You might have read it wrong, Grondy, or I might have put it wrongly. Tongue Smilie

Lemme see. Criticism... Never read the book... Might it be that the book is too short? Guessing wildly now. Smoke Smilie
The astonishing thing is that all the characters are boys masquerading as adult heroes. The hobbits, or haflings are ordinary boys; the fully human heroes have reached the fith form; but hardly one of them knows anything about women except by hearsay.

I hope this is right. I found the quote by doing a google search. It took me to "The Shy Librarian. @ . But it is a rather messed up site. kinda hard to read.
Tommy gets a cuddly Badger, cos it sounds right enough to me.
That's the answer I was looking for Mellie; you get the Pseudo-Silmaril this time.

The Ford of Rivendell crossed which river Question Smilie
Am I the only one that checks this thread? I know I waited more than 24 hours. lol. More like 48.

Ok, I believe the answer is River Loudwater of Bruinen. Although I am not 100% sure, because the map I am looking at is awfully small. But I did not think the question was that difficult. Have I scared everyone off, by answering soo many? I hope not.
Right you are Rednell. A Pseudo-Silmaril to you.

What pass was guarded by the Tower of Teeth Question Smilie
Right Mellie, a Pseudo-Silmaril for you.

Name the item that fits the following description:
It was a carcanet of gold, and set therein were gems uncounted from Valinor; but it had a power within it so that it rested lightly on its wearer as a strand if flax, and whatsoever neck it clasped it sat always with grace and loveliness.
Question Smilie
Off Bilbo had to go, before he could explain that he could not hoot even once like any kind of owl any more than fly like a bat.

The answer being: hoot like any kind of owl. Big Smile Smilie
Sounds to me like the Nauglamir which the Dwarves of Nagrod made for Finrod and was later set with a Silmaril.
Yup that's the pretty, pretty; so Val gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Why did Bilbo leave Milo Burrows a gold pen and ink-bottle Question Smilie
Cos he never answered his letters.

Thanks for the cuddly badger, Plastic! Goes with my collection! Smoke Smilie
Bilbo gave Milo the golden pen and ink bottle because, Milo never answered letters.
Mellie: You have the right answer, but seeing as how Tommie got there first, she wins the Pseudo-Silmaril. Wink Smilie

Who played the golden harp in Bolbo's house Question Smilie

I think you already asked this one, Grondy. I was going to answer it again for an easy peusdo-silmaril, but I have decided to let someone else have the honour.
And if someone wants to dig through this trivia post to find the answer, well, more power to you. Big Laugh Smilie
Thanks, Rednell. Mellie is working up a list of those I've answered before because I hadn't kept one. It is nigh on a miricle that I haven't repeated many before. Elf Winking Smilie Okay then here is a replacement (if it isn't another a repeat.)

The tracker Orc told the soldier Orc to:
'Go to your filthy Shriekers, and may they freeze the flesh off you!'
Who were these "Shrieckers" Question Smilie
Ok, Grondy, I have sent you the first 8 pages of Trivia questions. Have you gotten them? I will work on more later. I am working on about 4 pages at a time.
Yes I found them, Thanks Millie. Smile Smilie
At first I thought he was refering to the Watchers but the bit about freezing the flesh off him made me think it was more inclined to be the Nazgul.

The Land of shadow
"I'll give your name and number to the Nazgul," said the soldier..............
"Go to your filthy Shriekers, and may they freeze the flesh off you......"
Right you are Val, a Pseudo-Silmaril to you. Orc With Thumbs Up Smilie

Chuenya was (a) one of the Two Trees of Valinor, (b) a Quenya season, (c) a flower in Lothl’rien, (d) a region of Gondor, (e) the Quenya name of Rivendell Question Smilie
One wild guess: c) a flower in Lothlorien? I have actually no idea...
Ok, Grondy, I have sent you some more questions. I think I am about 1/2 finished.
You've even stumped me this time, Grondy. I cannot even work it out from its derivatives. I don't think its one of the six Quenya seasons, a region of Gondor, or the Quenya name of Rivendell. The closest I can come is the word Enyd, which means Ent. It might have something to do with the ents therefore, and perhaps trees.

A flower in Lothlorien or another name for one of the two trees? I'm following Tommy's cue and going with the flower. (except by now you'd have said that's right to Tommy)

I'm going for one of the two trees.
Sorry, Grondy feels he must apologize here. Elf Confused Smilie

Normally I double check the answers to the questions I use here: This time I cut a corner and got caught. My source book says:
Chuenya was a: (b) a Quenya season.
However, I just now also came up short trying to find the word in ROTK Appendix D where it should have been, nor could I find it even in the Encyclopedia of Arda

Therefore, all I can say is, "That's once!" You can shoot me the next time it happens--if you want to be stuck posting your own questions. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

So let us try another one:

What place did Pippin want to visit in Stock, and what was his reason Question Smilie

(I checked this one, in fact I reworded it to make it harder.)

