How many dogs did Frodo and his companions encounter at Farmer Maggot's farm and what were their names Question Smilie
Three: Grip, Fang and Wolf.
Right you are Samwisegamgee; here is your Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

In Farmer Giles of Ham, what new order of knighthood was created under King ’gidius Question Smilie
The Wormwardens, and a dragon was their ensign.
Way to go Mellie, this Pseudo-Silmarils for you. Wiggle Smilie

Describe Gollum's physical appearance.

I will be judging based on the book version for I must wait another ten days before I can view TTT in person and the previews moved to fast for these tired old eyes. Any of you lucky people who get to view the movie today can also get extra credit if you can spot any differences between Tolkien's original version and that of Peter Jackson. You know like number of toes, fingers, heads, and/or navels, color of eyebrows, mother's maiden name, etc. Elk Grinning Smilie

[Edited on 18/12/2002 by Grondmaster]
Okay, the last one was more of an essay question rather than a trivia one anyway, so here is another to chew upon. You can still answer the old one.

What fatal mistake did F’anor make after the Second Battle Question Smilie
