Yes, I know this is a hard one.
No, I didn't disable our Book Covers in our Art Gallery menu over there on your the left. That happened before I posted the above question. Besides, I don't think Taz has this one in his collection. I think this was the one I read in 1967 and gave to my little brother. I also think it was done by the same artist and in the same style as the covers on the editions of the trilogy that Ballantine also issued at that time. Of course I may be wrong as it has been many years since I have seen those covers, but the artwork from the that trilogy graces Donald Swann's music book, The Road Goes Ever On, which I still have.

Okay, the answer is: "A lion, two emus, and a tree bearing bulbous fruit." What that had to do with the story I know not, but I remember now that the cover was similar to those of the trilogy which showed: Hobbit, the bulbous fruited tree, two emus and black birds on FotR; a mountain, tower, spider, river, and ariel black riders on TTT; and a volcano, war banners, mountains, and monsters on RotK.
So a new question then:
Who was the greatest of all Dwarven smiths
So a new question then:
Who was the greatest of all Dwarven smiths
Im going to guess Telchar but i could be wrong. I still think Telchar is the greatest though
BTW, not sure if this is allowed, but i'd like to change my answer to Gamil Zirak
Gamil Zirak was Telchar's master and perhaps mentor, and was also well renowned, so im just covering up the holes
Hmm, now that you mention it, Telchar did make angrist, narsil, and the dragon-helm. Ok....i'd like to change my answer back to Telchar, lol.
How do you guys know these things?
I've read the sil a few times UT, LOTR a few times and the hobbit a few times, but i can never think off the answer i keep forgetting stuff
I've read the sil a few times UT, LOTR a few times and the hobbit a few times, but i can never think off the answer i keep forgetting stuff
Telchar is the answer for which I was looking. So Komosot gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
In what battle did Glaurung lead the Orcs to victory over the Noldor, beaking the Siege of Angband

I can only think of Glaurung. I'm guessing it's not Gothmog or Sauron.
Glaurung it was, so Uruk_Slayer gets the pretty bauble

Correct Perwing, have a Pseudo-Silmaril.

Still, Perwing gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.

Still, Perwing gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
What role did the sons of Ulfang play in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad?
Ulfang and his sons, Uldor, Ulfast, and Ulwarth, followed the banner of Caranthir. In the heat of the battle they turned on the Sons of Feanor and granting Morgoth his victory in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. They were deemed faithless.
Komosot gets the Pseudo-Silmarillion for his correct answer.

Komosot gets a Pseudo-Silmaril for his correct answer.
However Komosot, I will have to ask you to let the next question be up for 24 hours before you answer it so that other people who are asleep when I post the questions have a chance at them. Were I to post more than one question a day, I might run out of them or at least have to did deeper to come up with new ones.
Anyway, after anyone correctly answers a question, please let the next one remain unanswered for 24 hours before answering it. That way no one will be hogging the action.
Thanks
Who did Faramir imply were not 'wondrous fair to look upon'

because Faramir said that Elves were 'wondrous fair to look upon'
No mellie's answer is correct; however, she made her post while I was busy composing my post to Komosot; thus, I hadn't yet seen her answer when I finally made my post. The time lapse was due to my taking time out in the middle to raid the refrigerator for a Diet Dr. Pepper as I remember.
So Mellie gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
Who 'munched and mumbled a bare old bone'
So Mellie gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
Who 'munched and mumbled a bare old bone'
The troll in the song Sam sang after they had found Bilbos three trolls.
The troll that Tom Bombadill met....he was gnawing on one of Tom’s friends/relatives bones! was it right?
Both Aul’ and Amari’ were right; however Amari’ got there first. 'The Stone Troll' is poem number 7 in The Adventures of Tom Bombadil as well as the poem that Sam recites in The Fellowship of the Ring.
Why did Merry and Pippin have reason to thank Grishn’kh

Correct Aul’, so you get today's pretty bauble.
How did ’in die

Peredhil gets the Pseudo-Silmaril for the correct answer.
Name three members of the White Council other than Gandalf and Saruman
Name three members of the White Council other than Gandalf and Saruman
He died during Balin's failed attempt to retake Khazad Dum.
Or more precisely, he was gotted by the Watcher in the Water.
Quote:
...the pool is up to the wall at Westgate. The Watcher in the Water took ’in. We cannot get out. The end comes, and then drums in the deep. ... they are coming.
...the pool is up to the wall at Westgate. The Watcher in the Water took ’in. We cannot get out. The end comes, and then drums in the deep. ... they are coming.
So Peredhil had the general place and Val had the specific detail. (Val's word "gotted" sounds like one of my words, sort of like "cotched" for caught.) So I guess you can share the Pseudo-Silmaril.
Fill in the gap:
Quote:

And you get the Pseudo-Silmaril, Alu’. They are lines from the poem near the end of Chapter 3, Book I, of RotK entitled 'The Muster of Rohan' where the Rohirrim gather and start their ride towards Minas Tirith. That is the title of the chapter; I don't know if it also applies to the poem.

Another pretty bauble for Aul’.
What was the likely origin of Saruman's nickname 'Sharkey'

It was probably Orkish in origin: sharku, 'old man'.
Shark’= old man
The orcminions of Saruman gave him this nickname in respect and reverence!

Mellie beat you to it Aul’, so she gets the Pseudo-Silmaril.