[Edited on 4/11/2002 by Grondmaster]
Mellie: I got your third list, thanks. Happy Elf Smilie
I am glad that I was not the only one that could not find the answer to the Chuenya question. I went through every book I owned of Tolkien's. Not there. I spent almost 5 hours looking for it. AAAAAAAAARrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Cos he wanted to go to the Golden Perch as it had the best beer in the Eastfarthing!
Right Cirdan, for your answer you receive a Pseudo-Silmaril.

Who asked Gandalf to lay aside his staff Question Smilie
Saruman? Galadriel? Aragorn? Not sure Shocked Elf Smilie um, ok, going with Saruman!
Well Grondy, I only have 5 more pages to go and I will be caught up with you.17-21. I will probably get them done tomorrow. I hope this is helping. If I had your book, I could just tell you which to check off.
oooh oooh I remember! It was the guard at Theodens gate in Edoras. Hama!
I have a trivia question... how do I STOP getting email notifications of new replies to this topic (I don't know if you know... but this is a VERY active topic!)
I finished your list of questions Grondy!!!!
Swampfaye, at some stage you must have posted a reply in this thread and at the bottom of your post you must have ticked the box, "Receive email notification of new replies."

To cancel any further replies you must find that post, click on the "edit" icon and then untick the notification box. If you have more than one post with the box ticked, you must repeat this procedure with each of them.

By the way, Grondy. I'm pleased you couldn't find the answer to your Chuenya question either. I was getting a little worried about that one.
Now that I have read the Sil, and there comes a question about it, and dang it! I'm too late... Very Sad Smilie I knew it was Orom’... Animated Wink Smilie

Thanks for the Silmaril, Grond! And for the Badger, Plastic! Have quite a collection of them already... Big Laugh Smilie
Merry's name in Hobbitish would have been Kalimac, which translated into Westron as "jolly"
Val has got this one right. The answer can be found about half way through Section II entitled 'On Translation' of Appendix F ROTK.

Who sang:
The dragon is withered,
His bones are now crumbled;
His armour is shivered,
His splendour is humbled!
Question Smilie
24 hour hasn't happened yet? has it? Beware i am waiting Winking Smilie Ha Ha Ha Smilie
Aw! come on gang, this one is easy; I know you all have read it (except those who skiped over the poetry trying to get on with Tolkien's story). Elf Sticking Tounge Out Smilie

Oh yeah, Val does get a Pseudo-Silmaril for his last answer, and I did reserch the answer to this current one. Happy Elf Smilie
It is from Chapter XIX The Last Stage of the Hobbit.

Bilbo and Gandalf have returned to Rivendale.
As they rode down the steep path, Bilbo heard the elves still singing in the trees, as if they had not stopped since he left; and as soon as the riders came down into the lower glades of the wood they burst into song of much the same kind as before. This is something like it:

The dragon is withered,
His bones are now crumbled;
His armour is shivered,
His splendour is humbled!
Though sword shall be rusted,
And throne and crown perish
With strenth that men trusted
And wealth that they cherish,
Here grass is still growing,
And leaves are yet swinging,
The white water flowing,
And elves are yet singing
Come! Tra-la-la-lally!
Come back to the valley.

The stars are far brighter
Than gems without measure,
The moon is far whiter
Than silver in treasure:
The fire is more shining
On hearth in the gloaming
Than gold won by mining,
So why go a-romaing?
O! Tra-la-la-lally
Come back to the valley.

O! Where are you going,
So late in returning?
The river is flowing,
The stars are all burning!
O! Whither so laden,
So sad and so dreary?
Here elf and elf-madien
Now welcome the weary
With Tra-la-la-lally
Come back to the valley,
Mellie has found the poem and gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

Where did Sam see a vision of Frodo lying asleep under a great dark cliff Question Smilie
Are you asking where Sam was when he had the vision or where Frodo was in the vision?
Are you asking where Sam was when he had the vision or where Frodo was in the vision?
Where Sam was, we now know Frodo was taking his venom induced nap near the Tower of Cirith Ungol.
Thanks Grondy
The mirror of Galadriel? Location would be somewhere in Lothlorien? Don't have my copy here so I'm searching my memory. What's left of it, anyway... Tongue Smilie
Overhill? Yup that's the place Mellie. Chalk up another bauble for yourself.

Where did Nam’ live, and what was his role Question Smilie
Yes Tommie, right on both counts, so you get the Pseudo-Silmaril. No class on Armistice Day, then? Happy Elf Smilie

Why did the Green-elves of Ossiriand object to the presence of Men in their land Question Smilie
Ummmm wouldn't that be Overhill?
No class indeed. Yesterday off and today as well. Long weekend, and enjoying it. Animated Wink Smilie
I hope I waited long enough Grondy.

Now the Green-elves of Ossiriand were troubled by the coming of Men, and when they heard that a lord of the Eldar from over the Sea was among them they sent messengers to Felagund. 'Lord,' they said, 'if you have power over these newcomers, bid them return by the ways that they came, or else to go forward. For we desire no strangers in this land to break the peace in which we live. And these folk are hewers of the trees and hunters of beast; therefore we are their un-friends, and if they will not depart we shall afflict them in all ways that we can.'
