How many Ages was Melkor imprisoned in Valinor
How many Ages was Melkor imprisoned in Valinor
Three ages. This was during the time of the Two Trees, and (according to HOME) each Valian Age was 100 Valian Years, or equivalent to 1000 years of the Sun.
hmmmm. ... wasn'it seven ages ?
Meneldur has it and the pretty bauble For it says in 'Of Feanor and the Unchaining of Melkor' in The Silmarillion,
Who was first King of the D’nedain
Quote:
For it came to pass that Melkor, as the Valar had decreed, completed the terms of his bondage, dwelling for three ages in the duress of Mandos, alone. Wherein he peeled potatoes, sliced onions, darned socks, and was Permanent Latrine Orderly.
Well maybe not that last bit, but if he had, he might have used his later freedom a little more productively. For it came to pass that Melkor, as the Valar had decreed, completed the terms of his bondage, dwelling for three ages in the duress of Mandos, alone. You mean he could have become a good nanny ?he might have used his later freedom a little more productively.
Would that be King Arvedui of Arthedain, or his son who counts as the first cheiftain of the Dunedain Aranarth?
Yes, as a nanny Morgoth would have been a credit to society.
No, they were Johnny-come-latelys.
No, they were Johnny-come-latelys.
elros because the numenoreans were also called the dunedain
Correct Golden_red, you get the Pseudo-Silmaril. And I think it has been a while since I last saw you posting so welcome back. If you have been here all along, just chalk it up to my elderly brain.
What gift did Boromir receive from Lady Galadriel

A golden belt and an Elven-cloak
You got it Gildor Inglorion, and also the pretty bauble. The golden belt is what I was after.
What colors were Treebeard's eyes
What colors were Treebeard's eyes
They were deep brown like a hazelnut? Or darker?
You got half of it Loss. Now what has the highlight color?
I believe it was green highlights? And I remember his eyes were described as very deep and penetrating.
The by the book answer is brown shot with green light. So, Loss and Meneldur get to share the Pseudo-Silmaril.
At what battle did Eorl and his riders come to aid the army of Gondor against Balchoth and Orcs
At what battle did Eorl and his riders come to aid the army of Gondor against Balchoth and Orcs
Alriiiiiight!!! High-Five for my brother Loss!!! See? It's easy to share a Silmaril without causing the destruction of Beleriand. The sons of F’anor could take a lesson from us modern Elves.
Haha, *high fives* We are an example to many... we can just wait and see now which brother will get more jealous and make a devious plot to keep it for himself... *glares at Meneldur, then shakes head and smiles*
Well it's been a couple of days, so I might as well claim the Silmaril as my VERY OWN PRECIOUSSSSSSSSS. (Oops, wrong treasure LOL)
Grondy: the answer is the Battle of the Field of Celebrant, after which Gondor gave Eorl the land of Calenardhon which then became Rohan. If I remember right, wasn't this also the battle where a white mist came out of Lothlorien to shield the Eorlingas from view as they rode south?

Yes, and the white mist was sent by the Lady of the Golden Wood to drive back the gloom of Dol Guldur which they had to ride past, as well as to provide them secrecy as they rode south. You can find this bit in the section of Unfinished Tales entitled 'Cirion and Eorl'. So Meneldur gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
Who were the only two surviving Ring-bearers not to sail West with Gandalf
Who were the only two surviving Ring-bearers not to sail West with Gandalf
Sam was one, was Elrond the other?
Sam and the Nazgul or ummm...Gollum and I got it, no I don't bu I'm just going to say Frodo or Bilbo as well as Sam.
Cirdan and Sam
(Cirdan was a great shipwright and mariner of the Elves. He had the strongest foresight of all the Elves in Middle-earth, and he gave Narya - his Ring of Power - to Gandalf, for he perceived that the Wizard would need it. As Lord of the Grey Havens, Cirdan oversaw the departure of the Elves across the Sea to the Undying Lands, and it is said that he remained in Middle-earth until the Last Ship set sail. )

Which respective Maiar guided the Sun and Moon
The incorrect answers to the previous question reminded me of this one:
If a plane crashed on the border between France and Germany, where would they bury the survivors

What phrase did Bilbo use for a lot of things
What phrase did Bilbo use for a lot of things
Hmmmm let's see, did it involve a lot of inaudible grumbling, ending with "Stupid filthy Sackville-Bagginses!" ???
No, old Mister Bilbo was a Gentleman who kept such comments in his head.
" Good Morning "he said this to Gandalf and often to his new dwarf friends I believe
I'm going to go for "At your service", I flicked through the book and saw that he said that quite a few times...
"Confusticate and bebother" is one that makes me smile
All your guesses were good, but Mellon's 'Good Morning' was the correct one, which as Gandalf told Bilbo, "What a lot of things you do use Good morning for!' So Mellon gets the pretty bauble.
I also love Gandalf's later statement, "To think that I should have lived to be good-morninged by Belladonna Took's son, as if I was selling buttons at the door!" ’ That really tickled my funny bone.
What number was Boromir and Faramir's father in the line of the Stewards of Gondor

It is a long while since i read the book again.
It is a long while since i read the book again.
Close but not quite there; if it was done using the English alphabet, he would be the letter "Zed".
26th? This doesn't show that I know what the order of Stewards are, it shows I know my ABC's
Too True Loss, but you still get the Pseudo-Silmaril. I didn't know it either and had to hunt to find it.
What river marked the eastern boundary of the Shire
What river marked the eastern boundary of the Shire
The Brandywine?
Yes, I think Celebrian's post shows the right answer, the Baraduin( Brandywine that flows from lake Evendim to the Sundering Sea.Many lesser streams join its course including the Shirebourne and the Withywindle. The Shire's northern border is The northen Moors( The Hills of Evendim), The western is The Far Downs, situayed west of the white downs, where Micheal Delving is in and the southern border of the Shire is uncertain, probably somewhere near Sarn Ford.Actually, it's inthe Southern Marshes Areawas the southern boundry. I get it.
Yes Celebrian has the correct answer and the pretty bauble.
Where did Bilbo discover 'Sting'
Where did Bilbo discover 'Sting'
Bilbo found Sting in the treasure hoard, after the trolls (Tom, Bert, and William) were turned to stone. Good thing he got his hands on the key ahead of time! From the same treasure, Gandalf claimed the sword Glamdring (aka "Beater") and Thorin Oakenshield claimed the sword Orcrist (aka "Biter"). Elrond identified the swords when the travelers got to Rivendell a short while later. Glamdring (supposedly) was the sword of Turgon, King of Gondolin. Even after all these years, I'm still trying to figure out how swords from Gondolin ended up in a troll's hoard in the middle of Eriador....
Those trolls bought them off e-bay when the plunderers' mothers. cleaned out their attics. Sting was just a lowly unnamed dagger though it had probably been fashioned in Westerness, because it glowed with blue light in the facinity of orcs. Bilbo gave 'Sting' its name after he stung and killed a giant spider with it in Mirkwood.
