Correct Aul’, another shiney, shiney to you. (How about giving the others a full day to answer this next one, before you take a crack at it? Please.)
Who said, 'If I was after the Ring, I could have it ’ NOW!'
Who said, 'If I was after the Ring, I could have it ’ NOW!'
okey Grondy I am sorry....I will not do it again.... I will wait 24h.....I just like these quizzes alot...
Perwing has the answer this time and the Pseudo-Silmaril as well.
No problem, the 24 hour waiting period is just to give others a chance at it without my having to post a new one every couple of hours.
In Ta 2063, where was Gandalf sent, and what was he unable to discover

That's it Perwing. In 2063 TA, Gandalf went to Dol Guldor to investigate who was its Lord, but Sauron who it actually was snuck out and hid in the East, so Gandalf was thwarted for the time being.
He returned in 2850 TA and found out it was indeed Sauron and received the key to the secret door into the Lonely Mountain from Thrain, Thorin's daddy.
Oh, yes, and Perwing gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
Where did Irmo and Est’ live, and why did the Valar often come there

Lor’en.....it was a place where sorrow and guilt was lifted and you were in a dreamlike state......Irmo is also known as Lor’en and he is the twinbrother of Mandos......
Correct Aul’, so you get the Pseudo-Silmaril.

Some hobbit from Bree named Underhill.....can’t remember his first name!
Close, but no cigar! Aul’.
(In case anyone doesn't know, this saying comes from carnival games of chance where you try to hit a target to win the prize of a cigar, stuffed animal, etc.--normally spending more money buying chances than the prize is actually worth.)

Yes, that's the answer for which I was looking. Perwing gets the pretty-pretty.

The cuff links? They fastend and opened when they were told to.
Did I get another shiny stone? I'm making a necklace!
Did I get another shiny stone? I'm making a necklace!
Yes you do Amari’, for the cuff links were indeed the gift.
(Didn't they have buttons back then. Still I often wore cuff links on my white work shirts, with which I always wore a tie, so maybe the Old Took wore them on his dress shirts on formal occasions. When was the button invented?)
Whose voice was Treebeard's way of speaking based on
(I can't verify my answer to this, so if you can, with chapter and verse or letter number, then you will get extra credit.)l

What do you mean Grondy??? Do you mean who played Treebeard’s voice in TT? IF so then it was John-Rhyse Davis or whatever his name is....the one who played Gimli!
No, I mean after whose manner of speaking did Tolkien pattern Treebeard's, like maybe Winston Churchill, George Bernard Shaw, King George IV, Samuel Longhorn Clemens, Bertram Russell, Will Rogers, Elmo Sandburg, etc.
oh okey....I have no freaking idea then!
It may take someone like Mellie or Rednell who have read a lot of Tolkien's letters and biographies to get this one. I'll leave it unanswered until tomorrow.
(I also wouldn't have known the answer had I not peeked.)
(I also wouldn't have known the answer had I not peeked.)
Ok, I found it.

Mellie found the answer and a reference to it so she gets the Pseudo-Silmaril this time and our special thanks for the extra digging to come up with the reference.
What colours did Legolas usually wear

Ringfacwen gets half a Pseudo-Silmaril for the "green".
Anybody want to guess the other color or colour for the other half?
Anybody want to guess the other color or colour for the other half?
Perwing has got the other half of the answer and rather than ruin a Pseudo-Silmaril by cutting one in half, I'll award one each to Ringfacwen and Perwing for their answers of green and brown.

Well I wanted to take a swing at this one yesterday, but since the question had only been posted about 2 hours before I saw it, I decided to wait. Well I’ve waited long enough, and since I’m having a crummy day, and could really use a shiny Silmaril to lift my spirits here goes, Beren gave Saruman the key to Orthanc!
[Edited on 31/3/2003 by Elfstone]
[Edited on 31/3/2003 by Elfstone]
Correct Elfstone. It was Beren, the ruling Steward of Gondor, but not Luthien's Beren, for that happened at an earlier time. So Elfstone gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.

Thanks for pointing that out Grondy, I should have been more specific, sorry about that! Beren was the 19th Steward of Gondor, and he gave Saruman the keys to Orthanc in the T.A. 2759.
Ok, I know this one, but can't find the reference for it. So if anyone else knows go ahead. If it is not answered tomorrow, i will take a stab at it.
Aragorn
Yup Aragorn was first Trotter but Tolkien changed the name to Strider....Sounds better with Strider...
Komosot? Isn’t that the sindarin or quenyan from of Gothmog meaning 'Son of Morgoth'??? I read something about that in "The Complete Tolkien Companion"

How did Beren come by the name Erchamion
Erchamion= one hand(I think) and he came by this name by the dog of Morgoth who bit of his hand holding the silmarill.....he then came to Thingol and said I have your silmarill in my hand and reveals that it got bitten of!
Or something like that!
Or something like that!
Right Aul’, Carcharoth bit off the right hand of Beren, which contained the Silmaril. Erchamion means "One-handed", so the Pseudo-Silmaril is yours.

You are entirely correct Aul’, as was Samwisegamgee's answer. Were anyone to give me the title in their native language, I'd be at a loss to know if they were correct or not. So in the future I won't ask for such things, or will give some slack if the anwers are your interpetations into English of your foreign language editions of the books. I usually try to also provide the chapter titles in English as well as their numbers. You know Grond it is not fair t say so! Samwisegamgee wins the the Pseudo-Silmaril.
Peredhil gets an "Atta boy" for the title. (It takes 1000 "Atta boys" to overcome 1 "Ah ****" or the more polite "Ah shucks".)
